Where to buy Zaurus in California?
« on: December 27, 2003, 08:54:10 pm »
I\'m visiting the bay area for a short while, was wondering if there\'s a decent place to buy a 5600 locally?  I heard Fry\'s Electronics used to carry them, but I stopped by and didn\'t see anything.  Any other ideas, or is mail order the only option?

I was just at frys the other day and noticed that they didn\'t have the 5600 anymore... very disappointing.  Now that they don\'t have it, I don\'t know of any stores that carry them in the bay area.

I\'d highly recommend the 860 over the 5600.

I was the Sunnyvale store the other day, they did have one on display and there was a PL number, but when I asked the associate if there were any left in stock, the computer showed there were none available at any Frys locations.  I wonder if that\'s in preparation for discontinuation?

I did enjoy the opportunity to try out the display model, its the first time I\'d held one in my hands.  I liked the form factor, it felt natural and solid, if a little big.  I wasn\'t too impressed with the built-in PIM apps, but I\'m assuming those can be replaced with Opie, etc.  They keyboard was usable enough.  I suppose I\'ll just wait for the 6000 series since the improvements are worth it (especially built-in wireless and the USB host) and the release date is supposedly not too far off.

true the release date isn\'t too far off, but because the 6000 is marketed for the enteprise market, I doubt you\'ll ever see one in a store.  And have you seen the prices for the 6000?  You\'d be better off getting a C series (750 or 860), you\'d probably like the form factor better anyways.

How long are you in the bay area?  If you\'re in or near the city, I could probably meet up and show you my 5500 and C760... for comparison..
