Software / X/qt Jumbo Pack To Sd Card?
« on: December 10, 2005, 10:45:52 pm »
I have a sl-c860 running oz 3.5.3. I want to install abiword and learned it requires x/qt. I would like to install the x/qt jumbo pack as described at http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/jumbo/xqtjumbo.html to my sd card. However, I am not able to get the sd card to mount automatically on boot up. I need to reinsert it. I assume I will need to reinsert the card prior to launching abiword. Aside from that, will this cause issues if I install x/qt to the sd card?

Themes, Icons, and Backgrounds / Customizing Oz Background
« on: December 10, 2005, 06:14:14 pm »
Thanks worked like a charm. I'm thinking about customizing the startup screen too. I saw someone posted a Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy startup screen. Are there any sites with a selection of start up screens available for sl-cxxx models?

I didn't find a bug track number but did find some old forum threads on the issue without a resolution. Is there a howto on updating the kernel on OZ?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Updating Oz 3.5.3 And Kernel?
« on: December 05, 2005, 07:41:21 pm »
What is the maintanence and upgrade proceedure for OZ and OZ kernel? Do we normally wait for the next major release of OZ or are there regular updates to install? I see kernels in the feed. Do we normally upgrade the kernel? If update proceedures are in place can you point me in the direction of documentation on how?

Specifically, I'm hoping to address an issue with my sd card. Basically It will not detect if inserted prior to boot up. It seems like this will preclude me from installing many programs to my sd card which will cause me to run out of ram. My issue is mentioned in the below post. Thanks.

Software / Openoffice Docs On Oz?

What program would you recommend for reading open offic .sxw and .ods files and possibly ms office .doc and .xls. I'd like it to be a small program if possible.

General Discussion / Problems Mounting Sd Card 3.5.3 Kernel 2.6.11
« on: December 03, 2005, 08:19:49 pm »
It now appears that the card mounts if I reinsert it once OZ is booted just like the previous post. It will not mount if I have it inserted during boot up.

General Discussion / Increasing Font Size In Console

I am running OZ 3.5.3 kernel 2.6.11. Is there a way to increase the font size in the console? When I try to do so by editing the default profile, the console freezes up, I am forced to reboot, and the font size remains the same....much too small to read.

General Discussion / Problems Mounting Sd Card 3.5.3 Kernel 2.6.11
« on: December 03, 2005, 07:54:39 pm »
I am encountering problems mounting an sd card with OZ 3.5.3 kernel 2.6.11 on a sl-c860. I used the following image to reflash
opie-image-c7x0-20050411221036.rootfs.img

The sd card was formated ext2 from a sl-5500 running OZ 3.5.3. I do not receive any task bar event when inserting the sd card. I tried to follow the advice in this posting.

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showt...827&#entry99827

My syslog contains the following when I insert the card.

mmcblk: probe of mmc0:b368 failed with error -22
corgi_mc1_setpower: off
corgi_mc1_setpower: on
corgi_mci_setpower: on
card wants rca: b3680500
cid dump: some numbers
mmcblk1: mmc0:b368 SDC 999936KiB
mmcblk1: p1

Are there patches I should install. Should I be using a different image to flash?

Software / Vi Key Strokes On Sl-c860
« on: December 03, 2005, 07:20:31 pm »
I am trying to find out what key strokes will allow me to use VI with a sl-c860. I cannot find the esc or insert key. I have tried the software keyboard and it only has a esc key but no insert key!

General Discussion / Model Advice

My advice is to get the 760/860.  Since the size of the device is important to you, the sl-cx60 can be configured to use a small battery.  The small battery is good enough for pim duty and is small enough to easily fit in the pocket.  When you do need some more battery time, you have the option of the big battery.  There's plenty of things you can do with a sl-cx60 and 1gb SD card.

The 3100 is very nice, but it is not pocketable the way you want.  It's good for a jacket pocket, cargo pants or a belt clipped case.

Thanks for the input. Too bad the sl-a300 is so hard to find. It seems pretty small.

For Sale / Wanted / What Is The Smallist Linux Pda?
« on: November 14, 2005, 03:43:35 pm »
To bad the sl-a300 is so hard to find. I have a h4150 which I believe is similar in size as the 19xx/221x. It seems like a significant amount of work would be involved with getting linux up on the h4150 and no WLAN support is available yet. What would the smallest Linux PDA be which can be purchased easily and on which the os installed relatively easily?
