AbiWord Weirdness in RC5
« on: October 17, 2004, 12:33:55 pm »
I've been running RC5 now for a while but haven't had much reason to use AbiWord. Well, I launched it and started typing and whenever I hit the space key, AbiWord launches a new window. As long as I don't hit a space key, things are fine. But as soon as I do, another window launches.

I reflashed RC5 and found the same problem persists.

Just for comparison, I typed in aterm and scite and both of these programs did not exhibit the same problem, so it appears my space key is working.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Bill

I went ahead and logged a bug report and we'll see what comes of it.

Don't know if this helps, but I had it keep popping up Firefox. I traced to to the fact that it was doing it EVERY time I hit '1'.

Now I use a modified /etc/X11/kb/corgi.modmap, where Fn+1 to Fn+9 are F1-F9 respectively. For some strange reason AbiWord was triggering this even when I just hit a number key?
Commenting out those entries fixed my problem.  Maybe you have something in your modmap that does something when Fn+Space is hit?

I had the same problem and figured out:

If you click on Abiword to start it, then don't move the mouse arrow, it will be sitting over the new document button. By hitting the space bar, the mouse arrow will push on the new doc button. All you have to do to prevent it is to move the arrow over the document body after abiword starts.

Now if I could just get abiword to print without crashing I would be a very happy man.

Sheesh, is the answer this simple? Makes me feel like a dog.

Well, now I will have to flash back to pdaxrom to check it out.

Yes the problem is focus in on the new button - you can also just click "cancel/esc" and then start typing will also fix it - strangely enough this bug doesn't appear on the x86 version. And its not related to the fact that is starts in Times New Roman as some has suggested :-(

We are looking into it..
C760 running pdaXrom lastest ;-)
SL5500 Running Cacko Qtopia
512 MB SD Card, 128 MB CF Card, Prism2 CF Wlan.
