Some Packages For Rc5+
« on: December 13, 2004, 10:20:20 pm »
I've compiled some packages i want to share with you all. I'd upload them to the unstable feed, but Laze isn't answering my mails on how to do that. I've put the files on my homepage for now. So what's there?

bestcrypt 1.4-2 --- for storing data in a secure way using a virtual disk including /sbin/mkfs (bestcrypt doc)

gpsdrive 2.09 --- GPS navigation software (also install the pcre package)

linux-wlan-ng 0.2.0 --- alternative prism2 driver with tools

hping2 rc3 --- command-line oriented TCP/IP packet assembler/analyzer

netcat 0.7.1 --- networking utility which reads and writes data across network connections (GNU version)

flite 1.2 --- festival lite: a small, fast run time synthesis engine

gammu 0.99.0 --- cellular phone software

ettercap 0.6.b --- ettercap is a suite for man in the middle attacks on LAN

NEW

hostap-driver 02.4 --- Host AP driver for Intersil Prism2/2.5/3 patched with airoplay patch

hostap-utils 0.2.4 --- Host AP utils patched for firmware flashing

hostapd 0.2.4 --- user space daemon for access points

aircrack 2.1 --- 802.11 sniffer and WEP key cracker

I hope they are useful to some of you. More will follow.

Take me to the website...

Hi chrisd,

THANKS a lot for gpsdrive ... I'm using it on my notebook and try to compile the lastest 1.10 pre2 but had some problems on 1.1.0 RC5 ...

Did you tra it on 1.1.0 kathrin rc5? I will do a next try on rc7 if it is out ... but probably have to wait because I'm away until 30th dec. ...

What about your compile switches ? Standard ones? Very happy for some help ...

Thanks
Martin

Good work on your contributions, Chris!

Do you know what the newer PRISM driver does that the rc5 one doesn't?  I have a Linksys WCF12, which I think is a PRISM, and claims to have a low power consumption (yes really - 20mA on standby type of thing).  But the amount of heat it gives off makes me disbelieve that.  I am wondering if it is something to do with the driver not implementing power saving modes, and if your version might be better in that respect.

@ gromituk

I'm not really sure, but it should give you more control over the firmware settings of the card. I've also patched the driver to support raw packets for some WLAN security testing tools. I'm currently using hostap 0.2.4, also patched for raw packet support and patched for firmware flash suport, and will upload it soon. Works nicely with airodump and aireplay. It's also nice to always have an AP with you.

I know nothing of the individual package, but speech to text does involve a lot of processing power if you want to get good results, so there may be a limiting factor here.
