Ubuntu / Post Install Tweeks

at my c1000 its not nessesary to kill tskeys
its sufficient to edit /etc/zaurusd/mach-config-vars and put TSKEYS_DEVICE=/dev/input/event2 instead default value

another must do thing is:
alsamixer:
set headphone, pcm, speaker  to the top
unmute all left mixers (four of them) and right mixer (leave other right mixers muted)
finally enable speaker function (third control from end)

This gives clear sound through speaker and working headphones in stereo.

bass, treble, 3d set as you like. Play a bit with all of this deemphasis and filter thing if you have audiohile ear.

if your usb device does not work try dmesg and look if there is something like this:
usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using pxa27x-ohci and address 6
usb 1-2: rejected 1 configuration due to insufficient available bus power
usb 1-2: no configuration chosen from 1 choice

if you encounter problems with usb power then here is solution: https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showto...mp;hl=usb+power

tweak a bit zaurus leds:
echo mmc0 > /sys/class/leds/spitz\:green\:mail/trigger
echo ide-disk > /sys/class/leds/spitz\:amber\:charge/trigger

if you like put it in /etc/init.d/zaurusd right after echo "starting zaurusd"
this gives you blinking leds while accessing cards.

Make some swap, 64MB is quite enough for pda use, if you intend to use zaurus with zubuntu as a little laptop it may be neccessary to put some more swap.

install lynx, dillo, mpg321 (uses a lot less cpu), fbreader, consider installing mpd

after that zubuntu is very fine. I would even say it may be a new cacko.

Great job for its creators and maintainers! I dont miss cacko

In case you encounter "Unresolved Inheritance Operation" do as https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=26703 thread says.
xfig, xpat2, xmpuzles are affected.
I'm having the power problem with a usb ethernet dongle. I tried the workaround describe here by setting the address in the bConfigurationValue but that did not seem to make any difference. Is there something else to try?

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Dual Boot Cacko + Ii13 On C3000

Surprised that no one seems interested. I guess this is possible if pdaXii can run off SD (hey, but how?). It would be interesting to see my 3200  triboot cacko (nand), pdaxii (sd) and openbsd (internal cf).
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=166695\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I've been looking for the same thing. I have a 3000 with Cacko installed and like the functionality of this rom. One thing that's important for me is that I'm easily able to sync my desktop outlook calandar with the one on the Z using Intellisync. I've installed openbsd in a dual boot environment a like the additional functionality I was able to achieve. I would like to do the same with pdaxii13 but have yet seen anyone provide a path to dual this with a base cacko install. I keep checking though...

Sharp ROMs / Gpsdrive On Pdaxqtrom
« on: September 21, 2006, 07:26:37 am »
I'm running the latest version of pdaxqtrom on a C3000 running Cacko rom beta. For the most part it appears to be working well. I've trying to use gpsdrive with my garmin gps. When the gpsdrive app starts up the screen size is much bigger than the physical screen and hence not all the screen is visible. I haven't found a setting to change this behavior. Other apps i.e abiword, etc display with the window maximized within the physical screen.
Another problem I have is when I start gpsd from within gpsdrive it doesn't appear to start gpsd and hence I have no communication with the gps. I have qpeqps running under qtopia, it starts gpsd and communites with the gps unit without a problem.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
 Randy

Sharp ROMs / Cacko 1.23 For The C3000 (spitz)
« on: August 03, 2006, 07:00:57 am »
I remember reading a month or so ago about a release of Cacko 1.23 for the C3000. I believe Anton was going to work on it after release the 3200 version. I haven't seen anything posted relative to this so I was just wondering what the status was and if we could expect seeing a release in the near future.
Thanks,

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Suspend Problem With 3.5.4.1 On C3000

It seems if I choose choose suspend from the menu, then it turns on without a problem.  If I take advantage of the suspend on closing the lid, then I have the resume problem.  Does choosing suspend from the main menu make a difference for your 3100?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=137307\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I get the same effect, that the suspend from the menu appears to work but that seems to be the case if I resume shortly after I suspend. If I suspend from the menu and then leave it for say 30min and then try to resume it behaves just like the closing lid suspend.

I was surfing around to see if anyone else was having trouble with suspend feature of the new OZ Opie rom too.
I have also noticed the suspend feature to act up on my C1000.  I changed the settings so it suspends when I close the lid.  If I reopen the lid and hit the power button to bring it out of suspend the screen flashes on, then turns off.  At this point if I hit the "Home" button on the keyboard the Zaurus comes up ok and can continue to work.  I don't use any devices at all (other than an SD card).  I think we should submit a bugreport.

Have you tried the "Home" button on the keyboard?

thanks,
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=136950\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I don't believe I've tried the Home key. I did hit a bunch of keys but nothing seemed to wake it up. I'll try the Home key and let you know. I did look at the bug submittals and there appaars to be some that have already been submitted that sound like similar problems. Probably just need to append to those.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / How To Change Gpe Wm From Matchbox?
« on: July 19, 2006, 08:02:56 am »

I don't know which version of fluxbox-gpe you've got there since the packge is only a day or two old
but you can configure key binding to bring up the rootmenu of fluxbox. Window configuration can only be done w/ a right-mouse-button. You can use x11vnc and a vncviewer on your desktop for that.

The latest version brings up the root menu with Fn+[Menu],
[Home] switches trough open and non-minimized windows,
Fn+[Home] minimizes the active window.

Ah, and Alt+R reloads the configuration from ~/.fluxbox.

