The "on" Button Doesn't Work Anymore!
« on: March 16, 2005, 02:14:29 pm »
I have a C760 running Cacko 1.22 that I just recently installed.  I was using the Cacko feed to install a bunch of software such as binutils, gaim, zsafe, kismet, etc.  A day later, I installed more stuff like gnu tar, and some other apps.

I got bored quickly, so then I loaded Apache and cvs.  Everything was going great so far.  Then, I decided to load some games... big mistake.  I loaded ztailgunner, qpe-asteroids, interstellar flame, solitare, crimson fields.  While doing this, I installed the network monitor applet and frodo/frodogui.

Some of the games didn't work at all. Ztailgunner wouldn't turn off, even hitting the "on" button didn't work since the sound kept playing.  Doom didn't even show up after install.  Frodo also wouldn't stop.  I did turn off the magnified view for many of these apps too.

So, I started uninstalling things that didn't work right.  Well, now when I hit the "on" button to go into suspend mode, I cannot wake up again.  The "on" button is totally being ignored.  The only way to turn it back on again is to pull the battery and reboot.

Does anyone know what's going on here.  Is there a way from the cmd line I can fix this?

I was under the assumption, and probably a false assumption at that, that applications in the Cacko feed would probably work on the Cacko ROM.  That apparently isn't exactly the case... or maybe some apps just need some tweaks to run properly.  Whatever the deal is, is there somewhere that lists the reliability of certain apps in the feed.  If not, would it be difficult to set up an area with user feedback for these apps so we can rate them, share tips, etc.

I suppose I could stop being lazy and go to each apps homepage, but I think it'd be cool to have a centralized place for this type of info... maybe there is and I'm just ignorant to it.  It'd also be very cool if the installation tool had a column for a rating so you could see it just before you download.

Thanks
Curt

Not all the applications from cacko are for all the zaurus models. I have cacko 1.22a when i tried the irda applet from cacko homepage on my c700, it just stop showing the characters, the programms never loads, so i just reload the cacko rom again.

I think that they need to write for what zaurus model is the program

There are about 300 packages in the Cacko feed.  I have installed all of them but the Japanese packages on my system.  Most of them work well.  Others work as well as they did from the original releaser of the package.  I have not had time to fix each package.  If you do please either test and file a detailed bug report or fix the package and upload it to the feed.

As far as this installing apps preventing resuming I would love to have reproducible steps.  I have never had this problem.

The page you are looking for with details on each app is:

I'd love to give reproducable steps, but I installed so much at once, I'm not sure which IPK caused my issue... and it may not have been a single IPK but a combo of 2.

Seems like the ones I had the most problems with where the ztailgunner and interstellar-flames-demo.  With ztailgunner, I couldn't figure out how to close the application.  The Cancel button wouldn't kill it.  I tried doing a `ps -eaf` to kill it the hard way, but I didn't see it listed at the time.  So, I just uninstalled it.

The interstellar-flames-demo didn't want to run for me in landscape mode even when I turned off the option to run as maginfied.  It was after uninstalling this application that my problems with the "On" button started, but I performed other install/uninstall ops around the same time so I can't say this is the one for sure.

I'd love to dig into the source and fix stuff as I run into bugs, but I don't have time for that.  I'll submit bug reports as I run into them, but now that I have a working system I don't think I'll try some of these apps out again to come up with more bug details.

I liked the earlier idea of marking which apps are meant for the SL5xxx and the SLCxxx devices.  I guess you'd have to tweak the install application to include these extra fields, though.

Ah, I couldn't resist installing ztailgunner one more time.  'Q' works this time to kill the app.  Maybe something odd happened last time I installed it.  Who knows??
