A Music Application For The Z
« on: February 22, 2006, 01:45:33 am »
there is the possiblity that the developer of milkytracker http://www.milkytracker.net/ will compile a version for the Z!
here the forum link:
http://oldschool.voodoofrog.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=245
[img]http://www.milkytracker.net/columna.GIF\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /]
afaik there has not been a usable method of making music on the Z, if this works out there could finally be!

Well I'm not getting my hopes up too high because any tracker apps I've compiled for the Zaurus run too slowly because of their dependance on floating point

Bummer.. How about a player that just plays *.mod *.XM *.s3m *.stm *.okt modules?
I have 2 module players for my Palm, they are:
Psytexx2
http://www.warmplace.ru

MovenentO v01
(couldn't find exact URL, but is Powered by MODULA Audio Engine)
http://modula.indus3.org

These play only MOD and XM files, but that's a start.
I used to have Mod4Win. It played all above mentioned module formats on a desktop PC.

Pailes over at millkytracker has a working beta now.
the ipk installs perfectly with the sharp 313 rom on my sl5500.
everything it needs is in the package... so there is no dependecy problems!!!

he sent me the link to the beta, but since its still beta there isnt a public link yet.
when its up i'll post the link, unless he or someone else, beats me to it

it works unbelievably well!!!!!!
the sound is unbelievable as well
i would compare i to, if not better then the mp3 playback..

its a work of artistry.

Sorry...

I was, for awhile, interested in MilkyTracker-
but got sidetracked with MIDI-based composition tools.

I'm poking at Denemo -  http://denemo.sourceforge.net

(screenshot from a desktop X11 setup)

[img]http://denemo.sourceforge.net/0.7.3beta2-4tet.png\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /]

It's pretty close to useable out of the box, at least for Cxx0 Zaurii running X;
I'm looking into trying to trim/clean it up a bit more, make a good keymap,
and find a way to filter through Timidity without a 10-15 second delay.
The developers clearly have a unix-like brain:
the display is GUI/WYSIWYG,  but notes are entered with vi / EMACS keystrokes.

Note:  its basically a Score editor, using LilyPond natively, but can read/write
ABC and MIDI.  Sound output is through Timidity - okay quality, but pretty slow.
Csound is also supported; if that might be less CPU hungry than Timidity
(I haven't tried it).

Anyway, a proper package for OE/OZ and ipk for pdaXrom
are definitely in the works.

I can post a tarball for Cxk pdaXrom if anyone wants to see;
but it builds clean enough from source, (or CVS) you almost wouldn't need one.

On OpenZaurus w/ soft-float that thing should rock. Where's the source?

Source for denemo is:

[a href=\"http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/denemo]http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/denemo for 0.75

Denemo doesn't use much float. Speed bottlenecks will be screen redrawing and sound output (csound/timidity).

240x320 might be a little tight, but it should be possible to remove extraneous toolbars.

(ex:  from version 0.72a)

Hi - I've contacted Pailes on milkytracker to ask for the ipk, so I can try it out on oz3.5.4 - any chance you can post the ipk here (I guess he might prefer me to get it directly from him).

Yes - Pails responded very quickly, and his ipk worked fine with the compat libs.  I was on the #milkytracker (irc) for a shot while, and someone (forgotten who it was now) volunteered to get a version working with the newer version of gcc that works with OZ - this *nearly* works, except that the version I was given wouldn't stop playing an xm file once it'd got started & since then, I've sold my collie to upgrade to an sl-3200 which is being shipped as I write.  I'll definitely give it a go again, though, as it was a nice app.

I found a link on the milkytracker forums with "milkytracker.gz"
Second post: http://oldschool.voodoofrog.com/forum/view...?t=245&start=15
I extracted milkytracker and copied it to my /home/QtPalmtop/bin directory and tried to run it from the console.
I have a SL-C3100
I use Cacko 1.23 lite and have libSDL 1.2.6-zports-5 installed.
The console gives this error when trying to run milkytracker:
milkytracker: error while loading shared libraries: /home/QtPalmtop/lib/libSDL-1.2.so.0: undefined symbol: cmd__12QPaintDeviceiP8QPainterP13QPDevCmdParam

Do I have an incorrect libSDL-1.2 library installed?
I use that library for the Znes-Genesis emulator
If there is a different version of libSDL-1.2 required, will this libSDL install alongside the above, (libSDL 1.2.6-zports-5) ?
And where do I find the required (libSDL-1.2) ?

I have C1000 with  Cacko 1.23.  I get an sdl error along the lines of "libstdc++.so.6 cannot load shared object file: no such file or directory" when I use .gz.  If I check magnify when running the .ipk version it will load but do little else. If I uncheck magnify I get a vertical bar about a qtr of the screens width with an hourglass but nothing completely loads.
