Hi IK6yae0s,

As late as this reply is, I just saw your post and thought it might
be the same thing I suffered with my BT earpiece (assuming you're
connecting to your cars with BT)...

As gymbo suggested, have you tried going into Settings/Cosmo Settings/
and cycling/turning off the "Silver side button answers call in
speakerphone mode" toggle switch?

Good luck,

PJS

Thanks gymbo!

I completely forgot about that setting!  I cycled it and it appears
to have corrected my Cosmo's problem.

Thanks again!

Hi all,

I've tried all the things I can think of, to no avail... I hope you might
have a solution...

A number of weeks ago I left my bluetooth earpiece in my car (on & within
range) and recieved a call.  So I answered and immediately switched it
from the earpiece to the built-in Cosmo call mic/speaker.

Ever since, each time I place a call while on bluetooth; I hear it ringing
in my earpiece, but when the call connects, it switches to the Cosmo's
mic/speaker (then I have to re-select bluetooth as my audio connection in
the call app).  Obviously, this mess is supremely frustrating - especially
when driving!

I have gone through all the 'droid settings, the call app settings and
even reset those in the call app which ONLY appear while on a call
(frickin goggles!).

I've repeatedly reset my earpiece in bluetooth to be used for phone calls.
I've unpaired/re-paired my bluetooth earpiece.  I've gone through my
(Plantronics) earpiece's management app's settings.I've called Plantronics
and they had no more ideas (but to re-pair, again - done so).

The funny (gallows humor) thing about this is that I actually have two of
the exact same earpiece (one for home & on the road) where the exact same
symptoms are happening.  That seems to tell me the problem is clearly
occrring in 'droid & its dialer/call app, not the earpieces.

So what do I do to fix this?   Any ideas??   It's not like emailing Planet
is going to go anywhere.   Trying to get help from Goggles on their OS is
even LESS likely to draw any helpful response.

Please let me know your thoughts!

Thanks,

PJS

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Broken CODI Display
« on: June 24, 2020, 11:51:43 am »
Hi all,

Been meaning to post about this for several weeks and then I saw others
have hit the same problem...  It's a trend!    ...and a warning.

Apparently there's some sort of weakness with the CODI screen *UNDER*
the touchscreen glass such that the LCD display cracks & stops working.

Beware!  Is it from snapping the screen shut?  pressure on the cover?
impact (mine has mostly had an easy life)?  What?

In my case, I noticed under certain angles there was a crack in that
screen and it no longer works.  Meanwhile the cover glass is flawless
and the touchscreen still functions.

I'm wondering how many others have run into this.  Please post your
findings.

I'm also wondering how to get this fixed.  I have no clue how PC will
handle this, but at least they recently posted they have spare parts.

I've already emailed months ago about the obscured camera lens and
gotten no reply.  Anyone know of a good way to communicate with them?

Thanks,

PJS

Cosmo Communicator - Android / V19 Firmware Battery Life
« on: June 24, 2020, 11:09:39 am »
LOL guys...

Geez I thought it was my special bad luck!

Several weeks ago I noticed the exact same thing - a hairline crack in the CODI
LCD screen *under* the touchscreen glass, rendering it dead.

Mind you, the touchscreen is still working - putting me in airplane mode or
turning on the flashlight at all the "best" times.

This would all seem to indicate a structural problem in supporting the LCD
screen.  Mine too hasn't suffered any abuse, it's sole 1m fall on concrete
happened last November and the Cosmo never showed any issues.

Between the CODI and the foggy camera lens, the exterior of the Cosmo nearly
useless.

:/

At least I have company.

Thanks,

PJS

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Ethernet port
« on: June 10, 2020, 12:00:06 pm »
LOL,

A couple weeks ago, we had our cable internet go out and I thought maybe I
could use the same PC dongle to give my desktop a net connection from my
Cosmo...

I also tried everything I could find in droid to try engage the port and share
cell phone data through it.   No luck.  Ended up having fall back on the usual
wifi hotspot.

