Hi!
Do
# chmod +x /sbin/pivot_root
;and it should work.
if not, let us know.
also, you should do
# gtar xzpvf /mnt/cf/pdax-SD.tar.gz
rather than
# tar xzpvf /mnt/cf/pdax-SD.tar.gz

btw: made a more detailed Howto on jakob-zabel.com ;o)

I am trying that now...will let you know.

Nice HOW TO....you should mirror it here or at least add a HOWTO entry here with just a link to your site.  Nicely done.

I will probably throw mine up there as well,  with alink to yours for more specific directions if you don't mind.

The
# gtar xzpvf /mnt/cf/pdax-SD.tar.gz

went well with no problems.

 But when I try:

# chmod +x /sbin/pivot_root

I get:

/sbin/pivot_root: Read-Only File System

In your How-to, you can simplify the creation of the ext2 SD. You don't need to fdisk and create a partition, simply umount the card and run mkfs.ext2. This has worked for me on multiple cards without problems.

The rest looks good with the inclusion of the gtar instead of tar command in extracting the gzip file.

Once you boot into pdaXrom, you may need to run ts_calibrate before startx (can't remember for sure been awhile since I did this)

Good luck,

ts_calibrate doesn't work with the cackoQT kernel.

Okay,

Well, by folowing Jabbath tutorial start to finish and a little experimentation, I got X running, but then I left to do something and came back and the Z  (C860) was off and won't start...nothing....Hard reset nothing.

I am letting sit woithout a battery for a while so it can think about the consequences of it's actions

(I think I have the dreaded "no battery charge" problem....looks like I get to expereince all the how-to's today !!  Lucky me    Luckily I have an external battery charger (with a hole in it  ) so I recharge it another way to see. )

Any other ideas?

ts_calibrate doesn't work with the cackoQT kernel.

jabbath
If you replace fbvnc with the one from X11-zaurus (it should be in the tarball I zipped up) then ts_calibrate works with the qt kernal.

At least it did for me on my C760 when I wrote those scripts.

Where do I get that and where do I put it now that I have everything installed.

Sorry, but I am a linux newbie.

Omicron:
Confused yet?
You don't have to worry about the fbvnc, it's already in the pdaX-SD.tar.gz file. If you were able to get to the log in and run startx you're good. The fbvnc is needed if you extract the pdaXrom yourself.

Hope you're able to revive your Z, if I remember correctly suspend doesn't work when booted to pdaXrom on SD, you have to reboot out of pdaXrom to Cacko to suspend. PITA, which led me to try X/Qt, which works pretty well. The next version of pdaXrom may make me leave Qtopia based ROM altogether which would make life simplier.

Did you leave your Z on battery power when you left it to do something else?

If so leaving your battery out for a while should resolve it, something similar happend to me and once I calmed down and let it alone without battery it booted again (and blood pressure returned to normal)

Good luck

Well, it's working again...I think baterry just died on me (whew).

Strange now is that the power button won't sspend anymore...it will brighten the screen if on DIM mode, but no suspend.  This is after several reboots to QT only.

Plus in PDAXROM my cursor is way off which is a bit annoying.

Things were much simpler before starting a dual boot process at 5am.

I think during my dual boot mistakes (of which i made many), I untarred PDAXRom over part of my QT rom, so I can't run alot of stuff anymore like Console r SYSInfo that generally run as root.

Looks like I will be reinstalling BOTH OSes sometime soon....at least I will get more linux practice.  I may seem to be taking this lightly, but since the glass is only half-full, it's no use trying to drown my C860 in it

Thanks to all for the assistance.

Jab,

I used a PDAXROM zip from another place, does the one pointed to by your site fix the calibration problem?, beucase it makes PDAXRom really hard to use.

I got PDAX working, but I would redo it all to fix the cursor problem if I could.

Anyone?

(for dual boot, I mean)

No, my version's screen calibration isn't working either.
There are kernel incompabilities between CackoQT and pdaXrom.
