For Sale / Wanted / For Sale: C760 W/ Accessories
« on: November 05, 2006, 11:07:00 pm »
I have a Zaurus SL C-760 for sale with several accessories.  I purchased this Z several months ago with the hope that I could make it work with the bluetooth connection on my Sprint phone.  Unfortunately, I cannot... so I'm sticking with my Treo for now.

The Zaurus is in very good shape.  It has a couple of small scratches on the front right corner and one speck of "dust" under the screen.  Other than that, it's in nearly perfect condition.

The Zaurus comes with the original manuals, CD, and packaging along with the USB sync cable, AC adapter, and hand strap.  It has both the EA-BL08 and EA-BL06 batteries along with the battery covers for both.  In addition, I have the following accessories:

* GeoWave 802.11b CF card (GW-CF110)
* Socket Bluetooth CF card (Rev. F)
* Ambicom EZJack CF 56K modem
* GrinderGear "Scout" case (black... rugged cases for hiking and stuff)
* PalmPal case

I would prefer payment by Paypal.  My eBay ID is ccrandal (+41/100% rating) and my Paypal ID is ccrandall77@yahoo.com... look me up if you want to know if I'm reputable or not.  Please send me a private message to discuss price if you are interested.  I will keep this Zaurus up for sale here until next Sunday (11/12) at which time I'll be auctioning it on eBay if it's unsold.

I will be happy to provide additional pictures of the item upon request.

Thank you
Curt

Sharp ROMs / Bluetooth Dial-up With A Sprint Treo 650
« on: August 08, 2006, 05:18:21 pm »

I do bluetooth dialup with my Palm T5 and my laptop to my Treo 650 with Sprint. And it works great, Note that the treo 650 does NOTHING with the laptop or T5 connect, as the treo is still usable as a PDA during the connection, (only phone and The Treos access to data are blocked at this time)

Also It took alot of trial and error even before I got my Palm T5 to connect to the Treo 650 for dial-up. I do remember that i had to download a updated profile for the T5 to connect to the Treo 650 as well.

Good luck getting it to work as Blue-tooth is a major pain.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Still no luck getting this to work.  I had no problems on the UX-50, so I was certain it'd work on the Zaurus... my old GSM phones connected easily.

I did try to redo everything and I made a little tweak this time:

1.) Turned on DUN on the Treo
2.) Went to the Network Applet on the Zaurus, in the Bluetooth tab I searched for the Treo
3.) When the Treo was found, the Treo displayed the dialog box for me to enter the pin for the Zaurus in... I entered 1234 and then the Zaurus showed up in my Trusted Devices list.
4.) Set up parameters in the Network tab:
Username: qnc
Password: qnc
Phone: #777
Dial Using: Tone
These parameters work fine on the UX-50
5.) Set up the modem parameters:
BT device: /dev/rfcomm0
Init String: ATZ (also tried a blank string)
Speed: 115200 (tried lower values too)
Time out: 5 and 15
6.) Left all other parameters alone.

When trying to connect, nothing happens.

Sharp ROMs / Bluetooth Dial-up With A Sprint Treo 650
« on: July 31, 2006, 11:34:52 pm »
I was able to get an internet connection from my Sprint Treo 650 to my old Clie UX-50, but I cannot do the same with the Zaurus.  I'm hoping someone here can help.

I am using a Zaurus SL C-760 with Socket Bluetooth Rev F card and running Cacko 1.23.  Initially, I had my Treo set so that DUN was turned off.  That's the only way I could get the Zaurus to recognize the Treo.  In the Network Applet, I successfully located the Treo, set up the user/pass as qnc/qnc, and set it to dial #777.  On the Treo I turned DUN on, but nothing happens when I try to initiate a dialup connection.  With the DUN turned off on the Treo, the bluetooth symbol on the Treo lights up, but still nothing.

I'm not sure what else to try.  Any ideas?

Thanks
Curt

I'd like to get a Zaurus C series to use with an EVDO phone from Sprint.  Can I get EVDO speed (400-600kbps) using bluetooth DUN profile on a Zaurus?  I'm just messing around with this on a Clie UX and it's limited to 115200bps.

