Angstrom & OpenZaurus / New Hentges Rom Release Candidate
« on: July 30, 2005, 10:19:52 pm »
CoreDump and everyone involved in the Hentges/C1000 release, thank you, thank you!
I hadn't touched my c1000 in weeks before this release.
How can I donate to you guys directly?

Kphone/pi installed a new tab that has a question mark in it, and i consistantly get 'error initalizing folder' and about a 10 second pause every so often since installing it. How can I move it to Applications and get rid of that folder? It wasn't under Launcher.

Also I read CoreDump's post about 'On' not doing anything, it appears to work for me? But i do get the non-existant VT ocassionally with a blinking cursor, and if I'm not networked I have to turn it entirely off. Is there a fix for this?

I'd also like to dualboot with pdaXrom, is that possible?

Thanks!

So I just got my c1000, and thanks to TriSOFT's wonderful help I was able to flash it, but now I'm having problems where I can't add feeds. I installed aqtpkg to hopefully fix it, but it just says 'please wait' after rotating my screen, then dumps me back out to to the manager.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Thank you Trisoft! But I'm curious about:

How to: Download the ZIP-file, unzip it and copy into the "Backup_Files" directory of a CF or SD memory card (at least 32 MB). Put the card in the Zaurus, select "Settings", start "Backup Restore" and start "Restore".

Can someone walk me thru these steps when I'm still in Japanese?

Thanks

Meshuga,

how about the downloads on SL-C1000 download page ?

Not listed there, but actually in the download area
is the latest backup set with the actual Ko/PI
applications:
SL-C1000 backup set 05/27/2005

Have fun

Thanks everyone for the responses.
So does SDIO work?
Nobody finds the 64megs of ram to be limiting, even if they got, say, a mp3, ssh and webbrowsing open?

Jenn,

Hang in there, you should be able to get your problems (at least most, if not all) solved with the help of the group here...REALLY...

However, for that you should start a new thread, instead of hijacking this one....

BTW, you're not going to get PocketPC on a Z....but you should be able to sync with a PC...

In the meantime....

As for PIM, remember the C3000 is a Japan market unit, never intended for use outside of Japan...but there are several other very good options....either the free Ka/Pi apps or theKompany's, tkcAddressbook and/or tkcCalendar apps...

NOW, back to this thread, C1K vs C3K....

Meshuga,

You can't go wrong with either one, but if you can afford it, go for the C3K.

If not, get the C1K. Both are very GOOD units....

I've had C760, then C860, and now C3000 and the C3000 is GREAT!

Just put Cacko3K beta 1 ROM on mine and it's superb (and it's just the beta!)!

Also, recently put X/Qt/Debian on my C3000 and it works really well...like having 2 Z's at once...since you can switch back and forth between Sharp Qtopia environment and X/Qt/Debian without rebooting!

HTH,

Mark

Hi Jason,

I am a recent owner of the SLC3000, and a complete novice when it comes to the Linux OS, although very familiar with the windows pocket pc environment.  In particular, I need to be able to synchronize my outlook contacts, calendar, tasks and notes to this unit.  First the PIM program on this unit is really poor.  Second, I have yet to really be able to successfully synchronize.  I either get a message stating there's an incorrect value and the synchronization stops, or, most recently and more often, I seem to get a PC link error when attempting to synchronize -- and when checking in the device manager of the host computer, I no longer see either driver for the unit, even though I know I installed them both -- because I was able to communicate at one time previously in order to synchronize.
You mentioned something about the OZ 3.53 image file.  What is this and does this fix my problem?  Also, I am not able to use my Socket Low Power WLAN CF wireless card because I can't seem to get the unit to recognize the card.  Could you possibly help me with all this?  I'm frustrated by it all -- so much so, that I'm thinking seriously that if I can't get my issues with this unit resolved, then I will either return to using my IPAQ 4705 pocket pc or try to find a way of reformating or repartitioning the SLC3000 and loading the pocket pc operating system in the Sharp unit so I can instead use the PPC environment and sync using active sync.
Thanks.
Jenn

I got a friend in Japan and ability to purchase either handheld.
I really like the blackness and the 128megs of ram of the c1000.
But, of course, the 4gb hdd is enticing.

Has anyone found 64megs to be a limitation? I remember on my sl-5500 I used to always run out of memory so a little concerned by soo little.

I can always use a solid state 2gb SD card, since no SDIO support exists correct?
But then it'd be much much slower then a real hdd...

I'd like opinions from some owners, especially if anyone has both, and what their thoughts are.
I will be using ssh and opera the most, plus I'd like to do VoIP since I recently got employed at a VoIP company, mainly getting connectivity from WiFi or Bluetooth.

If I get a c3000, anyone wanna sell me a black casing?

Thanks in advance

Have a look at www.kakaku.com they offer the best prices on almost anything

Here is the link for the SL-C1000

Most of the shops listed here are internet shops, but kahm's suggested Naniwadenki, comes in at number 6 at 40,425 yen (only 125 yen above the best price) and they have units in stock (if you friend is in Osaka) or can deliver if in other places.

Hope this helps

Thanks - the kakau.com link is where we found Naniwadenki in the first place. I thought they were in more places than just Osaka, but I checked their web-page, and it doesn't seem like it.

Nice to see that the price has dropped in the last month or so. $475CAN for a C1000 is pretty good!

Now I'm back on the fence weather to get a c1000 or a c3000. I'm gunna post in the hardware forum about the reliability of the hdd.
Thanks everyone for your help! I'll pass it to her and hopefully get a device within the next 2 weeks.

My friends in Japan and said she's willing to pick me up a Zaurus sl-c1000.
I don't want to have to send her all over the country, so anyone have recent experiences they want to share, or know of places that sell it? (Names, perferably)

Thanks in advance.

I'm interested in getting a Zaurus c860. I had a 5500, thought I could make due with an iPAQ h5550. Had it less then 2 weeks, and I'm already hating it. Shouldn't of even strayed.

So if anyone has any c8x00 they wanna sell, drop me a note.

Trying to restore my 5500 back to a factory state, using a CF i used for OZ flashes no problem, and it doesn\'t seem to want to go. It\'ll error about \'/dev/mtdblock1\' not being formatted, so i do that, then goto reboot, and it cant, so i unplug it, and while the charge light comes on, it\'ll never power back up...
any ideas?

Sharp ROMs / restoring back to factory defaults from openzaurus
« on: May 31, 2004, 06:58:49 pm »
so the time has come to where i must part with my zaurus.
so i wanted to remove oZ and throw on the default rom for whoever buys it, so i copied over ospack to my CF, removed initrd.bin and zImage, and did the 3 finger salute to flash my 5500d. flashed fine, in rebooting, a fsck errors appears. \'/dev/mtdblock1\' doesnt exist, so it cant fsck, so that \'type in root pass or hit ctrl-d for maintance\' window pops up, then when i hit enter i\'m an a
(Repair FS) # #

prompt, and have no idea howto fix this. any ideas?

thanks.
