RC5: ScummVM 0.6.1b uploaded

Ok, so here it goes.

Both windowed and fullscreen QVGA and VGA modes are supported. The default setting is to use fullscreen QVGA, which is the fastest mode, but everything is tweakable from the game launcher GUI. Actually, advmame2x looks quite playable.

Additionally, fullscreen vertical flip is available to facilitate playing with the clamshell closed -- so you can easily use the backside buttons. This can be selected from the launcher GUI, too.

The touchscreen works the way it worked in scummvm-console -- clicks are produced by releases, not presses. This gives you an opportinity to aim the cursor precisely, so you'll never miss the right dialog entry accidentally etc.

The following buttons are mapped: backside Cancel acts as a left mouse button, backside Ok acts as the right one, jogdial left acts as an Escape, jogdial right pulls down the in-game menu.

Suspending is working perfectly, but only when choosing the 'Suspend' option from the in-game menu. Please do not use the usual 'Power off' backside button, as it would not work correctly. This way, most of the time sound get screwed up when restored. I failed to catch that button (xmodmapping doesn't seem to help), so just don't push it.

Uploaded to the usual unstable feed, though it does not seem to be the best place for RC5 packages. We need an RC5 feed

Have fun!

Very cool.  I just installed it and fired up my Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis demo and it worked.  However, I couldn't get the in game menu to come up using the right jogdial.  I'm not sure what's wrong.  I had to do a hard reset to get my Z back.  I'll try it with Day of the Tentacle and see what happens.

Now that we have scummvm, quake, and doom working, anyone feel like compiling GemRB so I can run Planescape Torment??!

It's a huge game, but with at 4 or 5GB microdrive I'm sure it could work.

Maybe GemRB could make it so Baldur's Gate 2 and Icewind Dale could run on the Z?  Am I getting too greedy?

UPDATE: The menu worked fine in DOTT and Maniac Mansion, but it still won't come up in IJ for some reason.

Oh yeah, and here is the Linux source for GemRB for any brave sould who's interested.

That's strange. Try also using the 'Menu' button. But the right jogdial must work as well.
And btw, if nothing helps, you can always quit it by 'alt-x' (Address-x).

Please report back more, as that looks odd.

Just gave it a try, no luck with the menu button either.  It's no big deal, since the demo isn't playable anyway.  Hitting alt-x got me out of it which was good.

Vmscumm now is much faster and convinient . Finally I dont have to quit X to play. And video settings to improve quality finally works - you can use them and game is still playable. Great job!

I find the side buttons hard to use to be honest (My hand feels wrenched after a while, holding too many items) (On a C860 anyway).

I added two lines to /usr/lib/scummvm/scummvm.xmodmap that maps the two japanese keys to the two 'clicks' and tend to play in open clamshell mode.

Code: [Select]
keycode 129 = F11
keycode 130 = F12

Yep, side buttons may feel not very handy, but unfortunately we don't have any other exterior buttons. Have you tried playing in flipped mode with the clamshell closed, so the buttons are at the top of the screen, not at the bottom?

And yes, I thought about mapping some real keyboard buttons, but I haven't figured what would be the comfortable ones (Cancel/Ok looked nice, but that would deprive the Esc key, and so on). Japanese keys seem to be the right choice, especially for right-handed, so I will apply your xmodmap additions, thanks.

Yeah I've played flipped and non flipped. So either the buttons are in front  far left, or back far right.

If they've back far-right, then I'm using the same hand as the pen. Difficult.

If its front, then I find I lose balance each time I click, and in BASS you click a LOT (especially when trying to find something that _may_ be on the screen) ;-)

So whilst it would be great to play in closed mode, I can only play with it open. But thats just me ;-)

PS: Where is 'suspend'? I've yet to find it... though I've only so far installed BASS.

Unfortunately, BASS is a non-Scumm game, and therefore it uses its own dialogs. I have only patched Scumm engine to add the 'Suspend' button. BASS menus seem to be too hardcoded to add anything there without redrawing graphics etc.

There is a simple solution though -- I'll provide a key to suspend. Say, Fn-S. This would work in absolutely all games, not only in Scumm ones.

Expect an updated release with your Jap keys applied and Suspend shortcut.

As for open/closed -- suit yourself, and if you have any ideas on how to improve the experience, feel free to share.

Package updated. Use Ctrl-S to suspend. Kana/Zen keys now act as left/right mouse buttons.

Bundabrg, your xmodmap additions have them swapped, i.e. left Japanese key pushes right mouse button, and vice versa. So I flipped them.
