Ubuntu / Zubuntu On A 4gb Transcend Sd Card
« on: August 21, 2009, 01:38:26 am »
I had the same experience with the same card.  Although the first time I tried it I did get to the multiboot screen, but never again.  I tried every combination of files systems and partitions and always get the same error you get.

A few thoughts

Have you run pccardctl ident to see what your system is seeing?

Also what is ifconfig showing?  Your card may not be eth0 and this will show you that.
Netstat -rn  can also be helpful in seeing if you are routed

Since you can get the lights up on your card it looks to me like a config issue and I would try static instead of dhcp to see if that is the problem.

Steps for Static IP
modprobe pxa2xx_cs
ifconfig eth0 up
ifconfig eth0 xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx broadcast xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx netmask xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
route add default gw xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx eth0

You can find the numbers for the x inputs on a machine on your network with

ifconfig -a or ipconfig /all     depending on OS
netstat -rn

This is just my method and others may have better methods.

Good luck

Ubuntu / Zubuntu Wifi/internet

This is how I setup my prism chip cf card to work in zubuntu RC1 OmegaMoon 8.04

Zubnutu wifi

lsmod and see if pxa2xx_cs is loaded. this module controls the CF slot

if not loaded then modprobe pxa2xx_cs
then iwconfig should return wlan0, if nothing is returned, do a modprobe hostap_cs if module is not present in lsmod
Try running "dmesg | tail" to see if your CF is recognized now.

edit etc/modules and add to file

pxa2xx_cs
hostap_cs

create file in etc/modprobe.d/blacklist_hostap

 blacklist orinoco_plx
 blacklist orinoco_cs
 blacklist orinoco_pci
 blacklist hermes

remove /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

edit /etc/network/interfaces

allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet static
wireless_essid xxxxxxxxxx
wireless_mode managed
wireless_key s:xxxxxxxxxx
address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
gateway xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
netmask 255.255.255.0

if you are using static ips, then you will need to edit /etc/resolv.conf
and add your dns server addresses in this format:
nameserver 208.67.222.222
nameserver 208.67.220.220

ensure dhcp is running properly by changing the 102 and 103 entries for dhcp in /etc/passwd to 0

reboot

open terminal
ifup wlan0

This is what I came up with by reading every post.  Once working I did a fresh install and this worked for me. YMMV

hostap_cs
I went with this module and blacklisted
orinoco
hermes

I did notice that on my /etc/modules file hostap_cs was commented out
#hostap_cs,
so that may have cause me some problems.  I am running the RC 1 candidate from cortez omegamoon site with the zubuntu-desktop-jaunty-rootfs_feb.2009-rev-armel on top of that.  I tried the RC4 but it froze my cursor and keyboard so went back.  This is on Akita.

I have been getting my but kicked for several days and it is nice to relearn a lot of this.  I have had wireless network running once but lost it on next boot.  The one time it worked after I manually put in the essid and when i looked at iwconfig after something appended a "p" at the end of the essid???  I want to thank cortez and everyone else or I would not have gotten this far.

I got a message from Qtech (the makers of speaq).  They have never tried sipphone, but are going to look into some of the issues raised here.

I'll give it a go and see what happens, mind you I am running cacko1.23 so there's a good change it might break!
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=155584\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I loaded it on a stock sharp rom setup on c1000 and I got an error on install.  But I went foward with it anyway. The program ran but fast at first, but then had lag.  I was able to setup and registar at sipphone, but it keeps losing registration and then getting it back.  I did get my phone to ring but had no sound or voice on the call.

So perhaps it is sipphone.

The site said it was tested on a sl5600.  As such the screen defaults to portrait.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=155615\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Well, I tested it on my 5600, 760 and my 1000.  I had no problems making 2 calls that went thru fine on both my 760/1000, but when I used my 5600, the person on the other end had a hard time hearing me.  I do have the problem where it keeps loosing the registration, but it quickly re-registers & I was able to receive a call as well.   Which works much better than kphone.  It's nice to finally have a client that works w/ sipphone.  Thanks for the info.  Hopefully the final product fixes the little bugs found so far.  I'd pay for a final version but for now, I'll keep testing it.  Take care.

Well that is hopefull that you got it to work.
I have make Qtech aware of this thread and posted a couple of the problems I had in their forum.
The registration issue is also occuring on the Win Mobile application.

Thanks

I came accross this last week and wondered if anyone else had tried it?

http://www.qtechinc.com/speaq.htm

It is in the alpha stage, but I loaded it on collie with 3.10 sharp rom.  I was able to connect with sipphone and call a pots landline.  It is not designed to run a sl5500 due to slow processor.

I am going to load it on my C1000 and give it a spin.

Thanks all... for the future searchers.  The only way I could get to the service menu was
battery out
hold down D & M while plugging in power
Follow directions from Trisoft.de   Pretty much what InSearchOf said

I am back up to a basic sharp rom and will try out the various flavors including beta3

ok... do this... hold down OK... put the battery in...

If that doesnt work... boot into pdaxrom... do a reboot... but hold down ok once it says rebooting... it will prolly start scrolling a whole bunch of repeating characters... ignore it... then the screen goes black it will bring up the maintance menu...

Late
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=147600\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

And make sure you're only pressing OK, not OK + one of the arrow keys.

I followed the above, specifically a reboot while holding down "OK"
That brout up the pdaXrom emergency boot 3.00 Nikita with a command prompt.
I then "cd/mnt/card"

Have not found where to go or what to do at this point.

...Sometimes feel like switching to a MAC, but then my brain would not get this workout.

Well, back to the beginning.
How does one get pdaXrom to shutdown completely.

I loaded the beta3 files on a fat format sd card

The OK key has no effect on the startup. pdaXrom boots

I left the battery out all night, the moment I put the battery in pdaXrom starts booting.

Things I have tried...
Hold the C+D before putting the battery in- this gives me a blinking power light and nothing else seems to happen no matter what button or key I hold down

Hold the Fn and C+D before putting the battery in- pdaXrom does not boot, but nothing else seems to happen, no matter what button or key.  It just does not power up until I hard reset and then pdaXrom boots before I can even turn the Z over.

I not sure if I can even nand restore, but that may be the next attempt.

Ideas?

If you like pdaXrom, I'd recommend trying Beta 3 instead of r121, as it works much better out of the box. The GUI networking and other config stuff works in Beta 3 as well.

Ok all,
I have downloaded the 1.1.0beta3...
Everything is there, however I am not sure about uBoot.  I did not find it on the pdaX org site.   Did find Das U-boot-1.1.6. source on sourceforge.  Where is this hiding?

Thanks

I use a Haicom 303 series and it worked fine.  I was using qpeGPS on the sharp rom 3.10.  Have not tried it in pdaXrom.

Here is a link to a list of units that work with qpeGPS...http://qpegps.sourceforge.net/gps_units.html

I think I understand...
I do know how to do a Nand Restore.  What I was attempting was to load Cacko which I had on my SD card.  I also thought about re-loading pdaXrom as the one that came loaded had some broken parts ( usb tool).  But as I cannot get pdaXrom to completely shutdown I can see now that Nand Restore is my only option.

I have the file "c1000-2005-03-24-16-00.zip" and a 1 gig SD card.  And the directions from the TriSoft Quickstart guide.

I basically wanted to see how everything works stock as to get my networking stuff to work I had to test everything through the shell and never did get online (my last hangup is it did not like my wep key in the wlan0.up script.  Just want to play with my new toy without doing everything from the shell.

Thanks for you quick response... and help.
