ok i'll copy these files to /share/fvwm but u tell me that i need to install a program to set the background? like what? do u have the name of it ?

thank's
There's the program called fvwm-root, I use this on desktop to set the bg image. I haven't tried on my Z. Hope it will work.
This is how I use it in my .fvwm2rc:
Code: [Select]
AddToFunc StartFunction
+ I Test (Init) Exec exec fvwm-root -r /home/zumi/.fvwm/images/grassy.png
+ I Test (Restart) Exec exec fvwm-root -r /home/zumi/.fvwm/images/grassy.png
As I said, you don't need to install Eterm if you don't use it. fvwm-root does the job. Works for me.

Great news that you're compiling Kapi!

Excuse my stupid question about America's Army, I missed the "#" on that line.  Maybe you can compile Doom 3 next

Looking forward to Kapi

Well, this window manager has a steep learning curve, start with http://www.fvwm.org/
for documentation and also, more helpful in my mind; download bastichelaar's config files, extract them and examine the .fvwmrc2 file for how he has his configured. I started by tweaking that file and am still playing.

Good luck & have fun,
Jerry

Any luck yet? I'm anxious to install on my new RC-3 installation

Update: zautrix just uploaded a new version of KDEPIM, so maybe it's just as well you didn't get this done just yet

Cheers,
Jerry

Hi,

My config:
- Zaurus 760
- Pdaxrom kathrin RC2

I use fvwm as window manager but I have a weird problem with Kopi. I can not type any character with the keyboard. Everything is ok if I use the pointer, but nothing with the keyboard.

I tried using Matchbox and Xfce4 and kopi works fine with the keyboard.

Maybe someone can explain this problem ?

Edit:
It works if I comment the "Style kopi..." line in .fvwm2rc.
I will check possibles values of "Style" to find what's wrong.

I am installing Perl on my Zaurus, but I also note that to run fvwm I need libexpat.so.1?  I have looked around for that library on http://killefiz.de/zaurus and elsewhere but don't know where to find it.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Actually, would someone mind explaining what steps are necessary to install the window maneger beyond perl and the packages on bastichelaar's site?  I've followed the posts, and beyond that just to get there window manager working there should be nothing else necessary.

I have edited the .xinitrc file, commented out the two lines pertaining to matchbox, and put in one line that is just "fvwm".  But no dice.

In the default RC-3 install the .xinitrc is a symlink that points to mbsession (/usr/bin I think - Z not with me so can't be sure) so you can either delete the symlink in your home directory and copy over bastichelaar's .xinitrc which is already had all lines commented out, or go to you mbsession file and comment out the lines, but there are way more than 2 that need to be commented out. Compare bastichelaar's .xinitrc & the virigin mbsession to see all lines that need to be commented out.

I recommend not editing the mbsession file, I simply rename .xinitrc to .xinitrcfvwm and recreate the symlink to mb session when I want to go back to the matchbox windo manager.

Hope that helps,

Jerry

Thanks for your comments.  I was able to do everything once I installed perl and did an additional thing, which I will describe here fot the benefit of people with the same problem.

Install all the libraries needed and the fvwm ipk from batischalaar's site.  Also install perl.  The ipk's from the Zaurus Software Index seem not to work-- one link is dead and the ipk for the other fails to install.  Rather install (if you do not have perl) from this site, which works: http://www.zaurusoft.com/packages/view/396

Finally, after that point, you may get the error that libexpat.so.1 is missing.  Go to your root / and from there do a find and grep for libexpat.  It shows up in some directory (I think /usr/lib).  Go there and in this directory link ln -s libexpat.so libexpat.so.1 (so that libexpat.so.1 is just linked to libexpat.so there).

Hope this helps.  I don't know why I had these issues and no one else seemed to have them.  I am not a linux expert, and totally new to pdaxrom, though.  But liking the new interface a lot!

Sriram:
Sounds like your problem was Perl, you might have had better luck if you had used the perl from pdaXrom.org/feed2.

Glad you got it working.

Jerry, thanks.  what is supposed to be the difference between feed2 and the normal ipk feed archive (which is nicely formatted, has descriptions, etc.)?

i have a few more questions ...
1) how can i get the useful tray applications like the battery and memory monitors, disk eject tools, etc displayed (and running) in fvwm as they were in matchbox?  are those little things particular to matchbox?
2) in X is there a general settings file perhaps where the size of the minimize and maximize window boxes in te upper right of an application can be adjusted?  would be nice to have larger ones, since the zaurus screen is small.
3) in any of the applications (matchbox or fvwm) are there ways of accessing menu items (file, edit, etc.) without using the touchscreen? (perhaps justing using a Fn key combination?)
4) what is the equivalent of the Ctrl key in pdaxrom?  i am trying to press Ctrl-X to send mail from pine, but it won't work.

thanks for any help on these...
