Zaurus 5500 Reset after battery runs down
« on: July 10, 2004, 04:02:21 am »
Hi,

I brought my Zaurus from ebay and it appear to work fine. However every time the battery runs down it totaly resets after a few hours. IE with the sharp ROMS you lose anything installed and have to go through the setup again and a similar thing happens with OZ but it basicly gets messed up.

I have left on on charge for a few days and it still does it. I assume this is not normal!

Anyone have an ideas on how to fix this?

Perhaps the backup battery is dying?

What memory split are you using with OZ? If you use 64-0 you'll only have to wait for it to reboot and you shouldn't get any problems with the battery going flat.

It does seem the backup battery is at fault after reading a bit more about it.

It seems to do a hard reset when the battery dies. So with the sharp roms the system is ok as it's all in the first 16MB? I lose all my setting for example if I have edited /etc/pcmcia/wirless* etc. Anything installed.

Is there anyway to replace the backup battry?

With the Sharp ROM you'll loose all of your settings as they are stored in a RAM disk. With OZ you may or may not loose your settings depending on what memory layout you are using. I use 64-0 which means I have no RAM-disk and my settings are stored in the flashROM.

I'm not sure about replacement, try a search for it, otherwise I suppose contacting Sharp directly might be the best way.
