Usb 2.0 On The Sl-c3000

Hi all,

On their website, Dynamism claims that :

'And, since the Zaurus's HDD is plug-n-play recognized by Windows, moving data is by USB 2.0 connection is fast and easy'

Whereas this French guy says
 
'Petit bémol ici tout de même, c'est que la connection USB n'est pas USB 2 mais 1'

Which means that it only got USB 1 not 2.0.

Planning to acquire the machine shortly I would be greatful if anybody could attest that it supports USB 2.0.

No, it does not support USB 2.0.

You can plug a USB cable/device into the Zaurus, but the physical hardware on the Zaurus is only USB 1.1. Your transfer speeds would be limited to USB 1.1

well my answer was...

it seems to be only USB1 according to messages when using the USB host function

and i had provided traces from my "dmesg"  that shows a speed of 12Mb/s as mentionned by daXd

My SL-C3000 with cacko beta does not recognize external USB 2.0 devices (Pen-Drive/HDD etc). But it does support for USB1.0. Is that anyway to let my C3000 communicate with USB2.0 device? Please advice. Many thanks.

FWIW: My SL-C300 with Cacko 1.23beta1 does recognize my USB-2.0 "TwinMOS" 512MB pen-drive. It does transfer with USB-1.0 speed only, of course.

Maybe newer USB 2.0 drives are not 1.0 backwards compatible?

USB client should be 2.0, as the PXA270 processor supports that. Which means copying from your PC to the internal HD should be faster than a USB 1.1 connection.

USB host, using the PXA270 at least, is 1.1 only.

So, indeed, the answer is "yes & no".

thanks for reply. My problem here is the 3000 does not recognize at all the usb2.0 devices. It's fine if the speed is 1.0  

any idea how to make my 3000 recognize usb2.0 device.

I don't think its a USB 2.0 problem per say. There are devices out there that claim to be USB 2.0 but do not actually implement it properly, thus the Z is not able to recognise them. I have used lots of different USB 2.0 devices on my Z and it had no problems with them. I had devices that claimed to be USB 2.0 (but they weren't really) that I plugged into my PC which had a USB 2.0 host and it did not work, but then I tried it with one of my older laptop which only had USB 1.1 host and it worked

There are a couple of devices which are usb 2.0 but are not backwards compatible with usb 1.1, i used to think it ws required but i guess i was wrong or they didnt get usb approved

anyway  the pxa implemants full speed usb (12Mbps) however it supports the OTG (on the go) spec which is part of usb 2.0, its easy to get confused but it effectivly boils down to a device that can do client and host at 12Mbps

if you don't belive any of this just go and read the Xscale data sheet, it has tons of usefull info in it
