Linux Issues / Which Linux To Type Japanese ?
« on: April 12, 2006, 07:52:58 pm »
Hi Stu,

I'm using knoppix, but it doesn' thave this support. Indeed after a bit of research you can get Canna and kinput2.
How about your distro?

An interesting link about Japanese inputs:

Software / Various Questions About Zbedic

Hi

I'm interested also in putting images in a dictionary. That would be a great thing to do. Worth the effort? I don't know how difficult it would be, but worth the result yes for sure!

Hi,

I'm runing blackdown under X/Qt, installed with Meanie's cramfs, but no matter what I try to modify the font.properties, changes are not saved (tried vi, su, su-, tried to rename a font.properties file with another, tried to delete it... all remains the same!)

With the current font.properties, japanese is not displayed properly.

Any idea on what to do?

Linux Issues / Which Linux To Type Japanese ?
« on: April 11, 2006, 09:16:10 pm »
Hi

I'm working on a woodworking japanese-english dictionary. I started to edit it with winXP but would feel better to work with Linux. Which distro can allow me to type Japanese? I'm sure a Japanese distro will make it possible, but I'd feel rather unconfortable with a Japanese interface!

If that's possible, is it as straight forward and user convienient as with winXP?

Personal Java/Jeode/J2ME Personal Profile / Fonts For Blackdown
« on: March 13, 2006, 07:36:15 pm »
Thanks Meanie

I did try to copy font.properties.ja to font.properties but it wouldn't allow me to do so. I did it either with su or su - or from Tree!text. In the console for example, the reply to

cp font.properties.ja font.properties

is

cp: write: invalid argument

and if I try to rename font.properties to font.properties (using cp), I get:

cp: unable to open 'font.properties.': permission denied

Moreover, any modification done with vi or in Tree!text is not actually saved.

I did a chmod 777 but it doesn't help at all.
It seems I can not write anything where  my font properties files are: in /mnt/xqt/java/jre1.3.1/lib

Do you know why and what I could do?

Personal Java/Jeode/J2ME Personal Profile / Fonts For Blackdown
« on: March 13, 2006, 02:29:31 am »
Thanks to Meanie' s help I have now babbletower runing succesfully on blakdown j2se.1.3).

The only last issue I have is that the japanese and chinese are displayed with question marks. I think it is a problem with the font.property file, located in

mnt/xqt/java/jre1.3.1/lib.

Do you know what to set to get the japanese and chinese displayed all right?

In
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/guide/intl/fontprop.html

it is said that to get the display in a given language, you need to rename the font.propertie.language to font.propertie

So for example:

rename font.propertie.jp to  font.propertie

But then what will happen to the chinese?

After this I will be busy working on the dictionaries, so I doubt I will bother you anymore.

Thanks for any help

X/Qt / Where To Place A Script To Have Java Apps Run?
« on: March 13, 2006, 02:25:53 am »
Hi Meanie,

Done!

Works all right, the application launches well though it takes close to 2 mn (Xlauncher + java + babbletower)

Just one last issue that I thought would be better to post in the java section.

X/Qt / Where To Place A Script To Have Java Apps Run?
« on: March 03, 2006, 05:20:55 am »
Hi Meanie, and any one who could help me

I thought it would be better to start a new thread, but this is a follow-up on the fact I can't have babbletower running: it was originally in
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=17360

I have tried to write a script called babble.sh to start babbletower, similar to the ones used to run hdcrawler and hdpad.

But when I run
Code: [Select]
xlauncher babble.sh
as su - , it doesn't find babble.sh, which I placed in the same directory as hdcrawler.sh

Where should I place my babble.sh script?

Then I created a runbabble containing
Code: [Select]
#!/bin/sh
xlauncher babble

But had no success neither.

The reason why I'd like to have babbletower runing is that I'll soon go to Japan and would like to show to some fellow woodworkers the english-japanese woodworking dictionary I did.

Any help, hint, will be highly valued and appreciated.

X/Qt / Xqt Cramfs Won't Install!
« on: January 27, 2006, 02:45:33 am »
Sincerally thank you Meanie.

(Note for others who would like to try, your java installed with a cramfs may not be specifically in /mnt/java, it'll depends on where your whole xqt is installed. For me, java is in /mnt/xqt/java)

BUT... and I'm sorry about the but...

Look at what I get when I try to run babbletower:

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

How come there is this link error about libawt.so and libXt.so.6? The babbletower version is the same as on my PC, and it was running ok with jeode and Personal Profile!

Should I install also debian?

