Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ-OPIE 3.5.1 Sync Connection Alert on SL5500
« on: September 22, 2004, 08:31:59 pm »
[edit - have just re-read original post and I see that I'm wrong - the warnings are on the Z...]

I think you're striking the Outlook "Object Guard Model" (http://www.outlookcode.com/d/sec.htm)

I think there's an updated version of Intellisync available for download from Intellisync that works around this.

Hope this helps,

Jeremy.

lardman - the Cancel/On-Off button suspends and resumes fine for me on my 5500.

Did you mean something else?

Jeremy.

I just had the same issue - after changing owner info, and specifying that it should be shown on the login screen, I then logged out and could not log in again. Needed a re-flash.

Loving the look and speed of GPE and OE... fantastic. Has given a new lease of life to my 5500...

Thanks,

Jeremy.

Software / Compiling recent version of MySQL

Could I ask that if somone is going to cross-compile a later version that they also do one targetting the 5500?

Cheers,

Jeremy.

Software / Compiling recent version of MySQL

The releases for MySQL for Debian (ARM) should be compatible with the Z. However, the  more recent versions of MySQL for Debian ARM have been linked against later versions of the libraries that we have on the Z...  so a new compile may be easier.

I'd love to be able to play with a later version of MySQL too, I find the Z is a great learning platform when I'm on the bus etc

Software / MS-DOS Emulator for Zaurus

Have you tried BOCHS? May be too slow on the Z to run your games tho...

"Bochs x86 emulator. Compiled to use the console, but there's an X option which I didn't use because i'm not running X on my zaurus at the moment. I tested it with freedos, and input was extremely slow. Also, I had to reduce the amount of memory in the bochs settings to keep it from running out of memory and crashing. Still, I think it's really cool that it works at all. There are some demo packages for it here."

General Discussion / Zaurus SL5500 and Sony Ericsson T610
« on: July 05, 2004, 08:02:09 pm »
FYI - Using Cacko ROM has allowed me to connect my 5500 over IRDA to GPRS on my SE T300.

See the sticky topic in the Sharp ROMS forum.

Just wanted to add my thanks to Anton for all his work on this - this rom *finally* allows me to connect to GPRS over IRDA to my Sony Ericsson T300.

FPP: use the \'Import\' function in Visiscript to load/edit existing files.

I agree that it\'s a great editor, I\'m a big fan of Scite so am very happy to have this on my Z.

Sharp ROMs / adduser with theKompany 1.0 rom?
« on: April 19, 2004, 11:54:57 pm »
Howdy,

Have just struck this problem myself - wanted to create some demo accounts for people to ssh to my Z with and have a play without giving them root.

Found a google news post to suggest that the adduser code was broken in tinylogin, and now see that there is a release of tinylogin 1.4

Anyone built it for the Z yet?

Cheers,

Jeremy.

General Discussion / Need Help w/ SL-5500 & Netgear MA701
« on: March 31, 2004, 07:52:27 pm »
Do you know which ROM are you running? (I\'m assuming the standard Sharp ROM...)

I\'ve found the TKC ROM much easier for wifi use with the MA701.

Are you trying to connect to your own access point, or to a public network?

Not sure if others have the same experience, but the my Netgear MA701 wasn\'t recognised by the async kernel. (cardinfo would return a result, but there was no kernel output to dmesg on card insert).

Swapped in the \'standard\' kernel that ships with TKC ROM and the card works fine.

Software / Sound Quality

I would imagine that your RIO MP3 CD player is boosting the lower frequencie if it\'s the same MP3 track.

What we need is a \'graphic equaliser\' function on the Zaurus audio playback apps.

Software / Looking for a text editor with syntax highlighting
« on: March 11, 2004, 03:38:59 pm »
The full build of scite definitely has syntax highlighting (for pretty much every and any language you care to name)... it\'s my fav editor on   my PC, and I try to leave a copy on every machine I work on ;-)

Hope that the  860 build also has the highlighting.

I wish someone would port it to QT so I could use it on my 5500...

General Discussion / Sharp Support for those outside the US
« on: January 20, 2004, 06:35:39 pm »
Hi All,

[cross-posting from www.zaurus.com/dev/board]

My 5500 has recently stopped working. No power-on, no charge LED, nothing. (I had recently flashed a new ROM, but that had successfully booted, and I had used the Z for about 30 mins with the new ROM.)

I have followed the threads on this board on trying soft reset, hard reset, leaving the battery out overnight, all to no avail.

I\'m at a loss as to what may have cause the problem, however I\'m in the position now where I need to have my Z fixed by Sharp. (I\'m hoping that it\'s the alleged \'fuse\' that\'s gone...)

Does anyone have any experiences in dealing with Sharp support - good or bad?
What is the turnaround period on getting a unit fixed?

I\'m in New Zealand, but am happy to fedex the unit back to whereever it needs to go.

On a side note, due to this I\'ve been forced back to using my old Visor... and was reminded that the sync routine is so much quicker than the Z... if my Z is completely dead, I may look at going back to the PalmOS platform - it\'s excellent as a PIM, and now with the connectivity to wifi/bluetooth you can do a lot of what I\'d been doing with the Z.

TIA,

Jeremy.
