Cool thanks. I started to get excited.  Read the specs, got more excited. Then I realised it costs $41.   So I thought "well, you've gotta pay to play."  Then I remembered to add shipping, oh wait it's $41 + $13.66 shipping.  I may wait on that abit.  /khan!

Would any of these be good for a student to record classroom lectures with?

Software / Note Taking App - Suggestions?
« on: November 10, 2006, 12:24:06 am »
I'm interested in tuxcards for cacko 1.23.  I've been using portabase for lots of stuff but wouldn't mind giving this a spin.

It seems very nice and orderly.

Software / Frink
« on: September 13, 2006, 09:21:56 am »
Hey guys I just wanted to let you know that Frink has had a few updates, open up dialogue and hear your opinions on the topic.

A recent update has:
Improved the Historical U.S. Price Data  conversions to look up conversion rates in a static file (distributed with Frink).  This means you don't have to connect to the internet to see how much 13 dollars was worth in 1898 for example.

It needs JVM and I'm using Jeode.  The author suggests that Java 1.5 version 2 be used.

Is there an appropriate JVM released as an ipk that meets those requirements?  Like I said I'm using Jeode but I haven't gotten into the meat of Frink yet and may be possibly missing something.  IRn00b.

The standard units file is quite flexible. Hopefully, you shouldn't
have to modify the units in there (unless you're, say, a surveyor and
you want the "foot" to mean the "surveyfoot" .)

It's rather easy to make your own list of additional definitions that
will complement the standard distribution. You can then load this file
using the

-k [filename]

switch from the command line, or using the "use file" menu option
from the interactive GUI.

I'd be happy to add or distribute libraries that you might build.

> so.. what are the limits on the standard unit set?

There are very few limits. You can even add new base dimensions at
runtime. So, if you're working on warp drive physics, and you need to
add "cochranes" as a measure of subspace distortion, you can do it.

On the other hand, Frink runs on a variety of handheld devices, and
one of the things that contributes most to its startup time and memory
usage is the size of the standard data file, so I have to consider what
units get added somewhat carefully.

Absolutely. I recently added the ability to have libraries
distributed within the standard distribution. At the moment, there
aren't any, but I'll add them as they get good enough (and if they're
not too big.) For the moment, I just have them downloadable from the
web site.

Some of the big questions are:

1.) Do these get written in an object-oriented fashion? For example,
if we want to store the properties of Carbon, it might have a density, a
number of protons and neutrons, etc., all of which may vary. (They may
vary by isotope, or by temperature and pressure, or by allotropic form
such as graphite or diamonds or buckyballs. Getting properties of these
objects might have to be represented by functions.) Do we do this as
new units such as "uraniumdensity" or as properties of an object like
Uranium which is an instance of ... uh... what class? What should the
inheritance hierarchy look like, if there is one?

Since I haven't fully implemented inheritance, there's necessarily
some delay in doing that.

2.) How stable and good do the libraries have to be to be allowed into
the standard distribution?

3.) Should we have an external repository of libraries and a tool to
download these files like Perl's CPAN or yum or apt-get? Should these
be downloaded on a user-by-user basis or for the whole machine? Should
they be downloaded on first request?

Sometimes I look at the whole CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics
and despair at how much effort it'll take to get all of that into Frink,
but hopefully it'll happen someday.

If someone has libraries to contribute, or would like some help in
designing them, please let me know!

General Discussion / Bluetooth Audio
« on: August 12, 2006, 07:33:51 pm »
I'm thinking of getting a coupla pairs of Oakley O rokr's so we (my gal and I) can stream music from our c1000's to the sunglasses stereo earbuds and also recieve and answer cell phone calls from our razr's.

I was thinking of getting the razrwire then I realised I wouldn't be able to listen to tunes in my ride and answer the phone very well as I use the Z as my car stereo. Therefore I'm curious about bluetooth  A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) and AVRCP (Audio Visual Remote Control Profile to allow customers to remotely control functions such as mute, volume level or track forward/back) support on the C1000 (Cacko 1.23).
Here's a review snippet on the O ROKR and streaming audio....
http://www.bonafidereviews.com/article.php?id=177&page=4

To test the O ROKR we used multiple devices. We used two cell phones the LG-VX8100 and Samsung A640 for call testing. We also used a Apple iPod Nano with a iCombi bluetooth adapter and Dell Axim pocket PC for audio streaming. Pairing the O ROKR with all of the devices was very easy. Above is the screen of the Samsung A640 during the pairing process.

