How to change default system font on SharpRom 3.1?
« on: August 16, 2004, 04:45:24 pm »
I downloaded a custom korean rom i found on some korean forum.  It is based on Sharp's 3.10 rom (i'm using it on a 5500).  Everything is actually quite similar except for some additions/exclusions.

opera of course was excluded, so i installed 6.0 from an ipk.  Every program included in the rom can read korean just fine.  opera of course can't.  i installed the effy korean software from timepsace systems (just the trial version).  i noticed that it changed the font used for everything on my zaurus (to a rather poor one that only includes full korean characters, not individual parts).  opera can now read korean web sites, but fonts on my entire system were changed.

so i was wondering what settings the program changed to change the default font on my system?  i have one that i'd rather use that i can easily set up in oz, but how can this be done on the sharp rom (or even just in opera 6 as thats the only program i really need it working in)?

i'm totally new to linux, so this is pretty confusing for me, heh.  thanks in advance for any help/advice i can get on this.

finally figured it out and thought since this post kept showing up in my googling that i should post a solution for anyone looking.
i installed 한글롬 rc3.  this is a rom based on the sharp 3.1 rom.  it doesn't include opera, and opera 6.0 won't read korean by default.

the rom can be obtained somewhere on this site: http://www.zaurusian.net
probably in 자료실 (i think you have to register to access posts in that board, but at least a korean ssn isn't required)

as for making opera read korean you can either look on that site above for a modified chartables.bin (this replaces the one that opera installs) OR you can just install opera 7.3 from the zug feed right here!  it can display and post korean to the web perfectly!  (the solution was so easy it hurt - -;;;)

there's also a ton of koreanized programs at zaurusian.net.  hope this helps anyone trying to koreanize their zaurus

Hi!

Thanks for your post!

I have been trying all day to get a korean input method on my zaurus 860 but have had no luck.

Ive tried  Q Keyboard which installs, but only block letters are displayed on the keyboard.

What do I need to do to allow for korean input?

Please help if you can!
Thanks
