How do you resist

My Zaurus is "out for delivery"  I know that when it gets here I should charge it for at the very minimum four hours before even turning it on.  This is the most wonderful PDA in the whole entire world and once I have it in my hands I don't know how I'm going to wait even that long to be able to turn it on and play.

How did you resist?  Will it really be bad for the battery if I turn it on while it's plugged in?

Well, I'm not an expert but it shouldn't be a problem as long as you are plugged into AC. It won't charge as fast, though.

no really, I couldn't resist either... I let it charge for an hour or two, then I started playing with it while it continued to charge...  I haven't seen any problem with the battery yet.

When I got mine I turned it on after 20 or 30 minutes it had started to charge. As somebody else said, it is not a problem if you use it while it charges. Just make sure you keep it charging until the charging LED turns off, either the Z is on or off.

Also, make sure that for the first three or four charging cycles you run the battery completely down before recharging again. This will condition the battery to its max capacity.

I believe my battery is weak (I find it very weak with wifi, doesnt last more than 15 or 20 minutes) because i did that, 30 minutes of charge did some test, etc then let it charge. Maybe it doesnt help. Else without wifi, i have like a hour or so with full light on.

What a bunch of impatient geeks here!  

Since mine was delivered by my long time no see sister living in the USA (almost 2 years I haven't see her), she gives me the box, I opened it, installed the battery and plugged it. Then, back to my sister which had two years to tell me about. So, it just took more than 4 hours and I didn't see time vanishing...

So, my suggestion is:

• Have a sister or a brother
• Send her/him far away for 2 years
• Order you Zaurus and have it delivered to your sister/brother
• Wait for the next vacation time of your sister/brother
• Invite her/him to visit you
• Don't forget to tell him/her to bring your Zaurus
• When your sister/brother arrives, install the battery, plug it
• Talk with your long time no see brother/sister
• Switch on your Zaurus
• Enjoy!

My husband might have a little bit of a problem with that...  

Seeing how I was at work, I managed to leave it alone for about an hour and a half and then I turned it on (keeping it plugged in all the time) just to see the screen.

Then I let it charge till it was full.  With a full battery I was able to get about three hours of wireless browsing in, but I ran it dead dead.  I charged it overnight with the wireless card in and in the morning the charge light was still on...but when I unplugged it the battery was at 100%  Now I'm running it down again, but no wireless at work.

C860 if I haven't mentioned it before.

My buddy, currently living in Japan, bought a pair of them. I asked him to leave mine in the box until the day before I arrived, then plug it in and have it ready for me.

He forgot of course.

So, my plane gets diverted from Kansai to Narita due to a Typhoon, and it takes me an extra 12 hrs or so to make it to his place in Minami-Kusatsu. By this time it's 2am and I'm jetlagged all to hell and back again.

I plug my 860 in to charge, look at the screen on his, and collapse unconscious for 9 hrs or so. I wake up, my Z is fully charged and I am happy.

I've been inseperable from the bloody thing every since. It's replaced my Palm Pilot, My MP3 player, my little "haul everywhere" laptop, my Japanese study equipment (usually at least a Pocket PC), and acts as my book ready and emergency flashlight. I couldn't ask for more.

Yes, I'm still going to buy a SLC-3000.

The Cxx0 series (and presumably the C3k) don't need the 24 hour pre-charge as they don't have the uinternal battery needed by the SL5k series (does the 5600 have this?) to keep the user setting if the main battery runs out of power.

From memory the Japanese manual that came with my C760 said nothing about needing to charge prior to use (my battery came fully charged when I oepned the box). I didn't even get mine plugged into mains before I had it turned on, I was opening the bax as I left the store.

Haha I had the same reaction. I just thought "it can't hurt if you leave the mains plugged in", turned it on, and the red Sharp screen is now permanently imprinted on my retina. The screen still amazes me when I have to use other PDAs.
