Startup Screen

I tried to change my startup screen as described in the the Startup Screen How-To.
I tried to copy and paste, and got a 'Paste Failed' error. I also tried using cp -f to copy the file and recived the same error. Am I missing somthing? I have used Linux for a while, but I am still a newbie. Please Help.

In terminal, before copying, do this:

su

And if it asks you for a password, enter the four digit security code you entered in the security settings.
