Source Code Is Moving To Sourceforge For A Pocket
« on: September 20, 2004, 11:27:13 pm »
UPDATED 04/17/2006:

SourceForge Project for the Sipix A6 printer is called "A6Driver".

Click here to download source code (zip file)

Function Spec Documentation

Sipix Company site - Links for Manuals and drivers but nothing for Linux/ARM

I have gotten the source code for the latest driver software for he A6 Printer (THIS printer) for Windows CE  (and XP, 98, 2000 as well I believe).  I haven't got the source code for the last palm driver, but I have asked for it and should recieve it if it is still around.

I will moving all the source code into Sourceforge.net so this is a call out to any developers looking to code(port) a POCKET printer driver that supports IR to our beloved Zaurus series.  The Code is in CPP.....unfortunately, that is not my forte.

With a nice small foot print, and IR builtin, this would make a great printer for the Zaurus  if someone could spend some time porting  it.

Anyone up for the task?

(It's ALOT smaller than it looks and runs on 4xAA batteries. (plus it's  thermal)
Plus it is exactly one-quarter the size of a full page, so a 200% enlargement make it 8.5x11.  (nice 400dpi printing, so enlarges pretty well).

Sipix A6 Printer at a glance:
    * Infrared wireless and serial port connectivity
    * Ultra-slim, compact and battery powered
    * Thermal technology for reliable silent operation
    * No messy ribbons or cartridges to replace
    * High resolution, continuous tone printout

ALL DONE....All SIPIX A6 Printer driver specs and source code are in SOURCEFORGE (or as much as the company could find.)

This would be an awesome printer for the Z as it is battery operated  (comes with AC too)  andd is IRDA.

We once tried to use an IrDA printer for a route sales project we were doing.  We were using some ruggedized O'Neill stuff.  Let's just say that it worked well indoors.  Outdoors, it was often difficult to get the printer to see the Zaurus' IR port, thanks to the bright sunlight.  A bit of strategic positioning to shade the IR port on the printer, and it all worked well enough.  The point is that it's not terrifically reliable.

A BT printer, on the other hand, would be fly.  Of course, when you're talking about one that's prints a quarter sheet and only uses 4 AA batteries, there's not a lot of juice left over for BT.  The large honkers we were using were dot matrix and had a large NiMH battery that allowed them to print 150-200 pages, so bluetooth wouldn't be a huge disadvantage.

I have this printer and I honestly think it works at > 2ppm but that may be illussion as the head is zipping around in a very amuzing fashion.

I just think that having the printer work with the Z would be useful for some, and they are readily available, plus no ink reqd and paper is cheap...if you want to go super cheap you can buy a fax roll and cu it and re-roll....seems like too much work to me, but hey, it's an option.

For a printer the A6 is a very tiny opion, and it is very accurate.  Nice thing is that if you take a screen print and photocopy at 200%, you have a nice letter size print....perfectly sized.

There are alot of times, that I find a cool site that contains a coupon code, game cheat or article, that I want to print when Z surfing....this just makes it easier than emailing my PC the address line.

Hopefully someone picks up the sourc code at source frorge and combines with the IRDA howto (or looks at the source of other Z IR apps) and puts it all together.  I would think it should be a straight-forward port, but then again....

Omicron, any progress getting folks involved in porting a driver for the Sipix A6?
I just picked up one of these for $22 at my local Microcenter.  It would be great to have it work with the Z.

OK if its not a stupid question how do you print anything from a Z5500 ? Non of the apps has a print option.  Opera , Hancom, PDF viewer non have a file print type option I can find.

I cannot find the A6driver sources anywhere. I appreciate if someone sends me a copy of the files moved to SF project page.

Thanks for contacting me guys, it looks like it got deleted from sourceforge.net  (probably becuase I think I put it in the wrong area).

Worked on it today and got the files into CVS as well as produced a "Release" of the source files for download in a single zip file.

Please contact me if anyone is interested in being setup in sourceforge as a developer/contributer to this (a6driver) project, as I have Admin rights.
