No just saying that GPE, pdaXrom and XQt should all be able to run the same stuff assuming that the libs are available. So you can also look at what desktop apps people have installed on pdaXrom and XQt, etc.

Possibly, but the SA isn't that much slower than the PXA and it runs on the PXA without being too slow; no way to know unless someone tries it out. The problem here though, is that all of the stuff from the pdaXrom feed is compiled using the ARM5 instructions set which won't work with ARM4 processors like the ones in the 5500 and 5000D.

The easiest thing to do is check whether there's an .oe file for abiword in OE, if so try to compile it (or debug it, possibly checking the pdaXrom SDK to see what patches, etc. they use) or just add it yourself.

Not sure about the libs, again check pdaXrom to see the requirements and look at what's in OE at the mo, then add as appropriate.

Alternatively you could wait for the next OZ release which is rumoured to have a GPE version as well as an Opie version. I don't think it is too far off.

My last comment wasn't about getting GPE on the Zaurus, it was about getting a fullscale X app onto the Zaurus, like Abiword, which sounds very complicated indeed

Yes it does, this is what I was running on my 5500 (see sig).
Edit: Oh, I've obviously got around to changing my sig, but I was running 3.5.1pre1 with GPE for a bit.

Anyway, assuming someone puts abiword in OE it should work fine (if it can be done with pdaXrom it will also be possible with GPE).

For a 5500, assuming I wanted to try running a fullscale app like Abiword, which would be best to make the attempt with, GPE or OPIE?

GPE.

At least that way you'll just need to add the appropriate libs (as Abiword is an X11 app and GPE uses X11 rather than writing directly to the framebuffer like Opie). To run it under Opie it'd require a re-write to use the framebuffer and QTE.

I guess if you wanted to run full scale X app, like Abiword, on a zaurus, you're looking at a serious SD memory card to provide the storage space for that app!

I've run AbiWord on my c750 without a memory card, but it didn't leave room for too much else.

Hey,

i tried to run Abiword on SL5500 OZ/Xqt System but without luck. I search all the libs which Abiword requiered. They are all compiled against strongarm. But Abiword isn't so someone has to compile Abiword against Strongarm than PXA.

If someone needs more info, libs please ask!
