Angstrom & OpenZaurus / 3.5.2 Gpe On Sl5000d
« on: December 02, 2004, 12:01:14 am »
I just flashed the 3.5.2 GPE image on my 5000D and it worked beautifully, although I still prefer OPIE.  Unfortunately my build machine is down a the moment, otherwise I would have built it myself.

OpenZaurus/Opie/Qtopia / Syncing Email in Linux with OPIE
« on: June 22, 2004, 12:36:12 am »
I was just wondering if anyone knows of a way to synchronize email from a linux machine to the opie mail application?  I don\'t really care what is used for an email client.  Is there a way to synchronize with an mbox file for instance?  Just wondering what everyone else does.

If there isn\'t something already out there, is the opie synchronization procedure on the protocol level pretty straightforward to develop with?

Thanks.

I run tkcVideo on OZ 3.3.6 and it works pretty well under the compat libs.  I had to rip out the data.tar.gz archive and uncompress that to install it manually, but it works.

Hello,

I am rather new at using shell scripts, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I am doing wrong here.  This is the simple script I put in a file called guitest.sh.  I execute it from the working directory /root/Documents with: sh guitest.sh

However I get a \"java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ZGUI\" error back from evm.  I can execute the command with the whole classpath stuff in there directly from bash without a problem, but when I throw it in a script I get this error.  I am getting into using the Zaval light weight gui components and I wanted to make a script so I wouldn\'t have to type the classpath stuff in every time I opened up the shell.  Thanks.

Note that the \"evm -cp ... ZGUI\" is on one line but it seems phpBB won\'t display it that way.
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/bash

echo "Starting Java GUI Test..."

evm -cp .:/mnt/card/root/Documents/:/root/Documents/lw.jar:/mnt/card/opt/QtPalmtop/lib/awt.jar:/mnt/card/opt/QtPalmtop/lib/core.jar:/root/Documents/lwtext.jar ZGUI

exit 0

6000 - Tosa / Cheap stand for the Z

I tried that out today on my 5000D, works pretty well too.  I just modified the flap that supposed to fit between the clamshells parts to be a strip that fits just inside the sd card slot under my sd card.  Thanks for the link.

You will need to install the compatibility libraries to get it to function with OZ 3.3.6.

General Discussion / Cleaning screen
« on: April 27, 2004, 12:49:24 am »
I picked up a screen cleaning kit for a few dollars by Fellowes as Staples because it was in the clearance bin.  It works great, and even includes a little buffer pad to get rid of any streaks.

Other than that, I\'ve used dilluted Widnex on a polishing cloth.  Those old fashioned cloth baby\'s diapers work great too.  The chemical components of the Fellowes kit and Windex are very similar from what I can tell.  Just my 2 cents.

General Discussion / remote control

I use qtrdesktop on OZ 3.3.6 using the compat libs: http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/showdetail.php?app=1146.  I actually use the IPK from http://os.american-data.com/rdesktop/ports...ts/qterdesktop/ , which is called qterdesktop as opposed to qtrdesktop.  Not sure what the major difference is, but it seems to run a little faster than the one directly referenced from the ZSI.  Both IPKs are hosted on the same server however.

Hi,

I am throwing together a new computer to experiement with/learn about OpenEmbedded and general Zaurus software development.  Do you have any recommendations for a Linux distro to work with?  From what I\'ve read, OE will work with any Linux distro, but I\'d like to see what everyone else has found to be a good fit.  I\'d really like to take the plunge.  Thanks and take care.

General Discussion / IRK v0.11
« on: April 17, 2004, 03:36:42 pm »
IRK v.10 worked great for me on OZ 3.3.5.  I think its only IRK and OZ 3.3.6 that has the compiler issue.

5x00 General discussions / PC connection not working with SL-5000D

I\'d say go with OpenZaurus as well.  I have used Intellisync 1.43 in order to sync with Microsoft Outlook.  After OZ is installed, there are a few little things that you need to take care of to get syncing to work.  Take a look at http://opie.handhelds.org/wiki/index.php/OpieSyncing for all of the details.  The solution works for syncing with the cradle, as well as wirelessly.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ 3.3.5 in good and in worse
« on: April 12, 2004, 04:47:13 pm »
OZ 3.3.6 seemed a bit faster and more stable to me.  A few other bugs were worked out too, including the fix for wep. The only thing to keep in mind is that executables need to be cross-compiled for gcc 3, or you have to use the compat libs for 3.3.6.

For the opera install, is the working directory from which you issue the command the same location where the ipk is stored?

Take care.

Software / Sound Quality

Does anyone know if there is fix to make XMMS play files on OZ 3.3.6 without sounding like you are in a tin can?  I\'m using the compat libs.  Based on what was said earlier in the post, is this something caused by the compat libs?  Thanks.
