Sharp PC-Z1 NetWalker / Zaurus Never Die

In light of all the above comments, Puppeee Linux is a lightweight, fast and feature complete OS designed especially for the EeePC's.
Maybe with some tinkering by someone knowledgable enough, it could be ported to the NetWalker.
...
It should really fly on the NetWalker compared to Ubuntu.
from my understanding application operation is slow because of lack of graphics drivers ... you'd need these drivers for faster application operation (I agree they might start faster on a lighter OS though)

It works in standard (javascript) mode. For a quick check the "mobile" mode is much faster though.

Thanks ! that's very interesting !

Is it slow because opera is slow or maybe because you have a slow connection, from a gprs cellphone maybe ?

you are right, gmail doesn't support opera below and including version 7.54 ( I don't have any feedback with version 7.55), but it does run fine with opera 8.00beta on a PC. Hopefully someone (cf IBM Websphere ?) will port Opera 8.00 to the Zaurus when it's out ...

BTW if you want to use the powerfull search features of gmail from any web browser it's possible with gmail-lite :

http://pricejapan.com/PriceJapan_com.htm can import it for you from one of the store here : http://216.239.39.104/translate_c?hl=en&ie.../language_tools
(a bit expensive at 79000Yen though ... the C3000 is at around 61000Yen which makes around $700 shipped to the US)
