Stylus replacement
« on: December 18, 2003, 04:30:59 pm »
The stylus on the SL5500 is very brittle and I have polished wooden floors so they don\'t survive the drop (second time I have done it, not happy Jan). Anyone found a suitable of the shelf replacement for these, does a Palm T series Belkin work (they look similiar)? I can’t find anyone that sells original replacements here in Australia.

The belkin ones do work the only problem is that they have a 2/3 mm knob one the top that allows you to grab it

I know of a certain Myer store with a couple of packs and they marked down as well. I also have an account with Tech Pacific whom import the PalmOne stuff so I can get them wholesale if I\'m patient enough.

Those are the ones I got.  I find them to be much nicer feeling, rather solid.  They also seem to be of a better quality, mine took a nose dive onto an oak floor today and survived.  And the extra length from them being spring loaded is nice.

The only downside is that the original no longer \'clicks\' into place.  I got these as a replacement after I thought I had lost my original stylus, but later found it.

It also hangs out of the Z by a slight ammount, I took a pic for your viewing pleasure, http://www.pbase.com/george_iii/zaurus

I\'m glad the pics helped, I added one more of the tungsten t stylus next to the zaurus stylus to that gallery.

As for the 300D, you\'ll have to pry it from my cold dead hand.

I would not say the Tungsten stylus is a perfect fit for a CX00.  It sticks out a bit far and has an ackward look on these units.

However, you can make the Tungsten stylus a perfect replacement.  The black cap can be removed, albeit with great difficulty.  You use a couple of pliers with the  black cap and stem wrapped with a cloth or paper towelto protect them from damage.  Then pull and wrench like hell.  Be sure one plier holds the thin stem part of the spring load and the other pliers on the black cap. DO NOT HAVE THE PLIERS HOLD THE MAIN STEM OF THE STYLUS OR YOU WILL COMPLETELY DESTROY THE STYLUS.  Once the black cap comes off, use a hack saw to remove 2-3 millimeters from the stem and also the same amount from the black cap.  Then place the black cap back on.  You need to wiggle it on with quite a bit of force.  Voila a stylus with a perfect fit.

After I made mine for my C760, it is probably the best stylus I have owned for any of my Zaurii.  The spring loaded top is very nice.

I, too, dropped my SL-5500 stylus... and it broke.
I\'m wondering what stylus you guys have ordered.

Are you guys talking about
Palm P10893U Tungsten T 3-Pack Stylus?
http://www.futureshop.ca/multimedia/produc...ge/10022603.jpg

Or 3 in 1 stylus?
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=107084

You also said the original stylus did not \'click\' after you have used the Palm stlus.
Does Tungsten T stylus \'click\' when you use it?
Is it secured when you insert it in?  I don\'t want the stylus to fall.

It\'s the Palm P10893U Tungsten T 3-Pack Stylus.

The Tungsten stylus can be pushed in all the way so that it \'clicks\' somewhat, but it is a tighter fit anyway and is easier to get out again if you leave it sticking out by a mm or two (Since the top is rounded it doesn\'t catch on anything). Even when sticking out slightly it is still more secure than the original stylus, but it\'s not like it jams in or anything.
