Hold the stylus down on the link for a second until a menu pops up, then scroll down to your selection and tap it.

I have problems with this as well ... its irritating as hell.
The menu pops up and I want to select open in new window, which I can do, of course, but in the meantime the main window contents switch to the linked page.

Like I said, you have to scroll the menu and then "TAP" your choice.
It works for me every time.

Yes, and in my case, while the menu is displayed, and before I get the chance to "TAP", the window with the link I clicked changes to the link target. So once I do tap the menu option, I end up with two Opera "windows" showing the same page, and I have to hit the back button on the original window.
As I said, very annoying.

If it was open source, some smart person would probably fix that behavior.
