I know that second hand cars from Japan are exported to, for example, New Zealand and maybe some Asian countries.

To the UK too    I am one of the many happy owners of a Eunos Roadster   ( equiv to a Mk1 Mazda MX5 / Miata depending where you are in the world)

Then again I also have a second hand SL5500   Both have been tweaked to run slightly differently to the original spec

Are you using the liquid style / theme?  That used to make Konquerer bomb out on me all the time.

It might not be actually connecting correctly,  on Opie I have to put s: before my asci wep key in the applet.  Might be worth a try

Does it show you the speed you are connected at,   if it only shows 1Meg or something really slow it usually means that you have not authenticated correctly with the AP,  you can be associated with it without correctly being authenticated to connect to it

In order to use WEP encription for wireless network, do I have to set the key to HEX on both the AP and the Z ?

Hi,  to use ASCI keys for WEP under 3.5.3 I had to prefix the key with s:

Ah,  yes I am.

I can't access the net from here on the PDA but I will change it and see if it fixes it this evening.    Weird,   does it just take up too much power with all the eyecandy then?

Edit:

Ah I was using a liquid style with polished windows

I have now discovered a couple of wierd things,  a work around for google is to use thier  wap site http://wap.google.com which seems to work fine,   I have also discovered that gmail works fine even though the main search page doesn't

I think I will have a go with Opera

Hi.

Got a Collie here running Henges Rom 3.5.3

I can browse lots of sites including complex sites but for some reason whenever I go to Google (one of the few sites you would not think to have problems with) I get a pityful yelp and konq dies with a SIGSEGV message

It happens on a couple of other sites but Google is the one I always remember

I have turned Javascript off et al but still can't get it working   Any thoughts anyone?

It is a 64-0 kernel so I don't think it is a memory issue,  but again thoughts?

It is a tad embarrasing that I have a fantastic tool that I can remotely fix my servers from the pub (why I bought it  ) with but can't nip onto Google when I am bored in meetings

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz 3.5.4 Release Date?
« on: October 28, 2005, 04:01:30 pm »
I wish there was a way of doing some kind of distributing computing to make a build farm for this sort of stuff.  I know I have machines that could go into it.

General Discussion / Zaurus Sl-5500 Device Anylisis
« on: October 14, 2005, 06:24:29 pm »
Nice review.

I am not sure that I would compare it to a normal PDA,  especially when you consider what you are reviewing is a discontinued device which is now running custom software   Hell you can't go out and buy these in the shops   We are now more into hot rodding country    Take a good solid device,   decide that it isn't dead yet and there is plenty of power left in it and tweak it till it kicks arse again

I am not sure how many people buy Zaurii primarily as a PDA,  I didn't.  I wanted something that talked SSH that I could connect to my phone

For me the Zaurus is why I don't have to haul a laptop around,  and I don't have a wizzy 3100 or anything just a plain old 5500,  if i am going to the colo just for some routine stuff I leave the lappy in the car,  if I need to connect to the network for simple stuff I connect the Zaurus,  if I get a systems alert I can use my Z and phone from anywhere I can get a signal,  being able to login to servers and kick them from the pub is very useful

It is a technological swiss army knife,  I have ethernet, wifi,  bluetooth and irda.  It holds half a gig of data which I can expand by putting in a bigger SD card,  and are now around £80 on ebay.

For normal PDA users I think that they will be happier elsewhere as they will want something that just works,  unfortunatly OZ is not there yet,  this is not a criticism just a state of play.    Then again I don't class the Z as a PDA,  it is full machine that fits in your pocket,  or actually Sharp did get it right with the naming, it is a Personal Mobile Tool.

Oh and sniffing the wifi networks when you are waiting in the queue at the supermarket is geeky fun too
