Software / Java Application Go Bible On Zaurus
« on: October 02, 2008, 11:31:25 am »
Could somebody describe step-by-step how I can install and run Go Bible Java application (http://gobible.jolon.org/) on my 3100?

I have installed one of the Java environments following Minnie's instructions, and can run other Java applications that were made for Zaurus.

Software / How Do I Make An Ipk?
« on: November 09, 2006, 05:20:15 pm »
You can call me a novice Linux user; however, it is not true because I have "used" Linux for about 5-6 years.  I guess I will remain a "user" forever.

With my level in mind, could somebody describe step-by-step how to make an ipk package from the files that I already have on my Zaurus?  For example, a dictionary for Zbedic or a font.

I understand that an ipk is just an archive with some control where to put files and a log what files and where have been installed.  I've searched and could not find an easy tutorial on how to make those ipks.

PocketPenguin / Words Of Encouragement And Some Questions
« on: August 14, 2006, 03:59:44 pm »
First, I think this is great that things are progressing beyond ideas and discussions.  Da Blitz and all of the involved, thank you so much for doing all this!

I cannot help you with any technical stuff but I am eagerly watching and am ready to spend the money to get the toy designed by your team.  I am sure that there are others like me.

I don't want to take any of your time but could somebody who knows explain to non-techies how we will be able to obtain a device designed by you.

I've read that you are only working on the motherboard, and that we will be able to order the separate components from different companies (reasons: no distribution, no body design issues for Da Blitz, and no FTC approvals).  This means, that somebody will have to design the body.  Does this mean that I will separately order the motherboard, screen and the body (anything else?) and then will have to assemble it myself?  How much expertise would be required for that?  Will soldering be required?

Alternatively, Da Blitz may sell the design to some company that we will be dealing with.  This company could be Sharp.  If this does not work out, could somebody here help put these devices together for some profit for the rest of us?

So, basically, I would like to know whether those of us who have not progressed beyond mere users will be able to enjoy this fantastic (from the discussions it appears to be so) device at some point in the future.  If any assembling is required, will mere mortals be able to put it all together?

If this is too early to talk about the end users, then I can wait.

General Discussion / Samsung Origami Pc Running Linux
« on: March 17, 2006, 11:49:07 am »
Excerpt from an article on umpcorigami.com:

"The most remarkable thing that we discovered was that the engineers were using Linux on the device to test it out before Microsoft sends them a copy of the actual operating system that will run when it ships. The distrobution, which remains unknown to us proudly displays Tux on a touch sensitive screen at a minimum resolution of 800 x 480. Due to the small size, it won't feature a physical keyboard, but a virtual keyboard. The programmers working nearby told us that since they did not have the actual Microsoft OS on it; they had to "hack up" a lightweight Linux application to do the job of the virtual keyboard."

Deals and Great Z Buys / Brando Screen Protectors
« on: November 24, 2005, 12:08:22 am »
The brando shop in Hong Kong has the promotion until December 20.  The screen protector shipped is only $10.

I have just ordered from them.  I have not ordered from them before so I can not vouch for their reliability but I have heard other people using them.

Software / Various Questions About Zbedic
« on: November 17, 2005, 02:59:00 pm »
I have spent the last couple of days reading all the documents about ZBedic format (the old and the new simplified), man page for mkbedic and the example dictionary file.  Here is what I did:

1. I compiled mkbedic.
2. I processed by mkbedic the example dic file (mkbedic example.dic dictionary.dic)
4. I installed the new dictionary on Zaurus into the directory where my other dictionaries are.
5. I used "search for dictionaries" function of ZBedic (alternatively, I wrote the path to the dictionary.dic into the zbedic conf file)

Nothing happened.  For some reason, ZBedic could not recognize the resulting file.  I know I didn't compress the new dic but I understand that it is not necessary.  Then, just in case I processed the dictionary.dic (the file resulting from mkbedic) with xerox (although I understand that mkbedic is a replacement for xerox), this did not work either.

