How to get Kismet to work on SL-5600 with Sharp Rom

I am trying to get Kismet to work on a SL-5600 running the
sharp ROM version 1.32.  I installed kismet successfully
and then installed the kismet qt interface.  When the Kismet
app comes up, it goes to the \"Config\" tab.  In that config
tab, I specify:

  Scheme:  Sharp3x-prism2
  Channel:  All US
  Next to SSID: Summary

  (X) Disable Suspend
  (X) Beep on New
  (  ) Disable logging

I then press the \"Restart\" button.  The light on my SMC wireless
card lights up and starts to blink rapidly.  But after a few seconds,
I get the following error message:  \"Can\'t connect to the server\"

I know that I am close.  I think kismet sees the card and it is
gathering information.  But the GUI can\'t see that info because
it can\'t connect.  I have already held down the Kismet icon and
set it to \"Execute with root privilege\".  Is there anything else I
can do to debug the situation?  Are there some command line
commands I can try to see if kismet is working correctly?

I suppose I should also mention the versions of the software
I have installed:

kismet:     Feb.04.01
kismet-qt: 2.0.0

Could it be that these are not compatible?

I got the same results out of the 04.01 release. So I went back to the 2.8.1 version which seems to work just fine with the 1.32 roms and kismet-qt.

i had the same problem, but running as root fixed it... hmm

what happens when you execute kismet_server command?

When I run kismet_server with no arguments, I get a bus error.
Where is the older version of kismet?  I can try that.

PM me and I\'ll email you the older 2.81 version.  It works fine.  I had the same problems as you before I found it.

I don\'t honestly remember where I got it. Here or zsi? The filename is kismet-zaurus-arm-2.8.1.tar.gz and maybe a quick search would find it. The ipk is inside the archive.

I found version 2.6.0 on the zaurus software index and that
seems to work!  Should I try to find 2.8.1 (is it better than
2.6.0)?

I don\'t know. 2.8.1 is the first version I used... But I\'m glad to hear you got it working!
Now if we can all figure out how to get the new versions working???

You may want to disable logging or every time you start Kismet you\'ll be creating another file on your Zaurus.

I have the same setup and also have to use Kismet 2.8.1 with Kismet_qt 2.0 but I do not have a taskbar icon for Kismet.  Is every one having this issue also?  I start up Kismet and view the packets through the GUI but I have no icon in taskbar so if I fire up wlanmon or another util kismet loses focus and I have to jump through hoops to get it back.

Is kismet-qt a stand-alone program or is it a UI shell for the console version of kismet?  Do I need to install anything besides the kismet-qt 2.0.0 ipk?

Its just a gui shell for the command line version.  I have never had a problem with the taskbar icon not being there so can\'t help you there.
