I am running a C860 with the new Cacko ROM (v1.20 released March 5).  Is there a way I can install certain OZ packages that refuse to show up in Cacko\'s Add/Remove Software interface?  Please explain how this can be done AND how to remove the ipk if things don\'t work out correctly.

Security and Networking / Nemesis on Cacko ROM
« on: March 23, 2004, 08:44:11 am »
Is there a version of Nemesis that can be installed on a C860 running the new Cacko ROM (v1.20 released March 5)?  I tried the version on Irongeek\'s website but it isn\'t recognized by the Add/Remove Software interface.  I then tried installing it from the command line using ipk-new and that didn\'t seem to recognize it either.  Has anyone gotten Nemesis installed on a Sharp based ROM or have any idea how to do so?  See irongeek\'s comments (which wouldn\'t work for me) here:

Wonderful, I am glad you got it to work.

Have you, or anyone else, been able to get Nemesis installed and working?  I need some help with it as the pointers on irongeek\'s website don\'t seem to work with the Cacko ROM.

vishnja:

Are you using the version of the libraries I sent you?  Be sure to uninstall other versions of the same thing before installing the new libraries.

I switch back from the heremes drivers after running Wellenreiter because I have found that Kismet won\'t run for me with hermes.  I can connect to a network OK with hermes, but Kismet won\'t work with it.  Not sure why.

Vishnja,

I was never able to see any wireless extensions using iwconfig until I switched from the wlan-ng.conf to the hermes.conf files as outlined above.  Only after doing that will iwconfig report anything.  I don\'t know why this is the case, but it is for me too.  Frankly, I find that the original prism drivers and the wlan-ng.conf file work best for everything except Wellenreiter.  I only switch to hermes.conf and the orinioco drivers while using Wellenreiter, then I always switch back after I am finished.

dan2030 and vishnja:

PM me your email address and I\'ll gladly send you the versions I used to get it all working.  I did you the Ambicon C1100 wifi card, so I can\'t say if this method will work with other cards or not.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko Qtopia 1.20 missing "ar"

stupkid,

Thanks for your suggestions.  Despite being a relative newbie to linux, I think I understand what you are saying.  What confuses me is that I installed binutils, but I couldn\'t figure out how to use it or see what, if anything, it did.  How do you use/run binutils after installing it?  Do I need to manually set up some kind of link to it or what?  Also, what is dev_img?  Thanks.

I installed the ipkg package to allow me to use ipkg-new to install OZ packages on my C860 running the new Cacko ROM (v1.2 March 5).  When I tried to run it to install a file I got \"invalid magic\".  What does that mean and what can I do about it?

I just did this on my C860 running the new Cacko ROM (v1.20 released March 5).  Directions I wrote up and the link to the software are here:

Sharp ROMs / VNC Server for C760/C860
« on: March 19, 2004, 09:24:34 am »
Oh, I forgot to say that once you have it working you can display your Zaurus on your desktop PC by typing the following into your web browser:

http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5800/

Where the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP of your Zaurus on your local LAN.  I haven\'t tried it over the internet.  Presumably it would work if you had the right ports open in your router.

Sharp ROMs / VNC Server for C760/C860
« on: March 19, 2004, 09:21:16 am »
Finally answered my own question, YES there is a working vnc server that runs on the C760/C860 with the Cacko ROM (v1.20) and other Sharp type ROMs.  You can get it here:

http://member.nifty.ne.jp/kayoko_abe/tsuyo...700-0.4_arm.ipk

Now, to get it working first install it as normal using the regular Add/Remove software GUI on the Zaurus.  Then reboot.  Then click on the icon (one of 4) that says VNC password and set a password.  Then hold your stylus down over each of the 4 vnc icons and be sure you uncheck the display with magnified screen option.  Finally, click on the VNC server start icon.  Works great for me except with old 5500 series programs that have the display with magnified screen option checked.  As long as you uncheck the display with magnified screen option  it seems to work fine.  Really nice I think.

I installed binutils on my C860 with the Cacko ROM (v1.20).  I had a package called bing.ipk that didn\'t show up in the add/remove software utility.  I tried running the following after installing binutils:

    ar -x bing.ipk

It just gave me an error message saying \"x: applet not found\".  So how do I get ar to work after installing binutils?  Thanks.

I understand that ar has something to do with new format ipk files.  Could you please explain how it can be used to reformat an otherwise uninstallable ipk so that it can be installed on the Cacko ROM.  Thanks.

Software / How to get Kismet to work on SL-5600 with Sharp Rom

You may want to disable logging or every time you start Kismet you\'ll be creating another file on your Zaurus.