Could somebody walk me through the process and explain what I did wrong?  Please either use the example.dic or a very simple dic file, like:

                   id= Dictionary

                   Word
                   {s}{ss}meaning{ss/}{s}

Give me examples, please.

Thank in advance

Software / Zbedic Deserves Your Support!
« on: November 14, 2005, 08:26:06 pm »
Ladies and Gentlemen:

We all love Zaurii (unless you have come to this forum by mistake).  We have demonstrated it by spending money and time on a platform that is not even supported by its manufacturer outside of Japan.  What makes Zaurus useable by people like me who cannot write our own programs are those volunteers who develop programs for all of us to enjoy.  For this, I want to thank you.

One of the programs that make Zaurus rock is ZBedic (http://bedic.sourceforge.net/).  It allows us to use free translation dictionaries as well as have a personal encyclopedia in our pockets (Wickipedia).

This program was originally developed by Latchesar Ionkov.  Over time Latchesar moved on to pursue other endeavors.  Rafal Mantiuk (rafm on this forum) was kind enough to revive the project, fix bugs, provide support for VGA models and add new features.  Thank you, Rafal!  In order to encourage Rafal to continue to spend his time on this project we need to show Rafal that ZBedic is important.  We can do it by writing in this thread “thank you” but more importantly we can support him with our money.  Please donate to this project.  It is really easy to do as I have just tried it out myself.  Just go to http://bedic.sourceforge.net/fddd.html and go from there.  Rafal is responsive to concerns of ZBedic users and has demonstrated that he is a good developer and can be trusted.

Please note that I am in no way affiliated with Rafal and have no personal interest in this other than seeing ZBedic being improved and maintained for existing Zaurus models and the models to come.

With kind regards,

kurochka

Software / Frozen Bubbles
« on: November 10, 2005, 02:00:01 pm »
I see that the Nokia 770/Maemo folks have ported the Frozen Bubbles game to that platform.  http://fb-maemo.blogspot.com/

Has anybody seen it on Z? I searched and couldn't find it.  Anybody who could please port it?  Support for VGA would be greatly appreciated.

Alternatively, have somebody seen the Froot game with support for VGA screen?

General Discussion / Any Z's With Sdio?
« on: November 07, 2005, 02:18:13 pm »
There is a guy selling an SDIO WiFi card on ebay.com (look for auction number
5825239786).  He says that it will work on a Zaurus PDAs that have an SDIO.  As far as I know there is no SDIO driver for any of the Z's.  What is this guy talking about?  I only heard about one card that has SDIO stack for Z and even that it is buggy.

For Sale / Wanted / Sold: Selling My C3000 On Ebay
« on: November 01, 2005, 03:12:03 pm »
No, I am not leaving ZZ (Zaurus Zone).  I just want to upgrade to C3100 and need to sell this one.  Unlike some folks here at oesf, I can't afford to keep every single model of Z.  Originally, I had 5600, which was sold to buy C3000.  Now this.  Unless somebody tells me that a new model is coming out soon, I am going for C3100.

Please, see my listing on ebay.com.  Enter 5825625528 into the search dialog.  I am shipping overseas but in that case I highly recommend insurance (unless you are afraid of local taxes).  I have recently sold a Simpad to a guy in Spain.  It arrived unharmed but you never know.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Stowaway Keabord To Usb?
« on: July 15, 2005, 03:16:57 pm »
On this picture (from ebay), I noticed that Targus Stowaway Keyboard is connected to SL 6000 through some sort of a cable (serial to USB?). Am I mistaken? If not, where do you get this cable? I have this (or similar) keyboard that I used with my old Visor and it is all dusty now.  All help is appreciated.  I presume no drivers are needed.

C1000/3x00 Hardware / Usb Adaptor

I just ordered this for my Z (3000).  Do you think it will work as a USB host adaptor?  The price is $3.95 (+ $4.5 for shipping).  I will let you know if it works.