Thanks

Security and Networking / Sending Sms With A Samsung Mma-900
« on: June 21, 2006, 02:05:57 am »
I currently own a Treo650 and while it's an awesome phone, I really want a small flip phone.  My wife's Samsung MMA-900 is really nice (except the battery life blows).  I'd like to steal her phone and stick her with the MMA-920.

However, if I dump the Treo I won't have a decent keyboard for sending SMS messages which I do frequently.  I also would like something mobile I can easily browse the web on at hotspots.  I just picked up a UX-50, but sadly the phone drivers are for GSM phones only.  Since I'm with Sprint, that's a deal killer.

Back when I was with Cingular (those evil bastards!!) I used both the UX-50 and a Zaurus C-760 to send SMS all the time with my Sony Ericsson T610 and Nokia 6620 phones.  The Clie's SMS utility was very nice while the Zaurus' utility was cmd line only and kinda clunky, but still usable.

So my question is, before I go and plunk down a nice chunk of change on another C series Zaurus (looking at a C3100 right now), does anyone know if SMS with a Samsung MMA-900 is possible??  I didn't think the SMS util for the Zaurus really cared what phone it was connecting to as long as it was successfully paired, but I just want to make sure.  I guess if I can't get a Zaurus to work for this purpose, I'm going to have to upgrade to a Treo700p.

Thanks
Curt

For Sale / Wanted / Possible Trade: New Treo 650 For Clamshell Pda
« on: June 05, 2006, 11:42:21 pm »
I recently busted my Treo 650 and with my protection plan I should receive a brand new unit.  I'm not at this point prepared to go ahead with a trade, but I'm interested to see if there's anyone here that'd be interested in trading their clamshell PDA (either a Clie UX-50 if anyone has one here or a C series Zaurus).

What I have is the Treo, a dock, Timbuk2 Navy case, car charger, and car window mount (suction cup).  If someone were interested in trading a Clie UX-50, I would also have a 128MB SD card to throw in.

If anyone is interested in such a trade, please send me a private message so we can discuss it further.

Thanks
Curt

General Discussion / Looking To Return To The Zaurus
« on: May 30, 2006, 08:53:04 pm »
After getting screwed by Cingular for a $1400 data transfer I never made.  I decided it was easier to just switch carriers and get a Treo650 and an unlimited data plan.  As a result, I sold my C760.

Even though I really like the Treo, there are too many times I wish I had a smaller phone.  I'd also like to upgrade to EVDO data service.  So, I'm looking to move over to a Samsung A-900.  I bought one for my fiancee and outside of the poor battery life, I really like the phone.

Since I'll be giving up all the smartphone features I've been used to, I'm looking to go back to either a Zaurus or a Clie UX.  The most important feature I'm looking for is the ability to use the keyboard to send SMS messages.  I'm also interested in a reliable syncing method to my Mac.

A year ago when I had my Z, I used a SMS utility that while it worked, it did not have a GUI and it took a little bit to get it ready to go each time.  Is there now a good utlility for sending SMS with a GUI that works on the clamshell series of Zaurii?

I also used ZMacSync and while it was OK, it wasn't quite what I was hoping for.  Can anyone clue me in on how far Mac syncing methods have come lately?

Thanks
Curt

For Sale / Wanted / C760 For Sale W/ Extras
« on: May 22, 2005, 09:15:48 pm »
I was using my C760 with my Cingular data service.  However, since Cingular screwed me for $1500 over a bogus data transfer, I dumped them and went with Sprint.  With Sprint, I now have a Treo 650 with unlimited data, but no ability to use it as a bluetooth modem with the Zaurus.

Since my Zaurus is now gathering dust and I want to start building a Mac Mini media center, I am reluctantly going to part with it.

The C760 is in great shape, no scratches, no blemishes.  It also comes with the orginial packaging and CDs.  Also included is:

Socket Bluetooth CF card (Rev. F)
Ambicom WL1100C-CF 802.11b card
512MB EDGE Digital Media CF card
Lexar 128MB SD card
Grinder Gear Scout case (Black)
Body Glove PDA case (Black)

I can email pictures of this item upon request.  It'll be available for sale here for 1 week.  Afterwards, I'll be putting it up for auction on eBay.

