Zuber,

I will be trying one of your new usb cables as soon as you post it

I ordered one today along with a couple of screen protectors.

Do they do a serial version as well?  it would be handy for connecting to sun boxes and fibre switches etc.

The zthin is a bit bulky to carry around all the time.

Zuber,

I\'ll try to explain one last time.

My point is this: if the Zaurus can be charged through the USB port, why didn\'t sharp make their cable into an USB link+charger combo, so that your Z is automatically charged when you connect it to your computer? You would still have your normal charger, but this one would be a little bonus.

About the combo charger; I really haven\'t had time to test it that much yet - not much power used on the 10min trip to work.    Also, I\'m a bit weary of using it since I only have 1300mAh batteries at the moment, and it\'s listed as taking 1600-2400. I tried it anyway and if I read the blink rate of the green LED correctly, it discharged in a 1-2 minutes and recharged in 5-10.
Will have to buy some new batteries to prevent a meltdown in the charger...

BTW, if I understand it correctly, you will effectively get a six-fold increase in battery time with four 2400mAh batteries, i.e. you can charge the 1700mAh Zaurus battery 5 times - or does some power get lost over time or as heat?

OK, I get it. But got a simple answer.

Save having to explain it all to consumers. Far too confusing

Please use the charging adaptor supplied.
Unless you are using the Sync cable since that will also charge your unit.
You may also use the sync cable to charge your unit from your or another PC even if you are not syncing with it.
But the PC must be switched on to charge your unit.
However, you may want to use the adaptor supplied anyway, since it will charge faster than the sync. cable.
But what if I want to sync. and charge quickly at the same time ?

etc. etc.

Regarding battery charger. Your calcs are optimistic.
2400 mAh battery at 1.25 volts each so 5 volts at 2400 mAh.

No idea abot efficencies etc. Not a battery expert, you can probably get a PhD in these things. Perhaps someone else can shed light on this. 2400 maybe output.

Plus I would guess you never actually use all 1700mAh of your battery. So you would only be calculating topups from whatever capacity is actually used before battery is shut off.

My guestimate 1.5 to 2 good additional charges.

Rapidly loosing will to live, will stop now.

D\'oh! And here\'s me with an EE degree...
Still good for 20h of use though, which makes 4h/day, 5 days. Also means it will last me over the transatlantic flight this summer.

Make sure you use a new set of batteries a few times before a big trip. Usually takes a few uses to get best out them.

Does somebody tried to make battery expander using cellphone batteries? There should be some 5V  LiOn ones on market and probably smaller then pack of AA.

Other question (as I don\'t get Zaurus yet):

Can Zaurus be charged using Nokia ACP-12E charger (5V/800mA)? This would allow me to have original power supply at home and as additional this charger.

Good question, but Palm did the exact same thing on their M5x series. They also did as the c7x series with Sharp is, where you can/do plug the power supply INTO the USB cable which then plugs into the unit. I guess they just thought the power supply was better than USB voltage.

Maybe the didn\'t want to be liable in case someone\'s PC put out 10 volts instead of 5.

I use the charger from my Metricom radio modem. Right voltage, right current, and the plug fits. At least it wasn\'t a total loss after Metricom went belly up.
