I was wondering if any good can be obtained by tomtom go linux GPL sources.
Did anyone try to give it a look?

It just contains the linux, glibc, busybox, etc code with some special drivers for the GO hardware. No source of TomTom itself. It could be used to add a MP3 player to TomTom GO itself or something like that.

yes, I simply thought that some of the specific-hardware code could be usefull for zaurus. Maybe they wrote a very good sd driver, or a module that will let us use tomtom gps external hardware with pdaxrom

If someone is able to "hack" into his/her TomTom Go I can imagine it would be possible to rip the navigation software off of it and get it running on the Zaurus fairly easily. However, I doubt it would be legal, and you'll have TomTom over you in no time if you attempt to put it online.

A few comments, I've got a TomTom Go.

1. SD driver is unlikely to be useful as this is going to be highly chipset specific.

2. The license agreement has as the following clause...

....3) OTHER RESTRICTIONS: The hiring, lending, public performance and broadcasting of Software and Hardware is prohibited. You are not permitted to fully or partly modify the Software, to analyse it by means of reverse-engineering, to decompile or disassemble the Software, or to make products derived from it. If you wish to obtain information that is necessary to ensure the interoperability of the Software with third party software, please contact TomTom at support@tomtom.com. You are explicitely prohibited from downloading the digital maps and programs contained in the Software or from transferring these to another data carrier or computer.....

3. TomTom developer information carries similar warnings that they prohibit transfer of software or mapping data onto other devices.

4. GPS is a crucial feature with the TomTom Go software and it's aimed at in car route finding, not street level so if you have a TomTom Go then there's little incentive to want to use the software on your Zaurus.

As a side note, I quite liked Pocket Streets and sent a message some time ago to TomTom that they could 'really clean up' if they did a Zaurus port as there was no other Streetfinder/Walking trip planner available for this target. Their response was that they were discontinuing that product.. I guess the GPS car navigation market is their prime share.

I would suggest looking elsewhere (and closely at the license agreement) for getting street level mapping data onto the Z.

Incidentally if you DO want a a good GPS system at a budget price for in car navigation I can highly reccomend the TomTom Go if you live in the UK. I don't know what the map accuracy is like for other countries but I have heard the US is pretty bad. UK is good though and you can install tons of add on points of interest stuff including Safety Camera databases - you can then set audible and visual alerts just so you can get adequate warning of when you are actually in that accident blackspot
