What chargers are you using?
« on: December 27, 2003, 05:15:37 am »
Are you guys using the ER-72 charger that came with the Zaurus or another one?  Since it was meant for Japan will it make my Z faulty.  My c860 seems to have problems holding a charge.  I charged it for 20 hrs for the first time and it seemed full but now it would just drain like nothing after each charge.

Anybody else having this problem?

Try looking for an iPaq charger for a similar \"sized\" battery brain chip. I found an iPaq auto charger on sale at Radio Shack and since it also was usingthe same ARM chip as the 5500 and  it worked wonderfully.

I\'m in Australia so it\'s 240V for me. I\'m using a P to Go by Go Forward Enterprise Corp. I got it from brando http://shop.brando.com.hk/micropoweradapter_zaurus.php
Nice and small. Doesn\'t get very warm at all. It has straight pins so I use a travel adapter for Australia plug holes. I might bend the pins myself soon.

My 760 did fine with the stock japanese charger, but then I lost it a month ago.  I\'m using an ipaq charger and a charger from peakcloudy off of ebay.  Both work fine.

I was using a self-made charger (generic AC adapter @ 4.5V,1200mA and some cut\'n\'solder of the Japanese adapter) and it works great. Now I have the \"power combo\" bought from ShirtPocket (battery charger and extra battery unit in one). Only downside is that you can\'t charge the Z without having batteries in the charger...

Also, if it\'s possible t charge the Z from any computer USB port, why didn\'t Sharp connect that part on the provided USB cable?

Hi Prefect,

The standard Sync. Cable that comes with the Zaurus (C7xx/860) includes a pin input which lets you plug an adaptor into it.

If you look in the Japnese manual, there is a picture showing what looks like the Power adaptor plugged into the sync. cable.

I don\'t know Japanese, so it could say \"whatever you do don\'t plug in like this\" but it does seam unlikely

Hi Zuber,

Well, that was kinda my point. If the Z can be charged from a standard USB port, why make the USB charge connector separate from the USB link connector? The ability to charge from a computers USB port would be nice (yes, I know it can be done with 3rd-party hw).

Also, what\'s the point of having two identical power connectors on the Z?

If it wasn\'t obvious, that was my post above. Geeze, what\'s the timeout on this board - 5 seconds? What\'s wrong with being able to be logged in all day long?

Now you have lost me.

Sometimes you want to take you Z with you and you take your power supply because it might need charging. Most places/companies etc.  will not complain if you ask to use one of the mains sockets.

Might start getting suspicious if you connect to one of their PCs just to charge your device. Sorry but you are not allowed to connect to our network blah blah blah...

Others you might want to sync./connect so you take sync. cable.

Only alternative would be some sort of Y cable. fiddly and awkward when travelling light.

Might be missing something (not that unusual), but it makes sense to me.

Having the pin input on the Sync. cable is just for conveniance I assume. Only one bit to connect/disconnect at your base as it were.

Forgot to ask,

what is your verdict on the combo charger. New item, so would appreciate some feedback. Would have been even better if it had a car lead as well, but other than that we thought it was a neat solution.
