Removing Pdaxrom
« on: November 29, 2006, 12:51:20 pm »
Just bought a C1000 on ebay and it has pdaXrom installed (Kathrin).  I wanted to look at putting it back to the origional state, but cannot get pdaXrom to stop.

Used the standard shutdown now -h, Removed battery, hit reset, and no matter what when I put the battery back in it starts booting into pdaXrom.
The power button sends it into suspend, but not shutdown.
"Shutdown now -h" powers down the system, but it reboots in about 3 seconds.

Anyone else experienced this and found a solution?

PS. As a side note I downloaded the pdaXrom Live X86.iso to learn more about pdaXrom on my laptop.  I had the same problem getting it to quit.  Had to hold the power button down and when I started back up had some HD corruption... interesting

Wait wait wait... you want the Orignal Sharp Rom (Factory) to boot?

There is no Hard encoded version of the Sharp rom that can be restored by taking battery out... the ROM inside of the Z is non-volatile... meaning it doesnt need a charge to retain its data...

To accomplish what you are looking to do you will need a CF or SD card... let me know first if you have one of these before I go on ranting about how to go about doing a NAND restore :-)

I think I understand...
I do know how to do a Nand Restore.  What I was attempting was to load Cacko which I had on my SD card.  I also thought about re-loading pdaXrom as the one that came loaded had some broken parts ( usb tool).  But as I cannot get pdaXrom to completely shutdown I can see now that Nand Restore is my only option.

I have the file "c1000-2005-03-24-16-00.zip" and a 1 gig SD card.  And the directions from the TriSoft Quickstart guide.

I basically wanted to see how everything works stock as to get my networking stuff to work I had to test everything through the shell and never did get online (my last hangup is it did not like my wep key in the wlan0.up script.  Just want to play with my new toy without doing everything from the shell.

Thanks for you quick response... and help.

If you like pdaXrom, I'd recommend trying Beta 3 instead of r121, as it works much better out of the box. The GUI networking and other config stuff works in Beta 3 as well.

You may want to note that in order to do the restore you probably need to rename the backup file SYSC100.dbk.

If you have to rename the file you may have the wrong Nand for a different device...

Conics and TriSoft have the correct filename when the zip is extracted

But like Capn said... if you want to start off with pdaxrom and get your feet wet... try beta3 first

Ok all,
I have downloaded the 1.1.0beta3...
Everything is there, however I am not sure about uBoot.  I did not find it on the pdaX org site.   Did find Das U-boot-1.1.6. source on sourceforge.  Where is this hiding?

Thanks

I would assume that the "hassle" is installing, as people seem to have had trouble with it. I have had no problems with it myself, however.

try to install it on a C3000
anyway, I do intend to make it work on the C3000 eventually and whack kexec into it as well somewhere along the lines.... so I will be able to dual boot beta3 (stable system) and r121 (beta testing and dev)

Well, back to the beginning.
How does one get pdaXrom to shutdown completely.

I loaded the beta3 files on a fat format sd card

The OK key has no effect on the startup. pdaXrom boots

I left the battery out all night, the moment I put the battery in pdaXrom starts booting.

Things I have tried...
Hold the C+D before putting the battery in- this gives me a blinking power light and nothing else seems to happen no matter what button or key I hold down

Hold the Fn and C+D before putting the battery in- pdaXrom does not boot, but nothing else seems to happen, no matter what button or key.  It just does not power up until I hard reset and then pdaXrom boots before I can even turn the Z over.

I not sure if I can even nand restore, but that may be the next attempt.

Ideas?

ok... do this... hold down OK... put the battery in...

If that doesnt work... boot into pdaxrom... do a reboot... but hold down ok once it says rebooting... it will prolly start scrolling a whole bunch of repeating characters... ignore it... then the screen goes black it will bring up the maintance menu...
