5x00 Hardware / Non Oem Travel Chargers/hotsysnc Cables
« on: April 22, 2005, 07:31:35 pm »
Hi wizzard,
I agree with you re. Rick Sherwood. I bought my cables from him off ebay, and also relayed my concerns about the "safety" of my Z using after market cables. He answered all my questions and concerns. He has been selling these cables to many PDA owners, and many Z owners, and told me he used them himself as well. Defintely a trustworthy internet and ebay retailer, and I would buy from him again in a second.

Glad to hear you got a replacement cable so quickly from him, and it all worked out re. synching your Z.

Hi Wizard,
I had no problem synching with the hotsync cable from rwsherwood. I was able to sync my Z with my work PC, and my laptop, with no problems. (My home PC is already set to sync with the cradle...)

I love the hotsync cable-because I don't have to drag a cradle along with me.

I used to have trouble synching my Z when I was running the original Sharp Rom, but since I have upgraded to Sharp 3.10 Rom-It has never been a problem. My work PC is a Win2K box, and my laptop is WinXP.

Sorry for the delayed reply!

Security and Networking / Citrix Options For The Zaurus
« on: March 20, 2005, 07:38:26 pm »
guanxi,
I have been searching high and low for a Citrix solution myself. It would be real handy. Thanks for the info!

BTW-I contacted thinkofit re. their Winconnect Z product, and they said it was an "obsolete" product, and they don't sell it anymore. It's still available at handago-but there is no free trial-and I'm not going to pay 79.00 for a piece of software if I can't even test run it first!

I have a 5500, running the Sharp 3.10 ROM. (In case you find something out there that might work...) :-)

Hi kahm,
Thanks. I had my husband figure out the amperage draw of my Z-he then compared the two power supplies, (the one that shipped with the Z, and the one online), and said he was comfortable the power supply was ok for my Z.

Thanks for your response.

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has used the aftermarket USB Hotsync Cables and Travel Chargers with their Zs? I've read some comments out here about "reverse polarity" and folks accidently toasting their Zs. I don't want to risk frying my Z. What's your opinion on these-can they be used safely?

I have a 5500.

Here's what I am looking at:

5x00 Hardware / User Replaceable Backup Battery?
« on: March 16, 2005, 10:32:38 pm »
Hi Marc,
Thanks for looking! Sorry if I cost you any sleep....

I really appreciate all the great info and specifics. I'll see if I can find the battery.
I'm sure more than a few fellow Z owners will find this information extremely valuable, and almost impossible to find!

Thanks again for all your help.

5x00 Hardware / User Replaceable Backup Battery?

Oh Marc-YOU ROCK! Thanks so much. I have looked high and low for specifics on this. I'll let you all know if I get brave enough to try this out, and what I find. What are the chances Radio Shack could get a replacement  battery for me, or do you think at this point I should call Sharp and see if they sell them?

Hi Marc,
The manual says there is one-and I suspect it did make into production, because I never had a problem with a software reset erasing my data/apps until I let my Zaurus battery rundown completely (accidently).

But like I said-it's a rare occasion my Z gets hung-and when it does-there are a couple of workarounds, so it's not a BIG deal. I'm curious by nature, and I just like everything to work right!

I just upgraded the ROM to Sharp 3.10-so perhaps the rare hanging problem will not show its face again anyway.

Now the question is-Where is it, and can I get a replacement.....

I have a Zaurus 5500. Through my own carelessness-I wore out the backup battery. It's not a huge deal-in the rare event I need to do a software reset-I can just restore my data from the CF card quickly using the restore app. I can also avoid having to do this by resetting when I am plugged into an AC outlet.

I am curious if the backup battery is user replaceable-like a CMOS battery on a PC? I have been unable to find detailed schematics on the guts of the 5500-so I don't want to risk taking it apart if I may ruin it in the process. (I've grown quite attached to my Z...  ) Rather than waste time calling Sharp Tech Support-I thought somebody may have run into this, and  could give me some insight.

Thanks So much!

Sue
