SIMpad forum / Bootloader Problem: No Reaction

Someone in #handhelds.org kindly told me that flow control (both hardware and software) needs to be disabled in minicom, or you won't be able to type.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / The Final Wm And De Thread
« on: December 25, 2005, 11:17:57 pm »
Personally I've been using IceWM for quite some time now, and it works for me. ZDevil: I don't see how you can find the panel too small, the way I have it setup, it's just as large as Matchbox.
I'm satisfied with the speed, though I don't have any reference to compare it to. It does feel at least as responsive as Matchbox to me. I'm not using any desktop with it though.
I also don't see how it wouldn't be "right for a pda". The only thing it really adds to Matchbox is a taskbar, there's nothing to get in the way otherwise.
I've attached 2 screenshots of how I have it set up. I've done some work on theming it pdaxrom-like, I don't really remember how much I've done and how much was default, but if there's an interest I'm willing to share it as a theme file.

As for my other experiences, I tried fluxbox, but it's just too small. Also, the extensive use of menus doesn't really work for me on a PDA. I've tried XFCE as well, but had some color issues. I might try again.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Open1x / Xsupplicant
« on: September 17, 2005, 10:53:37 am »
I too have tried to compile Xsupplicant, and failed. I'm getting a bunch of
cardif/linux/cardif_linux_rtnetlink.c:1182: error: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type errors, which is probably what you are getting as well.
I've been looking for an alternative, and I may have found one: wpa_supplicant. It supports the same authentication methods, though I'm not sure if it supports authentication without actually using WPA (like I need for a network I want to connect to: it uses authentication but WEP encryption). I will try it to find out. WPA-supplicant is available from the pdaxrom feeds, specifically here

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Best Pdaxrom Set Up?

I like IceWM a lot. I've themed it to look somewhat like the pdaXrom Matchbox theme. I'll post a screenshot later.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Gaim Without 2, Gnumeric Without 1
« on: July 31, 2005, 08:03:48 am »
Well, I checked on my SL-C860 running PdaXrom, I have no such problems. I can type "2" and "1" (or any other number) in Gaim and Gnumeric without problems. Did you do anything special with your keymap?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Gaim Without 2, Gnumeric Without 1
« on: July 29, 2005, 07:12:35 am »
I don't use Gnumeric, I do use Gaim. I haven't noticed this behaviour, but I honestly don't remember the last time I typed "2" in Gaim
I'll check tonight and post my findings.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Nes Emulator With 5500 - Collie
« on: July 28, 2005, 03:31:16 am »
If you know how to compile, try building fceu from source (available at http://pdaxrom.theinternet.nl/fceu/ ). The binary on there was compiled using the standard PdaXrom SDK, so I'm not sure if it will run on the 5500.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Nes Emulator On Pdaxrom

How is the performance? I have ported fceu to pdaxrom, if anyone feels like comparing, check it out: http://pdaxrom.theinternet.nl/fceu/

I tried an older version a while ago, and if I remember correctly, the matchbox battery applet worked fine in XFCE.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Compiled Nes Emulator: Infones

I wonder what ever  happened to FCE Ultra... I had a port of that on my SL-5500 (running in Opie, but via FB). It had much better speeds, it actually made NES games enjoyable

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Searching Windowmanager For Pdaxrom...
« on: April 05, 2005, 09:16:47 am »
I had similar problems (no right-click). Turns out it was vdesk causing it, somehow it takes focus of a button or something. Didn't have time to find a workaround.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Alternative Mp3 Player For Pdaxrom
« on: January 30, 2005, 12:42:41 pm »
Actually, I really dislike xmms on my Z (C680). Especially the playlist being detached from the main player (and particularly, keyboard-wise) makes it difficult to control. Since they're 2 different windows, they both respond differently to the same keys. I have not yet found a key to browse through the xmms windows, but this is what I mean: if you press up/down, in the main window it activates volume control, in the playlist it scrolls through the songs... but to focus the other window, it needs clicks, and in combination with the tiny buttons.. well... you know. So a better player would have player and playlist integrated in one window, in my opinion. I've never really felt these problems on my desktop system, but on the Zaurus they are starting to get annoying

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Applications That Do Not Work
« on: January 19, 2005, 03:47:47 pm »
As for Abiword, I can assure you the stable package works for 1.0.5 -- maybe you need to intsall the fonts package? I have used it on 1.0.5 and it worked fine for me, fonts included.
All your other problems seem like they can be solved without too much work, if you have basic linux skills. For example, if you insert your ethernet card, type dmesg and look at the messages, it should say whether or not it loads a driver for it, or report any problems encountered. From there on you can go on, analyising the problem.

If you need any realtime assistance, drop by on irc.freenode.net, #cacko, and I (and others) will be glad to help you troubleshoot.
pgas is right though, RC8 is much nicer. I'm not sure what user settings you are referring to, but most of it can be backed up and put back after reflashing, which is preferred over just upgrading the packages, though that should work as well.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Tomtom Go Linux
« on: January 17, 2005, 06:45:24 pm »
If someone is able to "hack" into his/her TomTom Go I can imagine it would be possible to rip the navigation software off of it and get it running on the Zaurus fairly easily. However, I doubt it would be legal, and you'll have TomTom over you in no time if you attempt to put it online.

It could just be a matter of chmod'ing the htdocs link to the appropriate settings. But you should be able to edit httpd.conf, can you give any more details about what happens when you edit it? What does VI say, and is ZEditor telling you anything? Might just be a permissions thing as well (perhaps httpd.conf is a link too?).