I have the latest version of fluxbox-gpe but I don't seem to have the key functionality that you descrbie (i.e. root-menu). What can I check to verify the setup is correct?
Thanks,
 Randy

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Suspend Problem With 3.5.4.1 On C3000
« on: July 18, 2006, 07:28:55 am »
I've recently moved from Cacko to the new OZ release (3.5.4.1) for the Spitz. I'm running the Opie Rom and have been experiencing a problem where I can not resume after a suspend. You press the power button but the screen remains blank I do see lights flashing on my bluetooth usb dongle but that's it. The only way to recover is to removing the battery and reboot with the power cord connected.

I did some testing and the suspend / resume seems to work okay so long as the power cord is connected to the Z. I did noticed the following message with dmesg.
hci_usb 1-2:1.0:no suspend for driver hci_usb

If I suspend with power connected and then remove power and resume it does resume but a few seconds (maybe 15) later the screen goes dark and I can't get it to come alive with out removing the battery. Even plugging in the a/c connection has no effect (charging light doesn't even come on unless you reset).

I've seen resports of similar problems but no solutions. Should I enter this as a problem on the bugtracker?

Thanks,
 Randy

More investigation has indicated that this behavior is independent of my usb bluetooth dongle. I removed the dongle and suspended while on battery power. I then resumed and it came back to life. I closed the lid put it down, a minute later picked it up and trying to power it on and no response. It was back to removing the battery and connecting the power cable. Seems the only mode this works in is with the power cord connected

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opie Hentges Rom

I only see a GPE Hentges image for the new OZ 3.5.4.1 for the Spitz.
Is there an OPIE image available?

Thanks,
Randy

Hi Anton,

I don't know if this has been addressed, but is the bug with the lowest brightness setting fixable?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126291\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Could be, I can't tell right now. In any case it will only be fixed in a ROM update or new version. What I'm currently working on is a port of existing ROM to C3000 "as it".
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126381\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Hi Anton,
Any update on the port of Cacko 1.23 to the C3000?
Thanks,
 Randy

P.S. I assume you had to fight your way through the "configure" process somehow (and if so, how did you do it in the crosscompile environment)? Or was there an easier way for you to get all this working?
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

As I recall I just did the usual "make config" (or maybe it "make menuconfig") but made sure I used the correct example config file (for the Spitz I think.)  That was, of course after a successful run of "./configure".

That way you set the options for video4linux (which I see you also need...) and everything else before the final make.

Best of luck with your robot project - keep us posted.  I got my C3000  to compile [a href=\"http://www.voti.nl/jal]JAL[/url] programs and then program the Microchip PIC series of microprocessors in my robot cars through a USB<>serial cable.  It then interacts with the operating robot cars through the same interface - no vision though

I'm trying to get a garmin gps unit working with my C3000 but I'm running the Cacko ROM and not the Sharp Rom. I have a U232-P9 USB - Serial converter to connect the C3000 to the Garmin. It seems that the hotplug scripts detect the USB-serial device but can't find a driver to load. According to the usb.distmap file matching vendor/product codes from the lsusb -v it should be loading mct_u232.o.
I tried copying this driver from Jonathan's usb_serial package but depmod -a gives unresolved symbols in module mct-u232.o. How do I go about getting this to work with the Cacko Rom?
Thanks

I'm trying to assess stability of Kernel patch sets to provide an ongoing feed of information to Maslovsky who, as you can see has started to pull together a patch set for the more official Kernel.

Anton is starting with a Tetsu Kernel base and recently this base Kernel was updated to version 18a which has unified source with the 1000 model

Also the Kernel now has nicities like granularity in /proc/apm so the battery status from the updated battery applet will report a much more granular % (see picture attached).

I'm not calling on all the beta testers to do this but for the ones that really want to provide stability feedback I would ask that you consider installing the Tetsu v18a Kernel. Don't forget to install the IPK for the Kernel modules too.

In case you are worried about rollback the IPK is fairly well behaved, preserves the links to the Kernel modules and recreates them if you uninstall. I would suggest taking a backup using the Backup applet in the Settings page first though.

Procedure.

Use the updater.sh from the SL-C3K ROM.
Unpack and rename the zImage file from the Tetsu download to zImage.bin

Put ONLY these two files on a flash card and perform the install.

Install the Kernel Modules IPK and I would suggest following this.

Note you do not need to erase the system when you perform this change.

Andy
I've downloaded the Tetsu 18a kernel and additional modules for the C3000 and have applied them as you indicate is these instructions on my C3000 running Cacko Beta 1.23 but it doesn't appear any different post install. That is, my battery app looks the same as it did before the install. There we no errors during the install so it appears everything went fine. Is there a way I can verify that the updates were made?
Thanks

Software / Kde-pim/pi 2.1.0 Available!
« on: September 25, 2005, 02:27:32 pm »
I'm trying to sync KO/PI on a C3000 with KO/PI on installed on a Windows XP desktop. I'm using Ko/PI 2.2.0 but have been unable to get them to sync successfully. If I download the .ics file to the C3000 then I can load that calendar with no problems. I'm currently running Cacko 1.2.3 Beta on the C3000.
Here's what happens:

Select synchronize Desktop on the C3000. A window pops up on the desktop indicating a sync is in progress.
On the C3000 a window pops up first saying connecting to remote, then saying downloading sync file (with a progress bar)
After the file is downloaded a window is displayed to select sync preferences. Once I select "Newest entry" everything comes to an abrupt halt and in the KO/PI banner on the C3000 is a message "Syncing Failed"

I first thought this was due to space so I reinstalled with the /kdepim directories on /hdd3/zaurushome. I also increase the size of /tmp to 4m from 1m but still the same response. I do notice that a tempsynccal.ics file appears in /tmp but something is prevent successful sync. I've been unable to find any log or messages that would indicate the reason.

Anyone with a similar problem or a possible solution? From what I read it appears that many just copy the .ics file from one platform to the next. Is this because there are issues with getting these different systems to sync?

Thanks,
rgrich
