A few questions about current (RC5) version
« on: October 08, 2004, 10:37:22 am »
It sounds like PDAXROM is getting tantalising close to being what I want to run but I have a few questions....

Does your libSDL stuff actually run under X ? - can I just do a regular build of most SDL stuff (assuming no OpenGL etc.) and will it run ? - Tried PDAXROM 1.0.5 and found that things like ScummVM you had to drop out of X to run. - A bit offputting.

Are the latest versions of KDEPIM/Pi, KoPI, KaPI etc. available for PDAXROM. If so then I could put up with whatever synchronising quirks there may be and run that.

In all seriousness my most useful bit of stuff that my Z runs is QwikiWiki and it sounds like all the Apache bits are ready to go and I would get a much better browser on the Z to work with the Wiki on board - My necessary config though would mean a reasonable number of manual steps to get everything back up and running that I need under PDAX that I have under Cacko. Are there relatively simple update steps between RCs or is it a blow it away and start again approach with each update ?

Regards,

Andy

Oh and do you know if you can suspend/resume without having to start up X ?, like if you are in a hurry to put the Z away.

I know that the power button doesn't work on 1.0.5 when you are just runnning the console.

Cool, I know there were some suspend/resume quirks with various versions. have you tried this with RC5 or is this from 1.0.5 ?

Actually apologies if you are thinking 'Why doesn't this guy just try it'. I've got quite a lot of stuff on my ext3 SD card which is the only thing that I have that's big and fast enough for me to NAND backup onto.

Just want to be sure that I'm not heading into a 4 hour round trip to nothing if I have to tar everything off (or maybe dd it), reformat to FAT, NAND backup, install, try all the things that I want to try and then decide I'm into my rollback position.

All responses greatly appreciated.

Thanks again Alan,

Anyone got any ideas on the SDL stuff ?

+ Anyone know if a 512Mb SD card is enough to do any reasonable porting stuff with the onboard dev kit ? (sick of apps that take a LOT of hacking to cross compile)

I'm itching to have a go at getting ClanLib working with SDL and seeing if we can finally get Pingus working. - sorry but Gnus just doesn't hack it graphically.

All those icons come standard except for the Doom icon, I found that on the web somewhere.

OK,

Getting to the point of going through my Cacko ROM install and working out what I can do without for a while if the release cycle means losing everything each time I update PDAXROM.

One thing though, is anyone actually running the kdepim stuff ?, does it alarm ? I know there was a seperate applet for Qtopia to make it do this.

I think I've gotta go kdepim, certainly for the address book. Took a look at the standard AB application for Kathrin on my desktop machine... can't believe that they chose one that doesn't have 'Company Name'.

Good luck!

I can't say anything about the PIM elements of pdaxrom, I never use them.
