Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Upgrade Kernel Offline To 2.6 In Oz Rc3.5.4

Hi,

I installed the release candidate for 3.5.4 including a 2.4.20 kernel. For networking I understood I would have to have a 2.6 kernel.

What kind of networking are you talking about ?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=104767\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Hi,
first many thanks for your answers... and my apologies as I forgot the most important part :-( .
I tried to configure networking using the usb cable... My bank account not really recreated from the zaurus' purchase so no WiFi on the horizon yet.

When plugging in the cable into the zaurus I only see in /var/log/messages of the desktop that an undefined usb device came up. Nothing about that this device could be a zaurus...
When looking on the zaurus in that situation I see that no networking service is working. No usb0, no usbd0, nothing.

When trying to start one of these services the startup always fails. I looked at the OpenZaurus Documentation for usb networking but IMHO there's said that this only works with a 2.6 kernel on the zaurus. And that's why I'm asking that stupidly ...

Can anyone please tell me how to upgrade the kernel via ipkg and SD-card? Desktop with 2.6.14 (up and running) wants to connect but right now I don't get any meaningful messages when plugging in. Just that a device connected with ID but no name strings and so on...
On Z side I found out that except from loopback no networking is up. But all the interface services I tried failed when starting manually.

Please help

use CF card reader/writer.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=104168\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

hmmm I am stuck am I,anyways seems like there is no other way around it. I do have two questions?

1) Is there a hard reset or something similar to it?
2)Which openzaurus version that will work for me without any problems?

Thanks guys
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=104172\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
1) There is a reset, but it resets to the default ROM. So that won't work.

To explain what hrw meant:
eject the SD/CF card, copy a NAND backup on the card and then reboot to diagnosis mode. With that you will get the default sharp ROM.

or copy the OZ files once again to a card and flash from the card. BUT
before flashing verify that EVERY bit is correct by comparing the md5sums.

2) Here on the C1000 the RC 3.5.4 is working. Pretty cool.

Marc

P.S.: Did you copy / rename the files correctly? Maybe there might also have been a misunderstanding...

Card applet in 3.5.4-rc is for CF cards only.

Kernel 2.4.xx on Zaurus report two CF slots on each machine - nevermind does it has one CF (5000, 5500, 5600, c7x0, c1000) or two (c3000, c3100).
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=104047\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Okay. That explains the SD problem. Do you have any clue where to look for the settings regarding the CF? With the commandline tools the SD card works properly, the CF card fools around... Sometimes I can, sometimes I cannot save stuff on the CF card. But not everything and not everytime...

And thx for the information regarding the card applet.

Best regards

Marc

Yes, this was a bug which I thought had been removed.

Assuming this is still afflicting the RC builds could you add it to the bug tracker please.

Done #1798. It does happen w/ my 3.54RC build.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=103249\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

ACK. I'm having trouble with my SD and my CF-card.
dmesg starts with
wrong magic
mmcda: mmcda1
FAT: unable to read boot sector
mmcda: mmcda1
isofs_read_super: bread failed, dev:3c:04, iso_blknum=16,block=32
mmcda: mmcda1
...
.

Kernel: 2.4.20 cause no networking yet just the OZ OPIE 3.54RC

cardctl tells me:
Socket0 there is a 3.3V 16-bit PC Card
Socket1 : no card.

But both cards are mounted and accessible.
SD is a Kinston 1GB Elite Pro (50x)
CF is a Trancend 1GB CF card (45x).

When removing/reentering the CF the applet in the taskbar interacts, with the SD card it doesn't. But it is the SD card that is working properly. I always flash from SD.

Strange

Heck, I need that extra space as you might soon realise once you got happy with your C1000.
If you think they are expensive, then have a look at an OQO.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=102911\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Hi all,
I recently bought a C1000. If you add a fat SD and a fat CF card I think you might not run into that much trouble regarding disk space.

Is a Zaurus worth its money? I bought mine in Germany. Not that cheap. But it's like a watch. Once you are used to it you will feel naked without. I'm really glad about the keyboard. You are that fast entering new dates and so on... It's not a PC keyboard and fast is relative but when you just want something not to forget I would really suggest a clamshell.

