Hi
I have been a desktop Linux user for 4 years and would love to get a linux pda. So far I think the choice boils down to a choice between an 860 and a 6000 - anybody got any comments as to which would be better? I am in the UK so actually buying one of the damned things is going to be hard enough
<rant>
*waves fistfull of cash around* - HEY SHARP I WANT TO GIVE YOU MONEY - WHY WONT YOU SELL ME A ZAURUS?
</rant>
Anyway it seems I have two options - buy an 860 from
www.shirtpocket.co.uk who will import it for 565 pounds or get my brother who is in the states to get one for me and bring it over at christmas time - would work out at about 380 pounds at the current exhange rate unless there are any import restrictions I dont know about. so the 6000 wins on price.
Some general questions I have are - how much straight linux software will work for these things? Some software I would like to use include emacs, gcc, xpdf, latex, abiword and maxima. Also how good is the Java implementation on these machines? Will I be able to code in java directly on them? Is it easy to sync with a Linux desktop?
Any help or comments would be gratefully received.
Thanks
Mike
