Windows Issues / Dns Issues Winxp
« on: August 02, 2006, 07:44:06 am »
Hi All,

I know there's loads of stuff in the forum about connecting to the internet with a zaurus via a lan, and I have been through the howto https://www.oesf.org/index.php?title=Z_for_...ugh_USB_(WinXP)
but I'm stumped.

Following these instructions I can ping my pc, my dns server and external IP addresses but I can't resolve dns. I have added the dns servers for my work lan in /etc/resolv.conf, my XP firewall is off (we have a hardware firewall).

Any thoughts?

6000 - Tosa / Apache With Php
« on: July 27, 2006, 08:26:15 am »
What's the ipkg error that you get?

Is this with the package that includes both apache and php from http://www.choup.net/linux/pda/apache-1.3....2.3_0.1_arm.ipk?

Are you certain that apache is working?

Sometimes you need to alter the httpd.conf file in apache to ensure that php files are dealt with correctly but if you use the combined package then I assume that has been done for you.

General Discussion / Hi And Some Questions About The C3200
« on: July 24, 2006, 10:46:42 am »
Umm,

I've always quite liked the handwriting recognition on the zaurus (Cacko/Sharp Rom). It does take a few goes to get used to (long train journeys are ideal for this) but once you're familiar with it, I think it's great.

I don't know what sort of diagrams you're talking about- just hand-drawn ones, or something more cad-like, but Freenote is good for general doodling, and has things like text boxes for notes. As far as I know it only works on the Sharp-based Roms, ie not OZ or PdaXrom, but I could be mistaken.

Software / Sound Quality Of Shoutcast Through Mplayer/kino2
« on: July 24, 2006, 05:39:35 am »
Hmm,

I thought that the Shoutcast Plugin converted Realaudio to mp3 for the Shoutcast Server to accept. I wonder if it's an encoding issue between the Shoutcast Server and mplayer?

Software / Sound Quality Of Shoutcast Through Mplayer/kino2

Hi All,

I have set up my zaurus to listen to audio streamed from my desktop pc via winamp and shoutcast using the excellent instructions provided by speculatrix at http://www.speculatrix.f2s.com/normsoft/wi...-streaming.html

This works fine for some things- I can listen to mp3s streamed from winamp on the zaurus over wifi, but I want to listen to a digital radio station (the bbc actually), and I thought I could do this by getting the winamp shoutcast plugin to take input from the soundcard on my pc, or by using the real audio plugin for winamp and connecting to the audio stream directly. Whichever method I use, the sound quality on the pc is fine but on the zaurus it's rubbish and it's really quiet.

I have no idea where the problem lies- is it just not practical to do what I want to do, or is there a setting I have got wrong in the shoutcast server (so should ask this question in a different forum) or if it's an issue with kino2/mplayer.

Would I have better luck with a different shoutcast player on the zaurus?

Cheers

Cxx0 Hardware / Display Problems
« on: July 04, 2006, 09:18:48 am »
OK, well this problem is getting weirder...

It would appear that the problem occurs when the zaurus is being charged. When the zaurus is first charged, the lines and spikes are really strong. Over a period of about 24 hours they fade to nothing and the display goes back to normal. Next time it's charged, the lines come back.

Any thoughts? Is this hardware or software related?

Cheers

The zaurus or us?

Nope, neither... I guess there's a problem with the screen somewhere and it's going to fail completely some time soon. Ah well- it's an excuse to upgrade...

Cxx0 Hardware / Display Problems

Hi All,

My partner has a 760 that he doesn't use all that often (shame on him) so he often has to charge it up before use. Last night he switched it on after charging it all day, and as it booted up (cacko 1.23) it had strange green spiky lines going up from the hinge edge of the screen. They weren't static, but got longer and shorter, like earthquake seismographs.

When the system finished booting and got onto the splash screen, the lines had gone but the display was very washed out. When cacko was fully loaded, the display was washed out and the lines reappeared, but in white this time. It also seemed as if the icons on the desktop had lines coming off them as well.

Taking out the battery and rebooting didn't help. The japanese menus seemed to be washed out as well, but it was hard to tell. Pressing the screen didn't alter the spikes at all.

So, we turned it off before bed, then looked at it this morning, and it was fine!

Any thoughts?

Curiouser and curiouser...

I'm very jealous that you had it working!

I posted a message to the tiddlywiki google group asking for advice with this and the guy that developed it said he'd never had much luck getting it working with opera.

So, I guess it's another reason to move over to pdaxrom again...

I have tried the java.policy changes suggested on the tiddlywiki site and haven't got anywhere with it. In fact , there are two java.policy files, one in the readonly part of the file system (in Cacko at least) so that one can't be changed.

Could someone who has it working please let me know which version of opera or which other browser, which rom, and the changes (if any) that they had to make to get it to work?

Many thanks

Did anyone have the problem of not being able to save changes on Opera? Or the file simply not rendering in Netfront?

I have read somewhere that tiddlywiki only works with Opera if you make changes to the java.policy file, but if people have got it working without doing that then that would be better!

Unfortunately as well, the gtd tiddlywiki page seems to be offline...

Security and Networking / My Wifi Days Over?
« on: June 10, 2006, 12:59:37 pm »
Cheers,

It wasn't exactly a slow failure- more like not working out of the box. I did have more luck getting a connection when I put pressure on the bottom edge of the card, but I had only had it for a few weeks and dlink were happy for me to return it. Now just waiting for a new one...

Ah, well that's interesting, and something I hadn't considered. I will contact dlink and see what they have to say about it.

Thanks!

Security and Networking / My Wifi Days Over?
« on: June 07, 2006, 05:03:35 am »
Hi All,

I am experiencing the "signal is low" issue with my dlink dcf 660, after seconds of getting online right next to my access point. Searching the forums suggests this is due to a bug in qtopia/sharp, and that there's not a lot I can do about it. I haven't been able to find the original reference to this- ie where can I find out more about this bug?

So are my wireless days over? Does this happen to all users of cacko or sharp based roms? Is it related to particular cards?

If I move over to pdaxrom am I going to be able to use wifi again?

Thanks

Security and Networking / Wifi stupidity: "The signal level is low."
« on: June 06, 2006, 02:36:09 pm »
Is there any kind of workaround for this signal strength too low problem in cacko? I saw something in another post that appeared similar, only it was for opie- something to do with the zaurus expecting smaller length packets?

I have a dlink dcf 660W and this happens within minutes of getting online, which is pretty frustrating. At the moment it has locked up my zaurus completely, so I can't even tell you what dmesg says about it.

Aargh