It would be good to get some guidance on this or even to know PC ever got
support for this done (who knows??).

Thanks,

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Mute/CoDi Issue
« on: June 10, 2020, 10:49:34 am »
Hi guys,

Also have had tons of problems with the CoDi acting on unintended
contacts...   Both with handheld calls (now solved by always using
a BT earpiece), just holding the Cosmo or even putting it in my
pocket.

I also reported this to PC with no response.   :/

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Cosmo Reboots during Long Phone Call
« on: June 10, 2020, 10:46:33 am »
Hi,

Quote from: jakfish
Twice this past week, about 20 minutes into a phone call, the screen will go black, the call will disconnect, and the Cosmo will reboot. (Both times, the phone was on speaker)

I consistently had this problem all along on the Gemini,
specifically during speakerphone calls when the Gem screen
went to sleep.  If I keep the phone awake, it didn't crash.

I reported this and firmware updates never fixed it.   :/

OTOH, it doesn't happen on my Cosmo, but I didn't install
the last firmware update.

I also play audio a lot on my Cosmo.  It plays hours of MP3
files on the SD card with no problems.  I also stream
online radio and I can't say I recall consistent crashes.

But then I've also tried many different audio apps, these
days I find VLC is the only one that can handle a large
library without crashes, etc.

Thanks,

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Storing a Gemini?
« on: February 10, 2020, 10:19:08 am »
Hi guys,

So I got my Cosmo a few months ago and the Gem has been put on the
bench to serve as my back-up phone.

I'd just turned the Gem off, so it hasn't been running the battery down,
but maybe that's not the best long term storage solution?

I'm also not an expert in lithium ion battery technology to know
what would be the best way to store my Gem with it's built-in, custom
irreplacable battery.

Anyone have any insights?  Maybe it would be better to plug it in?
Keep it powered off?  Power it on?   Let it fullly totaly discharge?
Cycle the battery?

FWIW, from a full charge and fully off, it appears it took well over a
month to discharge to 15% left (now).

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Firmware update
« on: February 09, 2020, 03:48:18 pm »
Hi all,

OK, I hope we can touch back on the topic of the thread...

It's February 9th and during the week I started getting re-offered the
firmware update with the FOTA tool:

Cosmo-9.0-Planet-01182020-V19
Size:  77.97 MB

It just claimed to download fine to my Cosmo (over wifi) and I'm debating
whether to try installing it.

On one hand, it obviously appears they got their "server configuration"
problem corrected.  On the other hand, folks here have talked about not
wanting to install this update.

Has anyone gotten this update this week and installed it?  Any reports?

Thanks!

The only bad thing for my situation is that a few years back T-Mobile had terrible signal strength around my house. I might try buying a pre-paid SIM from them and seeing if things have improved.

TMo has definately had a rocky history with signal strength, at least compared to
verizon in most places...    But it seems like they keep adding new signal and
new "low frequency" support that's supposed to help things...

So far, things have been going better with my Cosmo then reception was with
my Gem.

Good luck,

Cosmo Communicator - CoDi / Not another Cover Display Thread!
« on: December 28, 2019, 01:05:12 pm »
Hi all,

I've also been having tons of problems with the cover being active at just the
wrong times...

When you first shut an unlocked Cosmo, the display is fully active... So if
you immediately stuff it in your pocket (etc), faaaaaaaaar too often a simple
touch on the front of the Cosmo does things...  calls someone, turns things
on/off, etc.

Beyond that, if you open the Cosmo, the outside screen was supposed to go to
the PC logo and deactivate.  I'm now finding it does NOT. While on that screen,
you can still drag the top/sides of the screen in.  Of course, that just leads
to even more unintended problems.

It really sucks to find you've been in airplane mode for the last hour of work
or that you "butt dialed" your gf and she now wants to know where you've been.

Please PC, add these fixes/options:

 - TOTALLY disable outside screen sensing when the Cosmo is open.

