Rc8 On Sl-6000 Installation Problem...
« on: December 26, 2004, 11:09:15 pm »
Hi all...
I cannot install RC8 on SL-6000 following the instruction posted here, while flashing the rom, at certain point, the installer reports "error writing ro filesystem". I've tried 3 times, but  all of them failed.

my procedure is :
1. resize the root partition to 121mb
2. reboot and then flash the rom from cf
3. error occurs when the progress reaches around 60%

Finally I tried to choose the option -> "fix sharp loader NAND 64MB limit (sl-c760/c860 only)"
I know it's clearly for sl-c760/c860 only...But i just want to test  if the nand limit causes the problem...

The result is.... my zaurus 6000 won't start up anymore....even i press "reset + d + p"...
even worse... i plugged the ac adapter on...but the "charging light" won't turn on anymore...
I'm guessing it's now rip....

Please, if someone can... give me some advices....how can i bring my Z back...

The new pdaXrom is for the SL-cxxx series.  The 6000 is not part of that.  Try reflashing the original rom, that came on the cd with your zaurus.

oh...since I remember I saw a post here said that for the upcoming rc release of pdaxrom, it would support sl6000. Then I think I am wrong...

My case is...my Z won't even statup, no matter what method I used... (e.g. hard reset, reset + d + p, remove the battery for more than 2 mins then place it back...)

I think I got the worst case: the battery light won't turn on even I've plugged the ac adaptor in!

I also wish i can flash back the original rom...but the first thing to do is to wake it up...

Normally, it is possible to just use D-M menu to do NAND restore. The problem is, these service menus code also reside in NAND, so when your NAND is screwed too badly, you'll fail to get there. For this case, there is a key combo to bootstrap NAND from scratch.

I don't have much info about 6000 series, but as for 7xx/8xx, the instructions and files are here:

http://pocketworkstation.org/files/recover/

These won't work for 6000, of course. So you'll have to find something similar, but for 6000. Googling and searching/asking in the sibling forums can help. Just remember that recovery is possible.

Sorry....I don't have such choice....
It doesn't wake up anymore...
I've tried hard reset, pull out the battery for 1min+, press ok + power on, press reset + d + p

all doesn't work...

hi,

as i couldn't reach the d+m menu on my c860, the following procedure works:

1. take off the battery and the ac-adaptor

2. during pressing the d+m key plug in the ac-adaptor

the menu appears...

3. set in the battery, maybe it is necassary for stabilization of currency...

do your nand-backup...

i found it ocassionally as i set in the battery in a wrong way... i tested it several times, it worked in any case...

maybe this helps you...

bye,

titus

Following the instruction there:
http://pocketworkstation.org/files/recover...ash-recover.txt

I can see my Zaurus "flashing light" again...
But since I don't have a working "NOR" backup, so it's still far from fully recovery...

1. unlock the battery for 5sec+
2. press c + d + lock the battery at the same time
3. the Zaurus is flashing again...accordingt to the above doc, it tries to flash the nand diag and other stuff

However I don't have a working "NOR" backup,  so....next step is to find one...

Hi,
some of the zaurus-vendors offer nand-backups, e.g. conics (http://downloads.conics.net/pda/zaurus-sl-c700/service-menus/original-backups/), unfortunatly they don't have one for 6000 :-( But maybe there is some vendor with a 6000 nand. If not, maybe somebody with a 6000 can provide you his nand.

Good luck

Fabian

actually, those instructions give you three options for nand flashing... it seems from your post that you've only tried the third option (d+m).  Have you tried the other options?

I thought I already posted a link to the instruction that seemed working for you. Then you said you were looking for the files, and I posted a link to the files you needed, quoting your appropriate request. But somehow you failed to see the files you needed, only another instruction. I surely can't care more than you do. Goodbye.
