Wireless options for Zaurus?
« on: July 21, 2004, 11:32:27 am »
I've got a Danger Hiptop, and it's got a wireless internet connection that I really like. I can use email/web from anywhere that I have cellular coverage, and it's a flat rate for unlimited usage.

I'm interested in replacing it with a Zaurus, though, mostly because I want to have a portable Java/Perl dev platform. But I don't want to give up my wireless. Does anything similar exist for the Zaurus? I've seen references to a "Pocket Spider" modem, but there's nothing on Sharp's page about it currently...

You might consider the Audiovox RTM8000 which is a GSM/GPRS compact flash card that works with the Zaurus. Search in this forum - there are several threads on how to install.

I am a former HipTop owner.

I think the best way to do this on the Zaurus is to get a Bluetooth phone and a bluetooth card for the Zaurus.

That way you get GPRS without killing your battery.

I loved the HipTop for its user experience, but the proprietary nature of it drove me crazy.

I do things on my Zaurus I could NEVER do on the HipTop, like stream video from my linux box.
