C1000/3x00 Hardware / External Keyboard Recs?
« on: April 07, 2005, 10:55:32 am »
Hi,

I too have Fellows stowaway USB keyboard, ordered through CompUSA.
This is compact when folded, but one downside is when it's in use, this keyboard requires fully flat relatively wide desk space because of its extra inches left and right.  Also pretty expensive.

I also tried Logitech USB keyboard for Playstation2.  This is good compact keyboard and also cheap ($19.99 at Fry's).  So, if you don't need foldable type or don't want to spend $70 for keyboard, think about this option.

FYI Eric,

The lsusb error you posted in Post#4 is because of user permission.  If you become root, it should work fine.

Hello egw,

Are you sure you got mini-A cable? not a mini-B?
You don't need to do any insmod to work with USB keyboard, they will be automatically loaded.  What 'lsusb -v' command says?

Do you know if you can add this to the module so the pharos usb gps that comes with streets and trips 2005 will work?

# define PL2303_PRODUCT_ID 0xaaa0

msft changed it so it would only work with S&T I got it to recompile on my laptop by replaceing the code, don't know how to add it.

Regarding /dev/ttyACM0 thing, sorry I also noticed this but haven't reported here.
My solution is adding that line into /etc/rc.d/rc.local

Do you mean /etc/rc.d/rc.modules? put the line in rc.local don't work for me

No.  It should be added to /etc/rc.d/rc.local
Then, we also need to add sym link.

 # cd /etc/rc.d/rc5.d
 # ln -s ../rc.local S49local

Hello xjqian,

I am no expert of PCS Vision, but what happened in my case is I was once using Vision about a year ago and for just a few months.  Then, I disabled Vision plan because I couldn't justify that extra monthly fee only to get picture files from cell phone built-in camera.  Instead, FutureDial's cable and software work for me.  The cell phone's built-in Netfront browser was not so attractive to me mainly because of its slow speed.
Anyway, therefore I had a PCS Vision userid and passwd.  I tried this same userid and passwd along with #777 number and it still worked.  I wondered if it re-enable my Vision plan automatically, but actually it didn't happen.  That is good because I don't wanna Vision plan but please please don't tell anyone.

BTW, I got Snap Media software with cable but not a dialing software.  So, I can't dial into Vision network from Windows but I can from my C3000, which is awesome.

Glad to hear it worked on 6000 too.

If you don't want to touch that file, the other solution I can think of is to create hot-plug detection script for your Sprint phone just like I did for usb GPS.

Hope this helps.

I don't know if 6000 has acm.o pre-installed or not.  Hope some 6000 users shed some light.  If not, probably you have to compile by yourself.

Hello relux,

Check out my thread in C3000 forum.

With C3000, you don't need to have ratoc CF card, and also device driver (acm.o) is pre-installed.

That's a 802.11g adaptor and even x86 driver doesn't exist yet.
I don't  want to say it is impossible, but it requires considerable efforts to make that one working.

Oneiros,

I haven't tried by myself, since I am using CF one, but I saw the web page where rtl8150 based USB WiFi is working with an additional module.

http://www.sky.sannet.ne.jp/morostar/usbhost/LUA-KTX.html

I think you can also get prism2 based devices working if you can compile the module of it, and maybe someone already tried it.  Better to make sure what chipset is used and what module is needed and if such Linux module exists for your device.

http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdevcat.php?id=16

When we look at C3000 /etc/hotplug/usb.distmap file, those WiFi modules are not listed, which means we need to add them manually.  On the other hand, I see 'pegasus' is listed there, so I believe most of USB ethernet adpators will work out of the box.  I personally don't see much advantage of USB WiFi because that cabling certainly ruins wireless freedom.

Of course, I used voltage tester to make sure polarity before soldering up.

One more.  Radio Shack's type B tip is compatible to Zaurus and also my Archos MP3 player.  When I swap it with type A tip, I can recharge my Sanyo cell phone.

The easiest way would be to set the PC Link as network over USB (it really is samba over USB).  Also, notes server has to be reachable otherwise znsync client can't get todo/calendar entries from notes.