Using the O ROKR with the cellphones was a very easy process. Depending on the phone, the interaction between the O ROKR and the phone was different. For the LG-VX8100, once the phone was paired all sound made on the phone was sent to the O ROKR and none was heard from the phone itself. This includes navigating menus and key press sounds. However the Samsung phone kept playing all sound through the phone's speaker unless a call was being made. Once the phone was dialing the sound was transferred to the O ROKR. Also, when paired with the Samsung phone, if we pressed the phone button the O ROKR a voice recognition menu was loaded on the phone from which we could simply call out the name of the contact entry and it would dial. On both units, once the call connected, the quality of sound was quite good when comparing it to typical phone quality. The person on the other line was easily understood, not being able to hear them due to poor quality was never a problem. It should be noted that the call button on the O ROKR can also be used to answer incoming calls so pulling the cell phone out of a pocket or purse isn't required.

When using the O ROKR with the pocket PC, audio quality was decent but had a bit of static in it. When getting further than 11 feet away from the pocket pc the audio became extremely static filled. The iPod Nano was a more positive experience with sound quality significantly better but keep in mind the quality heavily depends on the bluetooth adapter used with the iPod Nano. It's important to note that the audio device's bluetooth must support the A2DP profile for listening to music and the AVRCP profile to enable controlling the player through the play controls on the O ROKR.

Like the THUMP 2, the O ROKR glasses fit snugly to the head and face so using them during rigorous activity like running, playing tennis, or snowboarding is ideal. During these types of usage the real value having no cords or an external player to worry about really shines. Plus the added ability of answering the phone without having to touch it is a major convenience for those always on the run.

As previously mentioned, the battery life of the O ROKR is typically around 4-5 hours. This short battery life could be a drawback for users looking to use the glasses for very long periods of time. If pairing with both a MP3 player and cell phone separately the battery life would be even less.

I found a link on the milkytracker forums with "milkytracker.gz"
Second post: http://oldschool.voodoofrog.com/forum/view...?t=245&start=15
I extracted milkytracker and copied it to my /home/QtPalmtop/bin directory and tried to run it from the console.
I have a SL-C3100
I use Cacko 1.23 lite and have libSDL 1.2.6-zports-5 installed.
The console gives this error when trying to run milkytracker:
milkytracker: error while loading shared libraries: /home/QtPalmtop/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0: undefined symbol: cmd__12QPaintDeviceiP8QPainterP13QPDevCmdParam

Do I have an incorrect libSDL-1.2 library installed?
I use that library for the Znes-Genesis emulator
If there is a different version of libSDL-1.2 required, will this libSDL install alongside the above, (libSDL 1.2.6-zports-5) ?
And where do I find the required (libSDL-1.2) ?

I have C1000 with  Cacko 1.23.  I get an sdl error along the lines of "libstdc++.so.6 cannot load shared object file: no such file or directory" when I use .gz.  If I check magnify when running the .ipk version it will load but do little else. If I uncheck magnify I get a vertical bar about a qtr of the screens width with an hourglass but nothing completely loads.

I would also like to install the memory trainer from the sharp rom, I used it a little fun to have. the Toeic english test, the golf and the other contents got erased of course, the train guide is not usefull at all, and the map are very low quality, so outside of the Zdict and the memory trainer I don't think the other original sharp tools deserve to be "rescued". Anyway, the main point, Zdict how to !
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I am glad I found this thread!

Speaking of memory trainers, the Japanese Nintendo DS has a [a href=\"http://ds.ign.com/objects/740/740437.html]Brain Trainer[/url] that has had me excited for quite awhile.  It seems it will  be coming to America in 2006.  Still I prefer the Japanese version since I am trying to learn the language. On the subject of Zdict and other more quirky(but fun!) Japanese software/games/books/manga, does anyone have any suggestions?  I want to be able to use my C1000 to immerse myself in Japanese(Chinese and Korean too!) electronic media and text.

Hi.  Long time lurker here.  I finally bought a C1000 (x2!) and happen to be taking Japanese language instruction.  Sooo...as a student of Japanese how could I keep my Zaurus thinking it is Japanese while displaying menu output and such in english.  I would also like to make use of the Japanese to English dictionary as well as keep any and all other Japanese goodness on the unit or even add some if necessary!

I have found several threads on the subject, but my newbness prohibits me from utilising the knowledge! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Below are links that I've found that don't seem to help my particular needs but may help someone else.  If I've missed something right in front of my face please let me know.
