C860 not charging/warranty-need to contact Sharp
« on: October 27, 2004, 05:32:59 pm »
Hi there, I bought a C860 from a ZUG member. I love the unit but it turned out to have the charging problem, and as such is next to useless for what I need it for. Now it seems I have been left high and dry by the seller, so I need to contact Sharp Japan in order to find out what my options are to get it repaired. Does anyone have any email contact addresses for Sharp Japan that will accept and respond to an English email?

I have the Sharp Warranty cand, but unfortunately no idea who the original vendor was.....

you should read the post on 760 charging problems,a few post earlier, and follow the link that has been posted.
If you get stuck after that, email me as I live in Japan and Ill find out for you.

Do you have a reciept....It would have perforated edges with a sticker on it...

All you need is that and the warranty card.

To be safe...goto www.sharp-usa.com and get them to connect you or tell you number for English speaking Sharp-Japan and they can walk you though everything.

If the rep gives you problems, then ask for a supervisor and if that doesn''t work, just call back and try again at a diffferent ime of day. (Diff Supervisor).

Generallly any helpful meaning person at Sharp-USA can get you setup with the correct people in Sharp Japan....I mean they ARE the same company after all.

They may feed you a line, just don't take no for an answer....be polite but firm and unwavering.  They have a responsibility to service thier customer who have a warranty cliam for an item that was purchased as a gift in Japan  (hint, hint)

Just my suggestion.

Thanks for the replies- I have done a couple of quick pictures of the documentation that I got with unit (apart from the manual). The A4 sheet looks like an advert for a wifi card of some description. Can anyone tell me what the others are?

Incidentally the smallest form has a sticker inside which says "World Electric Company Co. Ltd"- could that be the receipt?

Yes and this would have a date (or area of one) that represents the date of purchase, this date is the START date of your warranty.

You need to zoom in on the top left paper as that (i think) is the warranty card.  Then hopefully someone here can translate it for you..  The warranty card will have a serial number on it....the reciept will have a sticker....I think the warranty is more like cardboard-ish than paper...What I have doens't seem to be shown here...but that may be diferent on different batches of C860's

I had a translated version of both, but my HDD  crashed and I can't find it....but I very certain about the reciept/date, etc

As for the warranty card, as I recall it is Name Address, phone and description of problem....even if they are in the wrong field, those are what you are going to need to tell them anyway.  And they should be able to contact you (email/phone) should they need more.  But first you need to find the paper that has the seriual number...might be wedged in the book still.

Also, The part I don't know is what the addess is to send the unit.

I suggest a new thread entitled "Warranty: Human Japanese Translation needed" and I am sure someone will break it down for you.

On the positive side, you have a reciept...so that should set your mind partailly at ease.

If you are using the original AC adapter that comes with the unit, then try using a different AC adapter, such as the EA-70 adapter for the Zaurus SL-5500.  The original AC adapter that came with my unit was not outputting enough voltage.

Careful with your warranty docs. The warranty in Japan becomes VOID if someone else gets your number and abuses it.

Actually the waranty states that that it is not valid outside of Japan.

Sharp USA will probably tell you this - you may be able to bitch them into excepting it, but in Japan you are responsible for getting the appliance to the repair shop for repair even when it's under warranty.

That may mean some hefty shipping costs.

It also appears that the waranty card has not been stamped with the date of purchase (top left doc, bottom left box with the characters      年    月      日より)so you will need the receipt from the store to get warranty service in Japan.
