Battery Failure: I received my Gemini in May 2018, in November 2019 I noticed the battery had swelled and ordered a replacement from Planet Computers. It is now fourteen weeks later and I'm still waiting for my replacement battery. Does anyone know of an alternate supplier?

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Gemini won’t charge
« on: January 30, 2020, 04:52:07 pm »
E-mail to "Customer Care (Support)" <hello@planetcom.co.uk> is how I ordered mine. They will send you a PayPal invoice ($79.00) and once you've paid they promise to ship the replacement battery. I ordered mine on 2019-11-29 and received e-mail today saying "We are sorry for the delays with this. We've been very low on battery stock, but we have a few spares now. We will ship you one this week for sure. It will be traceable upon request early next week."

Gemini PDA - Android / New Gemini App: Airmail. Looks nice.

Most of the crashs i have encountered can be fixed by going into the settings menus, apps, airmail and then in hte permissions option, enabling access to contacts and k9mail remote

as far as i can tell it is not set to prompt for these permissions, does not set them up on install and exits when an error is encountered

if you dont do this youc can pu tthe app in a state where it always crashes on startup(ie 'display contacts' in the options), fixing this took me a but to work out without reinstalling it

apart form that i am fairly impressed, there are some ui features that could be fixed up but i like the on the fly font adjustment which really helps with my eyesight these days, if only ic ould work out how to select items without tap and hold i would be happy

I believe that the "s" key will select the current item in the message list. I've looked for a a list of keyboard shortcuts somewhere but haven't seen one yet. The other keys I've found so far are "x" force a sync with the server, and "d" (or the more obvious "Del" key) to delete a message. Once you've selected one or more messages what key will invoke the context menu that is available as press-and-hold on the touchscreen?

I get a repeating crash that requires an uninstall and reinstall to recover if I set Global Settings > Display > Message lists > Preview lines to "0".

Gemini PDA - Hardware / HDMI Limitations?
« on: July 09, 2018, 05:16:37 pm »
I've had better success using an HDMI->VGA adapter than trying to get an HDMI direct connection. You're not the only one having problems: see also https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=35104; I've also made some notes about my experience with HDMI at http://jdcard.com/LivingWithGemini.html.

Most important to me is the ability to have a usable computer always with me. The Gemini accomplishes that at a cost I could afford. It has its shortcomings and frustrations, some of which I've discussed at http://jdcard.com/LivingWithGemini.html, but overall I am pleased with what I got.

It'd be very convenient for me to plug my soon-to-come ^^ Gemini to a VGA display.
Someone tested whether a HDMI -> VGA adapter does work with Planet Computer mandatory Gemini -> HDMI display?

I've tested this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MS611LJ/ with mixed success. Older VGA devices that don't support 1080p or 1080i usually don't work. I bought the VGA adapter because a Toshiba TV I sometimes use doesn't respond to Planet's HDMI adapter but also has a VGA input; on that TV the VGA adapter gives good results (except for a 450 millisecond audio delay that I am working with the vendor to try to resolve).

Gemini PDA - Hardware / HDMI Supported Only On Some Devices?
« on: June 15, 2018, 11:09:31 am »
I did get a working connection to the Toshiba TV with the help of an HDMI->VGA adapter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MS611LJ/). Unfortunately the adapter introduces about 450 milliseconds of lag in the audio. Playing videos using the VLC app allows me to synch the audio and video, but other apps, like web browsers and office presentation apps, don't offer that level of control.

EDIT 2018-06-18: further testing shows the audio delay is not coming from the HDMI->VGA adapter, it appears to be the fault of the USB-C->HDMI adapter that Planet supplied.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / HDMI Supported Only On Some Devices?

What resolutions does the Tosh support?

Hmmm... 1920x1080 pixels @ 120 Hz.  We've connected various laptops and Chromebooks to that same HDMI port (and cable) successfully -- it is only the Gemini that won't work.

I've ordered an HDMI->VGA adapter, we'll see if that solves the problem.

Gemini PDA - Hardware / HDMI Supported Only On Some Devices?

I thought I had seen a comment somewhere about HDMI working to connect with some TVs but not with others, but searching here didn't find it.

I'm having exactly that issue: the HDMI adapter works fine with a four years old Samsung Smart TV, but an older Toshiba TV (model number 46XV640UZ, made in October 2009) just pretends the Gemini isn't there. The Toshiba works fine with a variety of other HDMI sources but just won't work with the Gemini.

Any suggestions to make this work? Is anyone else having similar problems?

Gemini PDA - Android / Use Android Tablet as 2nd Display?
« on: June 06, 2018, 08:03:28 pm »
I'm looking for a way to use my now-spare Kindle Fire HD6 as an extended display for my Gemini. A few hours searching through the F-Droid and Yalp Store apps didn't reveal anything that seemed suitable for this task. Perhaps you know of a way to do this?