I'd like $450 and I will include shipping if it's within the Continental US.  If interested, please IM me.

Sharp ROMs / The "on" Button Doesn't Work Anymore!
« on: March 19, 2005, 02:47:50 pm »
Ah, I couldn't resist installing ztailgunner one more time.  'Q' works this time to kill the app.  Maybe something odd happened last time I installed it.  Who knows??

I'd love to give reproducable steps, but I installed so much at once, I'm not sure which IPK caused my issue... and it may not have been a single IPK but a combo of 2.

Seems like the ones I had the most problems with where the ztailgunner and interstellar-flames-demo.  With ztailgunner, I couldn't figure out how to close the application.  The Cancel button wouldn't kill it.  I tried doing a `ps -eaf` to kill it the hard way, but I didn't see it listed at the time.  So, I just uninstalled it.

The interstellar-flames-demo didn't want to run for me in landscape mode even when I turned off the option to run as maginfied.  It was after uninstalling this application that my problems with the "On" button started, but I performed other install/uninstall ops around the same time so I can't say this is the one for sure.

I'd love to dig into the source and fix stuff as I run into bugs, but I don't have time for that.  I'll submit bug reports as I run into them, but now that I have a working system I don't think I'll try some of these apps out again to come up with more bug details.

I liked the earlier idea of marking which apps are meant for the SL5xxx and the SLCxxx devices.  I guess you'd have to tweak the install application to include these extra fields, though.

I have a C760 running Cacko 1.22 that I just recently installed.  I was using the Cacko feed to install a bunch of software such as binutils, gaim, zsafe, kismet, etc.  A day later, I installed more stuff like gnu tar, and some other apps.

I got bored quickly, so then I loaded Apache and cvs.  Everything was going great so far.  Then, I decided to load some games... big mistake.  I loaded ztailgunner, qpe-asteroids, interstellar flame, solitare, crimson fields.  While doing this, I installed the network monitor applet and frodo/frodogui.

Some of the games didn't work at all. Ztailgunner wouldn't turn off, even hitting the "on" button didn't work since the sound kept playing.  Doom didn't even show up after install.  Frodo also wouldn't stop.  I did turn off the magnified view for many of these apps too.

So, I started uninstalling things that didn't work right.  Well, now when I hit the "on" button to go into suspend mode, I cannot wake up again.  The "on" button is totally being ignored.  The only way to turn it back on again is to pull the battery and reboot.

Does anyone know what's going on here.  Is there a way from the cmd line I can fix this?

I was under the assumption, and probably a false assumption at that, that applications in the Cacko feed would probably work on the Cacko ROM.  That apparently isn't exactly the case... or maybe some apps just need some tweaks to run properly.  Whatever the deal is, is there somewhere that lists the reliability of certain apps in the feed.  If not, would it be difficult to set up an area with user feedback for these apps so we can rate them, share tips, etc.

I suppose I could stop being lazy and go to each apps homepage, but I think it'd be cool to have a centralized place for this type of info... maybe there is and I'm just ignorant to it.  It'd also be very cool if the installation tool had a column for a rating so you could see it just before you download.

Thanks
Curt

I had an accident while installing Zmacsync.  Now my / folder has the wrong ownerships and as a result I cannot get into the Z with the zaurus account.  Fortunately, I can ssh in as root to fix things.  If someone could, would you please print the results of `ls -l /` if you are running Cacko 1.22.

Thanks

Mac Issues / Ann: Zmacsync-1.5 Available

I did this too a while back.

Not sure about restoring (I just reinstalled cacko rom), but you don't need the zmacsync ipk.

Just install the dtm2xml ipk and you'll be fine.

The zmacsync ipk is just a combination of dtm2xml and the ssh server.  Cacko 1.22 already has the ssh component.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=70277\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I can't restore until I get home since I left my AC adapter there, and I'd rather not do that since the filesystem is still intact.  I just need to change the perms on all the files under /.

I did see that FAQ on just installing dtm2xml when I went to the Dsitri.de site.  I can't see how that would've caused this problem, though, but it's good to know that tidbit when I try this again.

I probably should've just done the backup like they suggested, eh?
