MS-DOS Emulator for Zaurus
« on: July 28, 2004, 11:30:51 am »
I have some old MS-DOS programs (not games or graphics, just standard 80x25 text based programs) that I use all the time on my laptop. I would like to know if there is a DOS emulator that will let me run the dos programs on my sharp zaurus.
I have an SL-5500 running standard sharp 3.13 rom.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MS-DOS Emulator for Zaurus

Thanks for your offer of help, but it doesn't look like the dos emulator deal will work for me. It's all to complicated sounding to me. I just want to install a dos emulator program and be able use it without a lot of monkeying around. I'm an old DOS man, and I don't know a thing about linux. My zaurus would be complete to me if I could get this working. Oh, well, better luck with my next project (whatever that is).

Have you tried BOCHS? May be too slow on the Z to run your games tho...

"Bochs x86 emulator. Compiled to use the console, but there's an X option which I didn't use because i'm not running X on my zaurus at the moment. I tested it with freedos, and input was extremely slow. Also, I had to reduce the amount of memory in the bochs settings to keep it from running out of memory and crashing. Still, I think it's really cool that it works at all. There are some demo packages for it here."

Yes, I downloaded the ipk and installed it. I also downloaded the Freedos package, but I don't have a clue how to set it up, and there don't seem to be any instructions that tell you exactly how to set it up.

It only appears daunting at first. Give it some time.

(G) As would we all, friend. But the Z packages for DOS emulation are not quite up to that level of "no brainer" yet. Look at it as a challange!

Was the same myself. If you *want* to learn, you can. If not, perhaps the Zaurus machines are not for you.

There is a LOT more to a Zaurus than just DOS Semulation, man! I am still trying to get my old HP200LX applications to work on my C860, but if I never *do*, it won't make my Z any less fun to play with (G).

If you just give up, you will never master any new learning. Dig in & hit the learning curve running (G)!!