I was very happy to see your apps working (those included in the cramfs) and thought I would go on vacation (for chinese new year) with some material to work on. But nop...

Well if you read me and have a good hint on what to do, I'll be much gratefull.

Take care

Software / Babbletower Dictionary
« on: January 26, 2006, 11:08:35 pm »
I find it more flexible than zten and zbdic, but I have to say that I haven't investigated much those.
By flexible I mean you can change your fonts, dictionary format, select the encoding, change the window size...

It is nice also to be able to run it on your PC also. In the dictionary properties you can create a profile for your Z and one for your PC, and use exactly the same version on both platforms, just changing the option upon execution.

Now, I still can't have it run with blackdown! Would you have by chance installed the java.cramfs from Meanie?
Does any one have and what do you need to do to make it work? I installed it together with XQt with ./xqt-install but no java apps will start (java is not even a known command).

Thanks for any help on this!

X/Qt / Xqt Cramfs Won't Install!
« on: January 26, 2006, 09:37:33 pm »
Meanie, thank you. Everything works now except java!

Your HpPad and HpCrawler do appear in the menu when I press the Fn  key and tap the screen (in X) but won't start.
And in the console, the java command do not exist.

I didn't do anything after installing the cramfs with xqt-install: is there anything to do?

X/Qt / Xqt Cramfs Won't Install!
« on: January 25, 2006, 11:20:53 pm »
I have first tried to install the jumbo pack, java, mozilla and the apps all from cramfs on a 256CF card.

I've got the following when starting any apps (see file CFinstall.jpg).

I have cleaned up with xqt-cleanup and re-installed a couple of times but no success.
Java wouldn't work neither (well the babbletower application, ran this way:
java -classpath babbletower.jar Babbletower)

So I've just tried on my internal HD.
Created an XQt directory with:
- java.cramfs
- xqt-apps.cramfs
- xqt-cleanup
- xqt-gtk-jumbo.cramfs
- xqt-install.sh
- xqt-mozilla.cramfs

Just ran ./xqt-install.sh, but after a reboot, I didn't get anything (install on the CF worked better).
After install I got what is on hdd3install.jpg

It says there is something wrong with /etc/fstab which I show in fstab.jpg:

So I cleaned everything and got (see snapshot hdd3cleanup.jpg)

Anyone could help me? Meanie, do you have any clue why it is not working? I believe the cleanup was not perfect from the first attempts...

Hi there,

Have any one been able to run babbletower with blackdown JVM? I've installed java from Meanie's java.cramfs under XQT, but babbletower wouldn't start.

Meanie, have you tried?

X/Qt / X/qt Jumbo Cramfs
« on: January 19, 2006, 09:46:35 pm »
Firefox won't start!

I have installed the jumbo package as well as mozilla, all from cramfs.

They are on a CF card.

I installed them using ./xqt-install.sh as su

But when I click on the firefox icon in XQt I got:
Unable to find this application 'runfirefox'. Please confirm the Installed media.

So I've tried:
su -
#xlauncher firefox

It's doing something, saying:
starting X and firefox - please wait a moment

But then I got a gray screen with an x in the middle that disapears after few seconds. Then nothing. Tried to reboot and do the same, no success neither.
Besides, when I click on startX, nothing happens.

I didn't find any explanation and what I understood from  Meanie web site is that the mozilla.cramfs should just need to be installed with xqt-install... Is there anything else I should do, and why is X not starting?

By the way, I have got a message mentionning that my zaurus has a /home partition of 4MB and that I was strongly advised to run ... something but couldn't remember what!

Sorry for this noobie type of questions...

Any help on this problems?

edit: I have cleaned-up everything (using xqt-cleanup) and reinstalled
xqt-gtk-jumbo.cramfs
xqt-apps.cramfs
xqt-mozilla.cramfs

Eveything seemed to install correctly, but in the XQt pane, I have no more icon for firefox. I have some from the apps, but they won't run neither, I have the same message (example if I try gnumeric): "Unable to find this application 'rungnumeric'. Please confirm the Installed media.

Meanie, or any good soul, would you have any idea?

Here is the error message that I get when running the java-setup script on my C760 with Sharp ROM:

java applications configured and ready.
/home/root/usr/lib/jre/bin/armv5tel/native_threads/java: error while loading shared libraries: libBrokenLocale.so.1: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=109266\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
I got that in the past also, this is most probably because your links are not setup properly or your missing a library.
Go to www.users.on.net/_hluc/myZaurus/custom.html#java to check what you need, or just install the java.cramfs
