New products and alternatives / Is The Iphone 3g Your Next Zaurus?
« on: June 09, 2008, 06:23:24 pm »
Uhm... every time i'm thinking more and more about getting one. I have resisted for a year, but I can feel some weakness inside of me and I may fall into buying one.

Are you also tempted to get one and definitely get rid of your Zaurus?

New products and alternatives / Htc Tytn Ii
« on: November 23, 2007, 06:24:08 am »
I'm thinking about the new HTc TyTn II; I know, it's windows mobile 6, but it has all the hardware you can need: gsm/3G, wifi, gps, bt2.0, keyboard, touchscreen, sdhc, 128MB RAM, and there's plenty of software like putty, ....

Does anyone have experience on this unit?

I know its windows, I'm windows-free anywhere, but really until the android platform tuns on this beast, this machine is really a powerhorse.

Hi, I have a friend developing a new project and we have come up with a name which we'd like to receive feedback as how it sounds in different languages.

We'd appreciate if you can post here with your language and what/how it sounds like, and whether it means/resembles anything.

The name is 'chere'.

We are specially looking for feedback from north-European and Asian languages.

Many thanks.

General Discussion / New Linux Small Umpc From Intel
« on: April 16, 2007, 09:43:11 am »
It seems that Intel is developing the second wave of UMPC, and splitting those in two product lines:

- ultra small 5'', <1000USD, linux powered
- small 7'', ~1200USD, vista powered

News seem to appear later today, so stay tuned.

New products and alternatives / Nokia E61 = Light Zaurus
« on: February 06, 2007, 06:38:16 am »
Hi,

I've been lately using my new Nokia E61 very extensively, even replacing the zaurus as more convenient for many occasions.

Pros:
Great connectivity: gsm, 3G, wifi, bluetooth
Integrated useful apps: VoIP, email (pop & imap)
Interesting 3rd party apps: ssh client (v2 with dsa private key), vnc viewer (not tested)
Can be programmed: python shell, free c++ environment
Great usability: qwerty keyboard with back lit sensor, big screen
Web browsing: integrated web browser (upgrade to latest fw required) runs much faster that firefox on OZ and renders nicely, and is javascript ajax capable ! (it's based on konqueror's rendering and javascript engines, like safari)
Smaller that zaurus
Accepts mini-sd card
It's a phone!

Cons:
It's not a zaurus
Wifi range could be better
Connectivity configuration menus could be greatly improved
No touchscreen? (I don't think that's a con per-se, but ...)

It's like having a lightweight zaurus with all ever-needed connectivity options. I'm planning a trip for 4 days, and I'm taking the E61 instead of the Z !!

note: I don't have any relationship with nokia, nor any other manufacturer. But maybe some developers may jump to the E61, and port OZ

General Discussion / Zaurus At The 3gsm World Conference
« on: February 14, 2006, 10:27:16 am »
I have just been at the 3GSM World Conference in Barcelona, and:

1) sharp had a C3100 in a glass cabinet, next to other phones, but the only one without any label. When I asked the man next about that one, he (a Japanese guy) just told me it was a Japan-only model. They are really making no effort to promote it

2) I could see another C3000 and the Opera stand

3) Trolltech had another stand, but I could only see qtopia enabled phones there

but certainly windows mobile is getting everywhere.

I think that linux had its time, but we didn't take advantage of being first it the high advanced mobile phone arena. Now anyone is has windows or symbian, and there wasn't any mention about linux.

And, I love the new SonyEricsson comin !!. The M600, and the new walkman (the black one) is really slim, with 4GB flash and nice non-protuding buttons.

I forgot my camera at home, so I cannot post any pictures; maybe I'll go back tomorrow ...

Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Watching Live Tv From Mythtv - Possible?
« on: October 20, 2005, 08:45:28 am »
Since I have setup my mythtv box, I successfully use it to record and zaurus-encode my preferred tv programs.

But,

1) does anyone have mythfrontend for zaurus?

2) if 1) is not possible, is it possible to view live tv using mplayer on zaurus? how can I stream live tv with a mythtv box, so it can be viewed using just plain mplayer (at this stage, other mythfrontend capabilities like channel change should be needed)?

Thanks
