If you want to have your Zaurus as an external device, you should setup Zaurus as the "Storage". Zaurus is automaticaly (I have no Windows but I hope so) mounted as an USB disk like digital cameras etc. PCLink is for ethernet via USB. Ethernet via USB is better, because you can work on connected Zaurus, but it is not so easy (on my Linux box).

Mplayer finish with:

vo_bvdd: couldn't open /home/zaurus/.dev_bvdd
Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device

/home/zaurus/.dev_bvdd exists. I followed your instructions, but I have no sudo command. So I executed 3 commands starting sudo as a root without sudo. Any idea where is the problem? Thank you.

I have two following problems with mounting SL-C3000 as a USB mass storage.

1) When I plug the cable into the Zaurus, "AlertUSBStarage" warning window is displayed. Then I have to click on "Yes" and "AlertUSBStorageConnection" warning is displayed. I click on "OK" and remove the cable. Than I plug the cable in again and Zaurus display "Comunicating..." screen and it is OK. But everytime I have to go through two warning windows and "plug in -> remove -> plug in cable again" way.

2) Sometimes is zaurus mounted as read-only. Well, it is not exactly mounted as read-only, mount command shows rw, but it is impossible to write to mounted Zaurus. I am not able to predicate when I could write to Zaurus and when not. And when Zaurus in "writable", Midnight Commander says "it is impossible to change file permissions" after every file.

One note for Fedora users. Zaurus is mounted as /dev/sda on my FC1 box.

Screen protector má 80x58 mm. S Elektronem člověk nikde moc Å¡těstí neudělá. Pro platby na internetu jsou nejjistější embosované karty, v mém případě VISA Classic.

Ad poorman: Screen protector je primo na tento modell, byt na delku je asi o tri ctvrte milimetru kratsi. Koupil jsem predtim vetsi screen protector v Kotve s tim, ze ho ustrihnu. Skutecne jsem ho ustrihl  a pak si objednal ten z Hong Kongu. Bylo to ostatne levnejsi, nez v Kotve. Co se dovozu tyce, necekame samozrejme o moc vic nez 1 objednavku mesicne.

ad BVer: Pisu tady o SL-C3000 a o pocesteni originalni SHARP ROM - i kdyz se vlastne o ROM nejedna. Cacko, pdaXrom ani OZ pro SL-C3000 zatim bohuzel neni.

Czech / Sl-c3000

Koupil jsem od Shirtpocket.co.uk, ale rozhodne je NEMUZU doporucit (mnozne cislo ostatne asi neni na miste, jedna se nejspise o jednoho chlapa, ktery to ma jako vedlejsak). Neodpovedel(i) mi na jediny e-mail, nebylo mozne se tam dovolat, dokonce ani na zaznamnik. Zadal jsem o vyznaceni naseho DIC na fakture, bylo to ignorovano. Nakonec jsem Zaura dostal den pred Vanocemi, ale uz jsem se loucil se vsemi nadejemi i s penezi.
Trisoft.de je pravdepodobne dobra volba. Cena je vyssi, ale mozna jen opticky. K cene kazdy pripocita postovne kuryrni sluzbou a z USA to bude drazsi. Stejne tak bude drazsi to tam poslat v pripade zavady. Navic se zda, ze hosi v Trisoftu tomu rozumi, maji celkem pouzitelny manual a asi se venuji i technicke podpore. Podle toho, co jsem cetl, je v tom Conics.net podstatne lepsi, ale Cechum a psum je tam asi opravdu vzstup zakazan :-(
Pak je tady jeste jedna varianta :-) Jsem ze Zaura docela nadseny a mam v umyslu, ze to nase firma bude dovazet a castecne pocestovat. Chteli jsme ale jeste par tydnu pockat, nez Maslovsky vyprodukuje Cacko nebo nez se pro SL-C3000 optimalizuje Debian.
Ad USB: Zatim jsem to neresil, ale nekde tady na forech byl odkaz na internetovy obchod. Mimochodem, na http://shop.brando.com.hk jsem za $12 vcetne postovneho koupil screen protector. Maji tam i ruzne USB hracicky.

Optimized mplayer shoud be here. It is not a ipk package and it don't work as an executable file. So I don't know what I have to do with it

Is it possible to play movies in VGA resolution? I have installed mplayer_0.90pre10_arm. Movie in 320x240 it plays OK (well, not O.K. but rotated in 90 degrees). Than I rotated an avi file in 90 degrees and scaled down to 640x480 (using mencoder). Zaurus plays the file very slowly (but the sound is in normal speed). I have changed fps to 15 but there was no effect.

Is the problem in nonoptimalized mplayer? Is it possible to make (using linux tools) VGA resolution movie playable?

Does it take longer to resume from suspend than it did on previous models, due to the hdd having to be remounted each time?

Has anyone seen or created a list of key combos it takes to create them? For instance in coding I need the backtick ( ` ) character, but don't see it on the keyboard. And of course the { } \ ^ ~ and ! are also vital to coding. Some I see, others I don't...

I have remapped keyboard to Czech keyboard layout using keyhelper.xml. You can see my keyhelper.xml  here.

Is the large port on the back for a serial cable connection, or is it just a diagnostics port?

Does an SD card (memory, not WiFi), stick out past the front of the unit when inserted?

No.

Does the unit feel substantial in the hand? This is somewhat subjective, but does it feel like quality, or something less?

It feels like quality but pivot joint of the display.

There is a factory reset button (press it with stylus) under the batery cover. The problem is you will have everything japanese after rebooting. The shop where you bought it should inform you how to get English conversion again. You can read Trisoft manual (www.trisoft.de) alternatively.

Well, I thought I was a clever boy but it seems I have to change my estimation of mysef :-(

After  unchecking "Display with magnified screen" is TextMaker in landscape mode and VGA. The problem was that I was looking for it inside TextMaker, not on the desktop.

The good news is I learned that pressing stylus for longer time works as right mouse button is some applications.

Many thanks for your help. I am going to order Zaurus + Linux Desktop bundle of TextMaker, now. I am looking forward I will be able to edit texts with same software on my Zaurus and on my Linux box.

Thank you. Do you know how old is you build? Trial version package has name TextMaker_2002.ipk. I think it means it is from year 2002 and there was no VGA-resolution Zaurus in that time, I think.

Hi,
I have boughr SL-C3000 and I try to setup Czech keyboard layout using keyhelper.xml. I have following problem:

There are characters with acutes and carons in Czech layout. Some of them have its owm keys (top line of keyboard), but some of them are made by pressing two keys: acute (or caron) and then the main key.

I would like to map F21 as acute/caron key, but I do not know to compile single character by pressing F21 first and then another key.

I have one very similar problem: after mapping Czech characters to top line of keyboard, I need to press Shift+number to get a number. It is OK, it is normal on Czech keyboard layout. But it changed Fx keys. On the original layout F1 was Cancel and then 1. Now, I have F1 as Cancel and than Shift+1.

Does anybody know how to edit keyhelper.xml to receive a single character after pressing two keys? Thank you.