 - Provide an option to have outside screen sensing only activate after a
toggle button or silver button press.

Thanks,

PJS

Have you updated your cover display firmware?   AFAIK, I'm up to date.

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Keyboard Backlighting Set to On-Demand?
« on: December 28, 2019, 01:00:43 pm »
I posted a request in their bug reporting form that I hope PC follows...

Why not have an option to have the keyboard backlighting automagically
turn on/off on the basis of ambient light?

As it is, it's a good challenge to deal with the Cosmo, trying to do the
two-handed key combo to turn on the keyboard backlight when you step outside
at night.

:/

We'll see.

Thx

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Odd Behavior Thread
« on: December 22, 2019, 01:01:49 pm »
OK, I've a kept a running log of issues I've observed...
Some of these have been reported, some may have been
fixed with the last update and I need to re-test, but here
goes...

Code: [Select]
- Cosmo randomly thinks it's being charged when not connected to anything.
Only rebooting will correct the state.

- Occasionally the Cosmo seems to do some sort of reset, loosing recent calls,
activities, running apps are shutdown, etc.

- Cosmo frequently "locks" itself while it is open and in the middle of me doing something.

- Bluetooth on the Cosmo (like the Gemini) is still a mess:
 - I try to stream media (ONLY) to my car stereo (Ford Sync)...   It can require 5-10
connection attempts from the stereo.  Most of the time, if I am quick enough in
telling the stereo to retry (after a fail), then it manages to get connected.  Does
this indicate the Cosmo's bluetooth stack is just too slow?

 - Turning on earpiece (for only calls/contacts) often kills separate playing media
  connection

- Cosmo Keyboard backlight:
 - The backlight should come on/off based on front ambient light levels
(if you step into total darkness, it's challenge to turn on the backlight).

 - The backlight should turn off/on with screen sleep
(it now stays on when screen sleeps).

- Cosmo outside screen:
 - The screen needs to have (at least an option for) a default non-interactive mode!
As it is, when you first close the Cosmo, the outside screen is active and
just putting it in your pocket often causes totally unintended calls, settings
changes, etc.   It really sucks to find your phone spent the last few hours in
airplane mode or you answered a call (you didn't want) just pulling phone
  from your pocket!

 - The "non-interactive" mode should only become interactive on an explicit
(configurable?) action - silver button press, rocker press or screen double- or
  triple-tap.

 - Is it possible the outside screen remains active when you open it?   Occasionally
it seems unintended actions when the Cosmo is opened.  Naturally, one can't
see what's happening there when you open the Cosmo.

 - The outside screen is frequently very slow to react, then it misinterprets swipes
as selections or just does not respond, etc

 - Outside LEDs (on toggle switch) can stop showing - requiring a total restart
(just reseting the outside display fixed nothing)

- Enhancement - When flashlight is on, make silver button turn off the flashlight?

- When answering a call with the Cosmo is in "silver button answers in speaker phone"
mode, it interferes w/ bluetooth calls.   You can hear the call ring in your earpiece,
but when the call connects, then it goes to speakerphone mode.  It seems like
this functionality should not supercede bluetooth earpiece use.

- Could there be an option to just answer to speaker phone mode if keyboard is open
(& no bluetooth device takes precedence)?

- Why do I frequently see "89" appear in things that recieve text input when I reopen
my Cosmo?   ....some sort of leftover debugging code?

- Need an option to simply set which is speaker/mic on exterior vs. the automatic
reorientation switching!  ...or have an option not to switch orientation during a call.
It's awfully difficult to carry on a call while holding the phone working on something
 - bend over and you essentially loose the call.

- Notes app:
 - backup to a local file does not appear to work.  You can select a path, then
no backup file is saved and all you can do is cancel out.
 - you should be able to set the path where the notes are stored by default.

- The Agenda app:
 - should have a setting whether it will involve google maps?
What if you do not want to be spied on??