Greats

Marc
P.S.: @Armagon: where are you from?

Thanks for you quick reply.  No didn't plugged in the power supply. :-(
I guess the SD Card is not seen by the system. If I choose CF which is not avaiable I get the same messages. Also if there no SD Card at all plugged in.

Did someone have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Bepp

Maybe you do have a problem with your SD-Card.
To flash OZ you can really follow the instructions. I succeeded today.

-Did you rename the files (updater.sh,zImage.bin,initrd.bin)?
-Do you see the SD-card in the diag-mode?
-When inserting the power plug does the charging LED blink or does is burn constantly?

Marc

P.S.: Forget 3.5.3, flash with 3.5.4RC. It rocks. But before flashing backup your ROM. Then the way back to your current programs is only 10 minutes to go.

You are right... The update was worth it. Congratulations to your job! I'm using OPIE now and it looks really good (more exactly: FANTASTIC!!). I hope to be able to install kopi and kapi soon to reuse all the data I entered when working with the SHARP Rom.

Right now I don't know how to connect to a windows PC but maybe I'll find somthing. I even found a hint to install the whole qtopia for windows and afterwards it might work... But I'll find out.

The first one will give your WAN address and IP(F)config gives the LAN address
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=102278\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Hmmm. A traceroute (Linux) / tracert (Win) will show you all IP adresses. And a server side script will also only show the WAN adress. If it might show the private adress I would suggest to look if you are sitting next to the server...

try 3.5.4-RC
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=102025\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Okay. I tried to... But why are there soooo many files in the feed? I searched for 3 files. And I got 4 of them. Okay, bootstrap-image -> initrd, updater.sh.akita -> updater.sh, but what about the other two... How are those files applied? I think the zImage.akita is the zImage. But what about the big image... how does this image have to be applied?

Thx for your answer

Hi,
I'm proud owner of a C1000. Normally it is flashed with SharpROM 1.01JP and it's working. I tried to flash OZ one week ago, achieved in booting, but I had no chance to enter characters except from non capital letters. I furthermore tried to get USB working with my windows PC but also didn't succed :-(
The GUI of the "default" OZ (OPIE) is really much nicer than the SHARP one - looks MUCH MORE like a linux -, but unfortunately I don't have the time to test all stuff until it works and as I'm reading some of you succeeded in installing/using OZ there might be some docu somwhere.... Is there any documentation about what to patch
-to get the whole keyboard working (starting from the default image in the download section)
-to get connected with a PC (preferably Windows)
-to install ko/pi and ka/pi for using the Data stored in /home when using the sharpROM?

I would really appreciate help as I don't find enough documentation for my problems and I'm still a bit timid when trying some stuff.

THX and Greets from Stuttgart

Marc
P.S.: I would really PREFER OZ as it is MUCH nicer than SharpROM...

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Found New Power And Sync Cable

Hey all, the "logic3" branded PSP charger/sync cable is available all over the place in the UK - record shops, game shops, you name it, and is less than $10 (less than £6 native  )

it works brilliantly, and is retractable.  The power bit doesn't retract, but it's still damn neat and fits inside the top of the "pouch" that i have for the Z.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=100538\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Hi everybody,

I asked for the same cable in Germany, too. And I got the really true, but a bit frustrating answer that this cable is only as good as the USB power supply behind it. If you have a bad USB hub offering only little more than 5V you will be able to toast your Z. Following the Trisoft guys the charging module inside the Z can be damaged very easily. I'm currently thinking of a limiting electronics board that cuts everything with more than 5V, but I don't have enough time to follow that idea.

Its probably because your SD is formatted as FAT and the package you are trying to install has symbolic links which FAT does not support.
You might have better luck with an ext2 or ext3 formatted SD.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=100625\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I'll also try. Installation of gcc and perl also failed... But I was unsure about how to format and mount those expansion cards in the Z....

@Meanie: In your signature you are writing about a 4G card you use... I always heard that there exists a 1G limit for SD/CF cards... What have you done to make this huge card work?

(Great + Thank)s

Marc
